Marry a man I barely know to save my family from ruin.
It might’ve been simple, if my betrothed were anybody else.

On our wedding day, my husband-to-be arrived at the courthouse like a black cloud rolling over Manhattan. Walt didn’t crack smiles or pepper in pleasantries as we exchanged hollow vows in front of the judge.

His disdain for me was so palpable I assumed we’d walk out of that ceremony and resume our regularly scheduled programming. But then fate was like,
Hold my beer. I got this.

In desperate need of help and with nowhere else to turn, I had no choice but to ignore a crucial rule in our contract:
I shall only contact Mr. Jennings II in case of emergency. But hey, what’s a little fine print between husband and wife?

Turns out, Walt’s a stickler for legalese—I think it might be his love language. Oh, and his attitude at the courthouse wasn’t a put-on. My so-called husband is a jerk. He takes what he wants without giving any consideration to other people—specifically ME, his blushing, contractually-obligated bride!

I knew life with Walt would be no honeymoon, but a marriage of any sort should still come with a few standard guarantees:

To have and to hold.
For richer or poorer.
In sickness and in health.

But after experiencing Walt’s version of wedded bliss, I say let’s forget about all that lovey-dovey crap and just take me straight to
death do us part.

The RS Grey Rom-Com I Know & Love
Elizabeth has just graduated from college and is setting up to pursue her career as an artist when she gets a call from her mother that changes everything. Suddenly Elizabeth is forced to marry Walt to save her family from losing everything. A marriage that starts as a business deal quickly turns more complicated when the story is sent to the press. Elizabeth must navigate changes in her life with her family, her career, and he new husband. On top of all of that, where does the line between a fake marriage and real feelings end? This was an immediate “YES” from me! I have loved RS Grey books for years now. I started with Scoring Wilder, and since then, I have made my way through most of her backlist and many new releases. Recently there have been a few misses for me, but this one really knocked it out of the park. I LOVED Elizabeth as a character. She was from a wealthy family with an extreme spending problem, but her art kept her grounded, and she wanted to pursue it no matter the costs. Walt started this book as one of the coldest, buttoned-up businessmen I have read about. It was so sweet to get to know him more throughout the story and see glimpses of his personality shine through. I also really enjoyed reading about the art they both admired and the art Elizabeth created. RS Grey is an author who I can always count on to write a story in a way that draws me in and makes me feel like I am right there in the room with the characters. Her descriptions are so captivating, and I really just enjoy reading her books from start to finish. It is a friendly reminder of why I love picking up a romance and reading. As always, I will also give a shout-out to some great side characters. Matthew, Walt’s brother, was such a fun addition to the story and really made me want to have a friend like Matthew in my life. He pushed the story along and had me laughing multiple times. Overall, this is a fun romantic comedy. It is a pretty lighthearted read with a very broody hero and a heroine trying to make the best of a challenging situation. Definitely pick it up!! 5/5 Stars

At first, the plot line of a semi-arranged marriage of convenience is a stretch and made me think (and groan) that I was going to read something that was basically a Regency novel made to fit modern times. Although the similarities are there, this book kept me entertained.

I enjoyed the fact that swear words weren’t used as a major source of communication. The physical romantic scenes were tasteful, kept to a minimum and not as graphic to the point of becoming boring as other ebooks I’ve read lately.

My only critique is that the author barely touches on the heroine’s family including the fact that she had 8 siblings until the end of the book when explaining why the character was the way she was. It also doesn’t address if she had future success with her art or only if it was a one time deal.

But all in all this book is an enjoyable read.

    Additional Note:
I must add that another critique of this book mentioned and praised another author and book covering the same plot theme of marriage of convenience. Curious about it, I read that book and my reaction? I couldn’t wait for it to end since it seemed to go on and on. The epilogue was a joke since it was just a continuation of the previous chapter. The only difference was that book had a POV from the male protagonist.

Speaking of which, quite frankly, I’m tired of the trend with authors having the chapter heading with the name of the character who is ‘speaking’ in that chapter. Why is the book’s chapter limited to only one character’s POV per chapter instead of having any of the characters ‘speak’ in the same chapter with the reader aware of who is ‘speaking/thinking’? I’m aware that it helps with the audio recordings but still that hasn’t stopped other well known books with multiple POVs in a chapter being recorded.

I’ve always been a fan of R.S. Grey ever since I came across her books in Audible. The narrators are PERFECT for the books. Grey’s sense of humor is natural and cheeky. She can turn a serious conversation into a snort-laugh with just a couple lines between the two main characters 😂

Elizabeth and Walt’s book is definitely one I’d purchase. They’re both insecure in their own way, but put them in awkward situations and you’ll discover just how warm and cute they really are. They’re 10 years apart, but Grey doesn’t constantly remind me of that. There’s a part in the book where Walt says, “April’s young.” And Elizabeth counters, “I’m young.” To which he looks her over and claims she’s a different kind of young. 😂 I personally thought that was funny.

I do like how Grey didn’t give Elizabeth a nickname throughout the book. It’s refreshing. Everyone addresses her as her full name. Walter Jennings II is a mouthful, as Elizabeth once thought 😂 I also like how both are bent on communication. Although there’s one part where Elizabeth lets her anxiety get the best the of her and thus results in a lack of communication.

It may seem that Elizabeth and Walt are usually hot and cold with each other, so you might get confused with their back-and-forth attitudes, but everything works out. I wouldn’t exactly say this is a die hard enemies-to-lovers book, just very awkward individuals trying to get used to something they didn’t want at first. I didn’t feel the “hate” between them, just wariness and politeness.

What I want to know is...what happened with Matthew?! He is the best comic relief in the book! I’m sad that he didn’t have any scenes towards the end, but maybe he’ll get his own book.

Overall, this book is great and will make you snicker and roll your eyes. Grey seemed to really appreciate the career of an artist as she describes Elizabeth’s tools, hardships, and techniques. She even gives a little bit of insight into Walt’s medical device company from meetings with foreign reps for parts supply to specific products being made like a new type of insulin pump. Great job, Grey! 💜

    Really liked this book.
I loved the characters, their story and all the small things inbetween. Found myself googling art & co. There was nothing overly dramatic or any chringe worthy scenes. Just a good and entertaining story that developed naturally which I read in one sitting.
Reminded me a bit of "the fortunate ones" one of my favorite rs grey books.

From the get go this was one I could NOT put down! This was a story that sank its claws into my heart and I kept thinking to myself, just one more chapter. Sleep was not possible until I’d finished this one!

As one of my favourite authors R.S. Grey didn’t disappoint and this is probably now one of my favourite books that I’ll definitely be going back to!

    Arranged marriage? Check
    Sharing a house? Check
    Mouth watering sexual tension? Check
And with insane amounts of chemistry this duo left me on the edge of my seat wondering when they were going to put me out of my misery.

Squeals of joy and laughter followed me throughout and I even had moments of heartache, but as always it was super worth it! The spicy scenes had me holding my breath and loving every moment!

Overall perfect read and I can’t wait to devour more of R.S. Grey’s works!

I am a fan of this authors work and once again she did not disappoint.

If you are looking for something that has family obligations, arranged marriage, extra material affair, drama, chemistry, sexy man in a suit, and love you have found it.

This book had me hooked from the beginning to the point I read this book in one afternoon. I know I was caught yelling at both Walt and Elizabeth when Camilla was on the scene and again when Oliver was around.

I cannot wait to find out where this author will take us next.
