He waves for the bartender while I internally scold myself for being so pathetic. So what if the hot guy with the muscles in all the right places is flirting with me?

I'm Chiara Bianchi. I don't cower to any man. They cower to me.

But as I pivot my head slightly, I find those captivating eyes already pinning mine, paralyzing me, and every breath of mine seizes in my chest, burning through my lungs.

His gaze drops to my lips, his eyes telling me just what he wants to do with them.
My stomach bottoms out, the knots already there tightening. His thick fingers drag over the bar, nearing mine as he raises his other hand to get the bartender's attention.

"What can I get ya?" Tina asks, breaking our intense lust-filled connection.

"Martini for her. Whiskey neat for me."

"Who told you I wanted a martini?" I ask firmly as Tina strolls away.

He rotates in the swivel chair, quirking up a brow. "Was I wrong?"

"No," I grumble, threading my fingers through my hair. "But that's not the point. Ask next time."
Who does he think he is, ordering for me like he knows me or something? I mean, it is one of my favorite drinks, but that's not the point.

"There's going to be a next time?"

"I didn't mean..."

The tantalizing way his gaze fills mine with want has me stammering. Those eyes glow like skin warmed by the sun, radiating down my body in waves of heat.

There's a touch of a smile on his face, a genuine one. "Uh-uh, you can't take it back now."
I breathe out an unintentional snicker.

"Wow, she finally laughs," he says.

"Barely." I roll my eyes.

He angles his head to the left. "It's a start."

The drinks arrive and I quickly pick mine up, taking sip after sip, needing the lull of alcohol.
He doesn't touch his drink yet, watching me enjoy mine. A quiet moment passes as he stares deep into my eyes like he's trying to figure out a Rubik's Cube.

It makes my heart beat faster.

"Would you stop looking at me like that?" I say. "It's kind of creepy."
And also a little hot. No, scratch that lie. A lot hot.

"I apologize. I'm only trying to figure out how someone could be this beautiful."

I roll my eyes, shaking my head. "What's your name, Casanova?"

"Brian Smith. What's yours?"

"Chiara."

"No last name?"

"Nope. Just Chiara." I don't know if he's heard of my father, but I think it's better if I don't give him that part of me. I haven't enjoyed a conversation with a man in too long, and I don't want it to stop just yet.

My dad's reputation has done a number on this city. Sometimes I wish I could change my name, but I'm stuck with the one I have.

He reaches for my hand, the one on my lap. Picking it up, he kisses the top of it, gazing at me from below a full set of dark brows.

"Nice to meet you," he says, lifting his mouth away. "I have a feeling we'll become fast friends."
The corners of his lips tip up wickedly with a slant of his gaze.

I have a feeling he may be right. It may be the alcohol, but I'm looking forward to it.
Minutes turn to two hours, and we're still talking, lost in each other, lost in the words and the attraction building with every moment that passes by.

I haven't felt this way before. This sense of want for another person. Not this badly. I want him even more now than I did when I first saw him.

Every time he talks, all I want is to know even more about him, to know his lies and the truths behind them.

He's given me bits of himself, and I've given him crumbs in return. Little tiny fragments of our real selves, but it's been enough to keep us both interested.

It's not like I can share anything too personal, and he seems the same way too...guarded, keeping his deck of cards close to his chest. I get that more than anyone, and it makes him even more intriguing.

I intend to figure him out. Maybe not today, but I will know him.

"How come some man hasn't swept you off your feet yet?" he asks, seemingly curious, as he picks up his whiskey, downing it without even a grimace as though he just drank some water. He pushes the glass away.

"Maybe I don't want to be swept?" I cock a brow. "Maybe I want to be pushed. Hard. Fast."
What am I doing?

But I can't stop myself, especially with this liquor pooling into my empty stomach.
As I take another sip of my drink, he's suddenly off his seat, spinning me in my chair until I'm facing him. His palms land hard on the bar, caging me in as he lowers his face close enough to mine, capturing me.

Excitement shivers, running down my spine as my lungs battle for air.

"Say one more dirty thing, Chiara," he warns, holding my gaze with his heavily-lidded one. "And I'll push you harder than you've ever been pushed before."

