The Text God: Text and You Shall Receive ... (An Accidentally in Love Story Book 2) Kindle Edition
Text and you shall receive.
Jen Flanders here. Just another starving artist in New York City. I walk dogs for money, practice yoga for sanity, and hit up my friends at a local bakery to supplement my diet. Unfortunately, rent is due and I'm running out of cash.
After begging the universe for a sign that help is on the way, my phone pings with an incoming text.
GOD: You can do it; I believe in you!
Wait?! GOD is texting me?
I know it sounds crazy, but I'm so desperate, I'm willing to believe just about anything right now. So, I ask him for help.
On the first day of texting, he gets me a job that will keep me afloat. On the second day, he hooks me up with a killer wardrobe. And on the third, he agrees to meet me at a pub (in Hell's Kitchen, of all places), to discuss my future.
Only, it turns out GOD isn't a deity, but a divinely handsome lawyer named Gabriel Oliver Daily, who thinks he's been helping out his friend's little sister the entire time. He's the man of my dreams, but it's never going to happen between us because:
a) I'm a whack-a-doodle who thinks she's been texting the Lord himself, and, I don't know how to explain that to him.
b) He's got a serious girlfriend, and they're perfect for each other.
Although, I'm learning things aren't always as they appear.

Sneak Peek...
Bending over in Downward Dog, I release the whoosh of breath I’ve been holding for what feels like the last three days. Then I have a stern talk with myself. It goes like this:
Jennifer Flanders, you’re an artist. You are a highly evolved soul who is temporarily off track. While dog walking isn’t your dream job and picking up copious amounts of poop is not fulfilling in and of itself, you’re lucky to have a job. And with such cute furry love nuggets who worship you unconditionally. With the exception of Brutus, of course, who loves nobody.
Then, as I do, I answer myself.
I’m as tense as the rubber bands that hold a tennis ball together. I gradually retreat out of my current yoga pose and move into a headstand. As the blood rushes to my frontal lobe, I pray to the Universe for peace, strength, creativity, and either more clients or a better-paying survival job. I can’t even afford new art supplies right now, and I’ve been told by every gallery that I’ve walked into that they don’t want me coming back until I have something new to show them.
For some reason my mind drifts off to the morning of Gram’s funeral. I remember Pops telling me that I need to ask for miracles and not to turn away from them when they happen. “Dear God, send me a sign,” I plead. “Just a little something to give me the strength to carry on.”
Not a minute later, maybe not even thirty seconds later, my phone pings. Gently tucking and rolling out of my headstand, I strike a quick warrior pose and namaste my goldfish Frank before checking to see who texted.
The yoga gods would probably prefer all electronics be banned during times of spiritual mind/body goings-on, but they aren’t worried about eviction like I am.
When I see who the text is from, I have to stop and rub my eyes before reading it again. Same result. I read:
GOD: Word on the street is you need a little career guidance. Just wanted to let you know I’m here for you.
What the … God is texting me? Is this some new Verizon service? Because if it is, what in the heck am I paying for it?

Review
"The Text God by Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers is arguably one of the most humorous books I've read. It was a perfect cross between a chick lit and comedic storyline. I laughed so much from the beginning until the end. However, as much as this novel was bathed in humor, it still passed a powerful message to people of faith that there's a God that watches, sees, hears, and does. Hence, we should keep the faith. Whitney and Melanie brought their A-game to this book. And it was perfect!" -- Readers Favorite, 5 stars
"If you are looking for a feel-good romance with a lot of heart, one-click this baby. You won't be disappointed." --USA Today Bestselling Author, Jennifer Peel
"I'm going to start texting a bunch of random numbers in hopes of starring in my own story in this series ... This was such a funny and heartfelt read, I can't wait for the next book!" --USA Today Bestselling author, Delancey Stewart
"I'm pretty sure the whole world could use a big laugh right now. I suggest starting with this book. SO fun and funny, it put a big smile on my face that's still there!"-- Bestselling author, Annabelle Costa

About the authors
USA Today Bestselling author Whitney Dineen is a rock star in her own head. While delusional about her singing abilities, there’s been a plethora of validation that she’s a fairly decent author (AMAZING!!!). After winning many writing awards and selling nearly a kabillion books (math may not be her forte, either), she’s decided to let the voices in her head say whatever they want (sorry, Mom). She also won a fourth-place ribbon in a fifth-grade swim meet in backstroke. So, there’s that.
Whitney loves to play with her kids (a.k.a. dazzle them with her amazing flossing abilities), bake stuff, eat stuff, and write books for people who "get" her. She thinks french fries are the perfect food and Mrs. Roper is her spirit animal.

