The King's Mother: Book Three of The Beaufort Chronicle (The Beaufort Chronicles 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,001 ratings

'Arnopp is one of those writers who can make history come alive.'

October 1485
Richard III is dead. With the English crown finally in his possession, Henry Tudor’s reign is hindered by continuing unrest.

While the king is plagued with uprisings and pretenders to his throne, Margaret in her capacity as The King’s Mother oversees the running of his court.

The warring houses of York and Lancaster are united but as the royal nursery fills with children Margaret’s expectation of perfect harmony begins to disintegrate.

As quickly as Henry dispatches those whose move against him, new conflicts arise and, dogged by deceit and the harrowing shadow of death, Margaret realises that her time for peace has not yet come.

Intrigue, treason and distrust blights the new Tudor dynasty, challenging Margaret’s strength of character and her steadfast faith in God.

The King’s Mother is the third and final book in The Beaufort Chronicles, tracing the life of Margaret Beaufort.

I have always read and heard and seen depicted in many movies, tv shows, documentaries etc the harshness and extreme ambitions Margaret Beaufort, but I've never read such a great book/s on Margaret just being human. While I know these stories are fiction I truly enjoyed these books and the author's colorful descriptions of the characters

Judith Arnopp writes historical novels quite well, and has fine attention to detail and period. This was not my favorite of the trilogy, and am not completely sure why. Was it because I knew a lot about Margaret or that there was not a lot of happiness in this period from Henry ascension to Margaret's death?

I was pleased to get some sense of the years between when Elizabeth Plantagenet dies and Margaret's own demise. That was definitely worth the read. Henry VIII is not a favorite of mine and apparently his father as well as his Grandmother, Margaret had misgivings about his reign. Premonitions perhaps?

The Beaufort Chronicle, all three books is well worth reading. The first two can be bought as one for $7.95 and then purchase this one. Enjoy!

Interesting story of the world in which Margaret Beaufort lived. I love medieval history and occasionally I will read historical fiction. I enjoyed reading the book. Occasionally it was a little slow moving in a couple of places, but for anyone who wants a primer on the Wars of the Roses and the rise of the Tudor dynasty, this book is a great place to start.

I enjoyed "The King's Mother," the third book of this Trilogy. I liked the first two a bit more; this final book was somewhat episodic and lacking in personal interactions. More of a historical account of what Henry VII faced during his rule, but there were some intimate scenes portrayed, too. I had hoped for a more, but still a very good, and well-written book.

I thoroughly enjoyed Books 1 & 2, though there were many liberties taken with the actual historic facts WHICH the author honestly noted. I have studied the Plantagenet, Lancaster, Tudor lines as a hobby for decades. Proud owner of the circa 1845 series "The Queens of England" by Agnes Strickland. Yes, this 'Beaufort' series is noted as fictional biography I found Book 3 to be a frustrating mix of overly romanticized fact and... sadly... more than a little bit of hokum. Or maybe just "hopium" All in all ("warts and all" one might say) I prefer the historical fiction of Philippa Gregory on this subject. Also Sharon Kay Penman. I give a 3-Star rating because the review covers the series. I would rank the first 2 books a "4" and the third a generous "2" Will now go re-read Philippa Gregory's "The Red Queen" to center myself.

I must say Margaret is nothing like she is portrayed in the movie SpAnish princess. I learned a lot about this generous handling women. Yes she was hard when need be but heroes for her son, grand children well you can't put her Down for it. The wise advice she gives her son and him asking for it is heartfelt. A very good book. I enjoyed it and it about this wonderful women.

I absolutely love how Judith shows us a different view of Margaret Beaufort and the Tudor court. Margaret has always interested me because of her tenacity and power in a time women were considered weak, frail creatures. So when I came across Judith's, "The King's Mother," I was excited to see this woman come to life in a different way.

Judith ties up the series quite beautifully. I found myself in tears several times at the misfortune that shaped Margaret Beaufort. My heart broke against itself as Margaret watches the demise of her son. I could feel the heartbreak and the resolve of Margaret Beaufort.

Judith has the ability to place the reader right at the heart of the Tudor court and come away having seen Margaret Beaufort as a loving mother who was a rock for her son and England.

'The King's Mother' is the final book in the trilogy The Beaufort Chronicles. 'The King's Mother' chronicles the life of Margaret Beaufort, and gives an excellent insight into her life and the reign of her son, Henry V11. Margaret tells her own story and gives the reader an authentic view of the lives of the Tudors. The intrigues, marriages, and the imprisonment of those opposed to them as they fought and schemed to secure their dynasty.
There are wonderful descriptions of royal life in Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, and Margaret's own houses and estates.
This is a compulsive read. Once started the book is hard to abandon. The reader gets pulled into the story of Margaret, Henry V11, and his wife, Elizabeth and their children including the young Henry V111. Well worth the read and a definite 5 star book throughout.

A 5* rating for this book as well ending the trilogy about Margaret Beaufort! What a journey for Margaret!!! A woman living for her son, has reached the highest rank after her son in the kingdom. Loneliness was however never far off: deaths, feelings being repressed in order to survive, pride, fear, all has taken its toll to shape Margaret into what she has become. Judith Arnopp has lent her voice to an unforgettable woman. One whom we can only admire for her strength of will in a time when survival was most crucial to the highest in the kingdom.
