The Disgraced Bride: A Regency Romance (The Spinsters Guild Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 1,499 ratings

Miss Emma Bavidge can barely make her way through society without someone whispering about her.

Her father’s disgrace has ruined her reputation and left her struggling in society. Her one hope is Lady Emily Smithton, who leads ‘The Spinsters Guild’ and has promised to help. When questioned, however, Emma cannot pretend that she is immune to the charms of one gentleman in particular – Viscount Morton.

Viscount Nathaniel Morton cannot help but feel sorry for Miss Bavidge. Knowing her father as well as he does, he is well aware that her reputation bears no stain other than that of her father’s disgrace. He wishes to help her in some way, wanting to encourage her back into society’s good graces, but does not quite know how to go about it.

One thing is for certain – he cannot allow her to know the truth about the part he played in bringing about her father’s fall from grace, not even if he begins to find his heart yearning for no one but her! Can Emma and Nathaniel find love and happiness despite the secrets between them?

This book is the second book of a series called The Spinsters Guild, a group of unusual ladies who are almost “on the shelf”. Can Lady Emily help them find their perfect match?

Review

Excerpts from Amazon reviewers:I loved this well written, intriguing book about the aristocratic and biased ton society of the Regency Era and the two young people trapped in its machinations.

The characters of this book are well written and I loved the story line on this one. I'd highly recommend.

The Spinsters Guild (book 2)is Miss Emma Bavidge's story... and what a story it is. A clean Regency Romancewith a lot of suspense. Will good triumph once again? I really liked thisstory.

I really wanted to reach into this book a few times and sit the lead characters down to get things straight. The further you go in the book, the higher the emotions, and there is one character dead set on keeping the two apart and willing to go to any shocking, malicious lengths to do it. Another winner from the author, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I enjoyed The Disgraced Bride so much that my next book to read will be A New Beginning, the first book in Rose & The Spinsters Guild series. The Disgraced Bride is great as a standalone; it's just that now I want to see the story from the beginning!

I am loving this new series already! The secrets and twists and turns that keep you reading till you find out what is going to be next and then you keep reading yet more!

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

The Disgraced Bride by Rose Pearson, book 2 in her Spinsters Guild series, is a delightful sweet Regency romance. It is the perfect book for a cozy interlude on a rainy day. A cup of tea and a blanket on the couch in front of a nice fire in the fireplace completes the picture of how this book made me feel. It is an easy read, entertaining, with a happily ever after that to me are the makings of a magical escape to a different place and time.
I especially like how Rose takes a not so nice fact about the Regency time period and weaves a tale where the "weaker sex" comes out on top. The men in the story become better people because of the women's strength of character. And the "beau monde" are shamed for being small-minded as well as petty. Oh if only that was true, how might the struggle for women's rights changed sooner?!
Well worth your time to cozy up to this wonderful novel. Don't forget the tea and scones!

The Disgraced Bride by Rose Pearson, book 2 in her Spinsters Guild series. Emma’s father attempt at blackmail is uncovered and now Emma finds herself being gossiped about as she attends the social gatherings to find a husband. Viscount Nathaniel Morton feels sorry for Emma and wants to help without having his involvement in her father’s downfall being revealed. It is his guilt that initially has him interacting with Emma but as times goes by he starts to like her.

This story was a perfect example of what happens when the truth is hidden and secrets have the potential to destroy happiness. This is an enjoyable read if you like clean romantic stories with wonderful characters.

I enjoy both steamy and clean romances and read a variety of authors that write both genres. If you are looking for a clean, sweet, historical romance you should read Rose Pearson’s books. She has a wide variety of different venues written sweetly, are enjoyable and will not have steamy scenes.

I don't think I have ever read any of Rose's work before but I really enjoyed this one. Emma Bavidge has been disgraced because of her father trying to blackmail a peer. Now her father is sending her to another season. She only had this one chance. She asks a woman who had been disgraced but is doing well to help her. She needed help to navigate the men trying to take advantage of her. Lord Nathaniel Morton is the cause of Emma's father being disgraced. He tries to help her but thing don't go the way he hoped. They have quite a journey to find their happy ever after. I know you will love it.

4.75 stars, rounded up - This story held my attention pretty well. There were only a couple places I chose to skim through, hence my rating. With a clean plot and characters I found myself invested in, the book was enjoyable. If you enjoy that kind of story, why not give this one a try?

Viscount Nathaniel Morton meets Emma Bavidge for the first time at a ball and he is taken with her calm, serious demeanor. He also knew this was not her first season because of her father's involvement in a blackmail plot against a friend but the shame of it has blackened Emma's reputation, not just her father's. But her father wishes for Emma to try and make an advantageous match so that she has some happiness in her life...so he sends her to London with his sister, a very unenthusiastic chaperone because she does not want any part of the shame. Thus, Emma is left to her own devices in the search for a good match with a kind gentleman. In the course of this tale, Emma and Nathaniel slowly find a liking for one another, but how can Nathaniel admit to Emma how he became involved in her father's ruination? You will have to read this delightful story yourself to find out what happens.

This touching Regency romance brought me an afternoon of reading pleasure with complex characters and a great story that kept me totally involved in all that was happening from beginning to end. I loved the dynamic and undeniable chemistry between Miss Emma Bavidge whose father's disgrace has ruined her reputation and Viscount Nathaniel Morton who feels responsible for her struggle in society. This is the second book in the Spinster Guild series and I look forward to see what happens next with Lady Emily Smithton and the ladies she agrees to help. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

L'ho trovato prolisso.

However, I think she should have enough courage to stand up to the bullies, instead of seeking help. Still I loved it 👍

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow Read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 30, 2019
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did the first in the series. Although the book was well written, I felt the plot to be a little thin, and Emma Bavidge and Lord Nathaniel Morton were weak. The continual indecision of Lord Morton as to whether or not he should tell Miss Bavidge about his part in her father's downfall was wearing, in the end I just wished he'd get on with it. The 'baddie' Lord Rochester was a bit pathetic as well. I also felt that Lady Smithton in this book was using Lord Havisham, and he appeared to becoming weak. All in all I didn't enjoy this book, I look forward to reading the next in the series as Rose Pearson is one of my proffered authors.