Melanie Summers is a multi-award-winning, Amazon best-selling author of romantic comedies and women’s fiction. She’s written over thirty books for people who have 'had it up to here' with the real world and need to laugh, feel good, and sigh happily. When she’s not writing or reading, she's usually out for a walk with her two adorable dogs, hanging out on the beach with her husband and their three teenagers, or curled up on the couch for family movie night. Melanie resides on Vancouver Island, Canada where her life goal is to become one of those fabulous people who take daily ice baths in the ocean. So far, she can get in up to her ankles, which is not awful, thank you very much.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2025Story line has cute explanation as to why God would be texting Jen. Jen's conversations that she had in her head are comical. I feel like I would make some of the same mistakes on this journey, but I would have approached the elephant in the room a little earlier once I found out who God really was. I would have had it out with the naked girlfriend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2022This book hooked me from the beginning. It was very hilarious, and the protagonist was easy to relate to and love. The storytelling from two perspectives was unique. But one thing I didn’t love about the book was that the supporting characters were not morally wholesome, and also there were a few cussing. That was the reason for the 4-star review.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021This book is so funny, swoony, sweet, heart melting, full of love and such a fun read! Love it from beginning til the end. The first hilarious text between "GOD" and Jen piqued my interest! Does God text? While thinking about her life and wishing for some kind of sign while walking dogs Jenny receives an unexpected first text from GOD. Jenny is such a fun cheeky character you'll fall in love with her innocence, sweetness and perseverance. God/Gabe/Bryne is a dream guy...he takes care of others even strangers. Mary...GODS/ Bryne's mother is also a charmer and quirky character that may or may not have been the one who brought them together.
As things slowly being revealed things get more and more interesting. It's funny how one event/situation can affect many things in a person's life. It's like a domino effect. Spark developed the first time GOD met Jen and vice versa and this developed more so through out the story. One major event/discoveries (another sign) encouraged the love between Gabe and Jen. Their love adventure was an interesting and fun story. This is one book that was hard to put down. This is a must reads.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2021This was truly a gem of a novel. It had a really poignant and beautiful story woven around the optimism of Jen. The mistaken texting between Jen and Gabe stretched the limits of believability until you realized the kind of soul Jen had.
The family interactions with Gabe and his family were laugh out loud funny at times. Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers don’t go for the cheap laughs. They also don’t worry about building up to that funny moment, because that’s not how it works in real life, with real people. That’s why reader’s may be caught off guard and end up spitting water on their kindles - I was.
The romance was so sweet and the writing drew the picture of the excitement and the heartache of navigating a new love. Wonderful book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2021I want to start by saying that I really did enjoy parts of this book. There were some parts that were funny and it was a quick, light read.
That being said, I agree with many other reviews that said they found it hard to believe that the main character really did believe she was talking to God for so long. I'm fine with her having a faith, but the way she acted didn't make sense for me. It just seemed like it took her too long to figure out what was going on, or that there was something other than her initial assumption in play here. She just kept jumping to conclusions throughout this book and it got frustrating.
I think some readers may enjoy this book, but I felt like it took the premise of the story a little too far. I might try another book by these authors again, but this book didn't leave me wanting to rush out to read the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2021Enjoyed the quirky “fruit loopy” main character who was also adorable. Her handsome leading man was a pleasure to read too. Humorous build up to just a kiss or two. Clean read for a YA book too.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2021I loved this book. It’s fun, sweet and heartwarming. I loved the characters, especially Mr. and Mrs. Daly. Gabe’s parents are wonderful.
Jen is a bit naive but such a lovely person with a big heart. She’s the type of person that tries to find the positive in everything, even the worst of situations.
Gabe is a good businessman. He is stubborn but also very kind hearted.
A serendipitous mix up brings these two together at a pivotal time in both their lives.
I loved the chemistry between the two. I also adored the relationship between Jen and Mr. and Mrs. Daly.
It was wonderful seeing Jen and Gabe grow individually and together.
If you are looking for something light hearted and fun to read I would recommend giving their story a try.
I look forward to to reading the next book in this series.

What a story. So much fun, so much innocence and such a beautiful romantic tale. It reinforced my own belief in God and what can be accomplished through honesty and prayer. Instead of rushing in to buy another book, I'm going to read this one again!!
