The Spider & the Storm Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,155 ratings

From the bestselling author of Saving Rain comes a bittersweet, heartbreaking story about a broken cemetery caretaker and the woman who gave him shelter from life’s constant storm.

Along came The Spider …

They called me a freak.

They called me a loser.

They tormented me and made my life a living nightmare when all I had ever wanted was to be left alone.

And five years ago, after a lifetime of being bullied and harassed, of enduring more pain and trauma than any man could handle, that’s exactly what I set out to do.

I left the only home I’d ever known to lock myself behind the cemetery gates and care for the only people who have ever given me the peace I craved—the dead.

But just as I’d started to feel comfortable, an unexpected stranger broke into my house and fell into my web of reclusive safety, and somehow, opened my eyes to love and the possibility that I just might have the strength to weather the storm after all …

✨️ mental health rep ✨️found family ✨️grumpy sunshine ✨️touch her and you know what happens.. ✨️anti hero ✨️emotional scars ✨️wallflower My heart ❤️ "Honestly, I think, sometimes, we're supposed to experience pain in order to make us change." This book is the story of Charlie Corbin. Charlie is someone I describe as an 'old soul'. He has an amazing intuition, and people think that's crazy. Without giving away too much of the story, this book follows Charlie as he copes with issues stemming from his parents and his brother Luke. "My sould doesn't know how to not love yours." Charlie has been in love a few times in his life. He's a fall hard and fast kinda guy- but something is different about stormy. She's the yin to his yang. The one who won't run from but instead will celebrate in their mutual weirdness. "Let it go, Charlie. And until you do, I'll love you enough for both of us." This book brought out all the emotions. I took it slow and steady to savor this story. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone.

Oh my word. I knew this book was going to emotionally devastate me and it was absolutely met expectations.

Charlie broke my heart from the very beginning and his relationship with Luke perfectly demonstrated the complicated relationships between siblings as we grow up. I loved the different flashbacks and how they tied into the current story.

Stormy came into his Charlie’s life and was a breath of fresh air. Both Stormy and Charlie were able to help each other overcome so many difficulties from their past, as well as some challenges in the present.

I read this book in one day and have no regrets for the sleep deprivation I will be experiencing. This book was beautifully written and the characters were complex individuals who demonstrated growth throughout this story. Just be prepared to need tissues for the last 80-ish pages.

I had to marinate on this one before I could even string words together to attempt a review.

This book is not for everyone, let's just get that out of the way.

It is CHARACTER DRIVEN, I'd even venture to say that it borders on literary fiction, but it is very much a dark romance. No list of tropes here--this is not that kind of romance. This is about grief, depression and anxiety, family, self-discovery, self-acceptance, forgiveness, centered around the idea that everything happens for a reason. The romance is this story can only be described as when you know, you know. Call it what you will but to me it's a love at first sight or even soulmates. It's beautiful

This book is not for those who need a heavy plot and the traditional structure of a romance. If you don't like alternating timelines/flashback chapters, this is not for you because that is how the entire story is told. If heavy focus on depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts is triggering for you, or too sad-this is not for you either. It is emotional and heavy, which seem to be the bulk of the points I've seen in most unfavorable reviews, so take that into account before picking this one up.

If you're like me and everything I just mentioned are things you love in a book, then I highly recommend giving it a go.

Such a riveting story. Charlie has suffered so much in his life. so many time he has had to trudge through loss one way or another. But he always had his brother Luke. When Luke was sent away. You could see the edges of Charlie fray. He needed to leave to be able to breathe. Loved how he got to seemingly get closure in his “dream”. And admitted who his true haunting was by. Loved how stormy was practically made for Charlie. And how their connection to her past made that much more meant to be.

This one grabbed me and insisted I make it be known how good this story is, and encourage everyone to read it. So here I am, doing just that. Be warned, you will be all in your emotions throughout the entire book. This one will grip you and it won’t let go, even long after you’ve finished the words written on its pages. This is a beautiful story about love, loss, resurrection, and surviving life. I can’t say I’ve ever experienced anything close to what any of the characters in this book have, but reading it gave me a better sense of how these experiences impact a person. It was beautifully put together, balancing the past and the present. I hate being so vague and not elaborating more on why I feel the way I do about this book, but I personally feel that going into this blind is best. I read the excerpt and had a vague idea of what to expect, but nothing more, and I’m so glad I did. It prevented the story from being tainted or having any opinions before diving in. Anyway, all of this is to say that this book is so worthy of your time and attention. Kelsey seriously outdid herself with this one, and it will find home in the ‘favorites of all time’ column.

