The Brides of the Rising Sun (The Goddesses of the World) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

Swayed by the stronghanded military regime of the Shogun, Japan left feudalism much later than most European powers. A nation dominated by a rigid samurai code of honor and power-hungry warlords, Japan's transition to modernization, would not be achieved without bloodshed imbued with stoicism, resilience, bravery, deception, treason, and lots of romance.

The most rapturous insight of this historical period, dubbed
Bakumatsu, that dragged from 1853 to 1868, is the presence of a Westerner who was instrumental in the political machinations that brought down the shogunate rule and reinstated the emperor to the supreme office, ushering the country into a sort of capitalism.

Thomas Blake Glover, a Scotsman from Aberdeen, had neither advanced academic qualification, nor professional training. Placed in an unseemly place, yet during a crucial period, he was armed with vision, a sharp nose for business and a staunch determination.

Working with the inequalities rather than fighting them, Glover understood cultural differences could survive on reciprocal respect and concessions; forbearance applied when values conflicted.

Living through the twists and turns of Japan's mythic culture, pulling the strings of his hard-harnessed power, Glover forever changed the course of the country of the Rising Sun’s history...

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I am an author specializing in Historical Fiction, and my family background traces back to the Land of the Rising Sun. My mother used to share with us many stories of her samurai ancestors. For the past two decades, I have resided in the United Kingdom, leveraging my background in Economics to work in finance and IT. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to live in diverse countries, such as: the UK, Switzerland, Japan, and Brazil. This multicultural experience has enriched my understanding of various customs and cultures, shaping me into a more well-rounded individual. I firmly believe that ignorance is the root cause of prejudice, and I hold great reverence for tradition as it embodies a people's history and heritage. Each nation boasts a captivating past, and every culture carries a distinctive legacy deserving of respect.

History has always captivated me, as evidenced by my overflowing bookshelves, kindle, and audible folders filled with historical books and fiction novels. I simply cannot get enough of them. Additionally, I am an avid traveler, often selecting my destinations based on the fascinating historical books I have devoured.

Writing has been a lifelong passion of mine, beginning in childhood and persisting into adulthood. After numerous attempts and refining my narratives, I finally felt confident enough to share my work with others, leading me to publish my writings. Reading and writing have always served as a solace during challenging times, and while some may view it as escapism, I firmly believe that reading or writing can never become a detrimental addiction.

"The Goddesses of Japan" is a book I wrote in honor of my late father, Youzi. When I was just seven years old, he would regale me with tales of Creation and Ancient Japan at bedtime, sparking my fascination with these stories. I made it my mission to one day bring these narratives to a wider audience through my writing.

I sincerely hope that my readers derive as much pleasure from reading my books as I derive from writing them. Every month, I send out a newsletter to my readers, which serves as a blog of sorts. Each newsletter features a brief article on an intriguing topic, book recommendations, and links to websites where you can download free ebooks or purchase them at discounted prices.

Wow! What a wonderful, entertaining book. Set in the time period when Japan was moving from a feudal society to a more modern existence. Historically accurate, it follows the Scotsman Thomas Blake Glover, as he wheels and deals with the samurai and ruling daimyos.

I really enjoyed this book. I would love to give it a 4.5 rating. I received this novel gratis, with no obligation than to post an honest review. I heartily recommend it.

Kazuko Nishimure has a way of being historical times to life. Instead of dull facts of what had happened before, a person is instead transported in the midst of the monumental events taking place in Japan.

As someone with a busy lifestyle and little time to spare, I found myself unable to put the book down. I love how the book has been able to combine Japanese history and culture with a story of romance and adventure. I assure you that the book will provide an experience that is nothing less then exciting.