Chiara is the daughter of a mobster. One who is not a good man, growing up, she had one solid person in her life… at least until the day he disappeared. Her mother disappeared as well. Chiara had no one. To her father, she was a pawn to be used when he needed something. He chose her college major and she works for him running one of his strip clubs now. Dom lost his mother in a car accident when he was a boy. Three years later, he watched his father and younger brother be murdered, by his best friends father… Chiaras father. He knows he needs to take his brothers and run or they’ll be next. So he does. He and his brothers spend years plotting revenge and building an army. Now… Dom is back to avenge his father and brother, and looking very different than he did before. Chiara is his, but not in the way he always believed when he was younger. He will take her and use her against her father. What transpires is very different than his plan. He didn’t plan to be dragged into her orbit and fall for her, but that’s what happens. He finds the girl she was when they were inseparable in the woman who works for the devil. Will his plans for revenge be derailed or will he follow through? You will have to read the book to find out! It’s a great read, an amazing story, and i recommend it highly! Lillian Harris knows how to build a story to grab your attention, to keep you reading until the very end! This is one of her best for me!

    This is darker, so check your triggers but, I liked the pacing of this!

    I loved both MC’s chemistry with each other - Dom and Chiara are what each other needs, even if they don’t know it.

    I enjoyed seeing the timeline shift and feel like the story moved through each time period so perfectly!

    My heart breaks for 13 year old Dom. I love that he and his brothers became as powerful as they did. They deserve it!
    My heart also breaks for 13 year old Chiara. She grew up in a horrible house, with a horrible dad, and not knowing the depth of his horribleness, is truly heart-wrenching.

    This does have an HEA and the villain gets what he deserves! Which makes up for the emotional trauma the MC’s faced throughout this.

    My biggest complaint is the miscommunication in this. I hated it and wished more than anything that it wasn’t there. My second biggest complaint is the way both MC’s use their body to get “revenge” on the other. It felt gross (in my opinion).

    Other than those 2 things, I really do recommend!

    I can't believe. I did originally see her first line of books. I've read all her others or at least I thought I did then I realized I never read the calaleri brothers. Boy do I love them already. If you want a revenge plot, mafia vibes, spice that just nails it.. this is for you. Her stories always hit and I love how they're all connected in someway.

    This story was sweet and kinda sad the way it all started and how they were ripped apart as kids. They’re all grown and he kidnaps her. They begin to fall all over again. I got really mad when another girl was going down on him in the driveway and he knew chiara was watching. She didn’t know his true identity but he knew hers. That was the only part of the book that I truly hated. Otherwise her and Dom were cute. They had a lot to work through trauma wise from the past but it was a good story.

    I loved this amazing world that the author has built and I loved all the side characters including Enzo, aunt Kristen, Dante & Raquel! They were introduced in an exceptionally suave way and now I can't wait for Dante & Raquel's book to come out!

I loved Dom and Chiara when they were children ( they were adorable together) to the man and woman they are today. I loved Dom and how well written he is. He was in the right about everything and once Chiara learned everything that happened she joined him for real.
    I loved that Chiara was the one that pulled the trigger and i love how strong and witty she was.
    Their love was one that transcended years and a lot of heartache but never because of them and maybe that's why i loved this book so much.
    I loved their dynamic together and the other Cavareli brothers and i honestly cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

    Lilian is a new author to me and this is the first book I’ve read of hers and it will not be the last.
    I loved the story of them knowing each other as kids and being best friends, then loosing touch with each other under difficult circumstances. Revenge is sweet and I’m only glad that faro got what he deserved. I loved the love and chemistry between Dom and Chiara this book was intense and fiery and Chiara was a woman that could certainly give as good as she gets. I love a woman that as a mouth on her lol. Loved this book. Now into Dante’s 🥰

    Great storyline and characters. Suspense, danger, steam and fierce undying love. Loved the chemistry between Chiara and Dom, despite all the bad things that happened in their lives they were still drawn to each other. This was a very exciting book with twists and turns and I was hooked from the start to the end.

    I dropped a star because there was no warning that it ended on a cliffhanger.