This was way longer then it needed to be. It got very boring as nothing really happened and the story could have been told in half the pages. I didn’t really feel the connection between Stormy and Charlie. And there were too many coincidences to have a few eye roll moments. Can’t stay I was a big fan and definitely skimmed over pages.

Did you like the Crank series as a teen? Want to read a gorgeously written adult version of it that rips your heart directly from your chest and shoves it back in a little more full of hope? Had a rough childhood? Read the book. It's cheaper than therapy.
I mistakenly purchased this thinking it was a fantasy setting. I hate books that don't contain magic or dragons or whatever- BUT I binge read this overnight for 6! HOURS! It had me hooked from the first chapter. Headed to buy her other two books immediately,as well as a physical copy of this one for my shelf.

I absolutely loved this book. The Spider and the Storm took my heart to through every emotion possible! It truly is a cathartic experience. Charlie Corbin is best man I have met!

Kelsey Kingsley’s writing has captured me since the first book I read many years ago. I loved each book, maybe just a little bit more than the one before. These are all characters you will be thinking about years later. I can’t imagine all that she must have experienced while writing this book. This book covers all the facets of love we experience during life. It spans from childhood into adulthood. I felt this book on a visceral level. I cried my heart out…but in the best way possible!

Charlie experiences so much in his life. I can’t imagine all that he experienced. He has the most pure heart that shines through these terrible moments. I can’t imagine meeting anyone better than Charlie Corbin!

You are going to LOVE reading the Spider & the Storm!! It’s the most unforgettable, emotional, and beautiful experience. I love how her books are interconnected. You catch up with old friends in Kelsey Kingsley’s books. After you’ve read this book, you can start with any of her other books. They’re all amazing!!

I saw a reel on Instagram about a 6'3 dude with tattoos, likes hand necklaces and the whole thing was written in his POV... I thought yes, romance, give me this cinnamon roll.... Boy was I in for a Rollercoaster of emotions *E-MOTIO-NAL DA-MAGE* I read it in a day because I couldn't put it down, but when I did it's because I was crying and couldn't keep going (for a couple of minutes) and then went back to it.
There are 2 other books in this Serie but jeeesus I will give myself some time before I continue with soldier and Blake, if this book hurt me, healed me, broke me and then gave me a wonderful ending I have no doubt the other will be the same... But again my eyes are too swollen hhaha hence the small break, it's a wonderful book and you won't regret reading it, I know I didn't!

The Spider and The Storm, another emotionally charged story that sucked me right in from the beginning. I pick up a book from this author and I'm not escaping unscathed. I must be a sucker for the pain.

I cried more than once, my heart broke because it hurt for these fictional characters. My anxiety and emotions were in overdrive.
But for every page of pain there was hope, hope that things were going to get better, that life wouldn't always be so cruel. That fate could deliver some kind of balance.

This was a story that had a bit of everything you could wish for. It was unpredictable, unconventional and unforgettable.
I have so much love for Charlie and Stormy two souls that come together in the most eerie and beautiful way. I loved the bond between Lucas and Charlie too and Melanie was an absolute angel.

5 Stars for Spiders, Storms and Unbreakable Bonds.

She did it again. Kelsey Kingsley did it again. I Just recently devoured 'Warrior blue' - that book broke me. But this?
I don't know how many times I started ugly crying. Still - I am ugly crying.
    I loved the Story so much. It was so well written & I felt e v e r y t h i n g. I don't really cry when I'm reading but like I said I was ugly crying.
The whole Backstory of spider hurt so bad. I feel so sorry for him but at the same time through the book his development, his growth was amazing.
We need more books like that. We need more deep meaning.

Omg what a story that was!! I would’ve finished this book much sooner but the last hour of it had me crying so I had to keep stopping! I’m soooo happy that Charlie finally found happiness and with someone who could see him for the special beautiful guy he was! Ive also read about an amazing beautiful love between two brothers! I really need to mention Luke I loved him too! I am so heartbroken about him he deserved so much more! I’m feeling pretty wrecked tbh and will be thinking about this for some time! An incredible story!

I became so attached to these characters and the journey they go on. I'm tempted to do a reread to see the nudges along the way. It's a truly beautiful story ❤️
