The Summer of Him: A Celebrity Mistaken Identity Romance (Summer Heat Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 84 ratings

He's a gorgeous actor who charms everyone in his wake. I'm a travel-weary nobody who's getting over a broken heart.

Separately, we look like opposites. But together, we're kindling waiting for a match.

I suppose I have my two-timing ex to thank. He wrecked our relationship, but I was not about to let him ruin my vacation. So here I am, on a romantic romp through Paris, dining solo at a table for two in the city of love, determined to have a good time on my own.

Enter Chris Conley.

He’s a hot megawatt movie star used to the limelight and women lining up for him. And even though I refuse to be one of them, I have to admit, I'm done in by him—the dark swoony eyes, his unabashed laugh, the cravings he ignited with only a look.

We agree to give each other two weeks. Then real life will kick in.

But is two weeks enough when it might be love?

Part one of the Summer Heat Duet. This book ends with a small cliffhanger that is resolved in Forever with Him.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Stacy Travis writes charming, spicy romance about bookish, sassy women and the hot alphas who fall for them.

Writing makes her infinitely happy, but that might be the coffee talking. She drinks a LOT of it.

She's worked as a journalist, camp counselor, TV writer, SAT tutor, corporate finance researcher, education technology editor, and non-fiction author. When she's not on a deadline, she's in running shoes complaining that all roads seem to go uphill. Or on the couch with a margarita. Or fangirling at a soccer game.

She's never met a dog she didn't want to hug. And if you have no plans for Thanksgiving, she'll probably invite you to dinner.

Stacy lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two sons, and a poorly-trained rescue dog who hoards socks. And she's serious about the Thanksgiving thing.

This is my first book by this author, and I found her writing style a very welcoming easy and smooth read. There are less than a dozen proofreading typos, mostly a missing article or preposition, and only a couple F words strategically placed. This allowed for full immersion into the story to create it my mind's eye and consume it along the way.

I loved the story of Nikki and Chris, and couldn't put it down. I don't consider it a cliffhanger, as this story does have a clear ending and break point in their history. I want to savor this story for a while before I start book 2.

Stacy Travis is my new favorite author.

I just finished A Summer of Him and once again was not disappointed by Stacy Travis. I found the characters likable, the story line engaging, and the ending exciting, leaving me ready for the sequel. Taking place in Paris and the south of France transported me there. It allowed me to be right there with the characters which made for a great escape during these days of quarantine. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance novel, especially one where an unexpected relationship develops during travel to a romantic setting.

The Summer of Him is book one in the Summer Heat Duet by Stacy Travis. This is my very first book by Stacy.

Nikki Woodford is thirty years old and just got out of a year long relationship that ended very badly, with her ex cheating on her. They had planned a two week vacation to Paris together, one she was paying for. So Nikki is determined that she isn’t going to let her ex ruin her dream vacation. Even though she’ll be taking it by herself. So, a woman who plans everything, and doesn’t speak French, gets on the plane with no plan in mind, and embarks on an adventure, alone.

Struggling with jet lag and trying to figure things out, Nikki finds herself face to face with the most beautiful man she’s ever seen. He introduced himself as Chris. Nikki doesn’t watch super hero movies, but it soon became evident that Chris was someone she should have recognized. He was THE Chris Conley, famous movie star. But to her, he was still just Chris, the man whose eyes seemed to see everything. A romantic dinner, and a few magical kisses convince both Nikki and Chris that they need more. So, she agrees to spend her two weeks with him, a romantic summer fling in Paris!

As Nikki and Chris spend time together, feelings begin to bloom. But Nikki has to keep reminding herself to keep her heart out of this. That Chris lives in New York, when he’s even there and not traveling all over the world making movies. Nikki lives and works in Los Angeles. Their lives could never work together.

Nikki finds herself enjoying a life style that is completely foreign to her, one only those with lots of money enjoy. A life of private jets, red carpets, beautiful original gowns, and sunset sails. But behind it all is the man who to her is still just Chris, a normal man who is slowly stealing her heart.

This was a sweet, steamy, romantic story of two people finding something special at the most unexpected of times. It’s told entirely from Nikki’s point of view. At times I was just dying to know what was going on in Chris’s head. I didn’t realize going in but this is a duet, so there is a bit of a cliff hanger. The second book in the series, Forever With Him, is the conclusion to their love story. I so want these two to figure things out. I’ll just have to wait to find out!

I could see something like this happening, although maybe not - that's how believable the author's writing style is. The dialogue is wonderful, the characters are intriguing and the scenery as described makes me want to hop on a plane for France. Nikki and Chris are the epitome of opposites attract, but the attraction is strong. While both are guarded, they slowly break down the walls around their hearts and learn to really feel for the other. I loved everything about this story and while I really dislike cliffhangers, I was so hooked I just couldn't resist buying the second book.

Third book by this author and I really liked it a lot. I love how Chris and Nikki meet it was so cute and completely a fluke. I mean what are the chances you meet a famous action movie star in a Paris grocery store when you are about to have a meltdown? The two embark on a vacation fling but when they vacation of over and the feelings are still there what are the two complete opposites who live in opposite sides of the country to do? Guess we will all have to find out in Part 2 of this Duet...

Side note this is the third duet I’ve read in a row. Why must I keep doing this to myself. Oh well I’m sure part 2 will be worth the wait.

I would have given this five stars but I really much prefer dual point of view. Whenever it’s one POV I spend a good part of the book wishing I knew what the other persons thoughts were. Otherwise this was a great read.

**I was generously provided with an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review**

Nikki decided to take the trip by herself that was originally to be her and her boyfriend. The boyfriend turned out to be a cheating jerk, so more power to her for going alone. And then she meets a certified hottie and suddenly her trip is looking up. A fling is just what she needs to get her out of her head. But is it just a fling? Is her gorgeous stranger someone other than just a gorgeous fling?

Welllll...the ending of this one has me very worried for this adorable couple, I have to admit. But I hope that the author plans on giving them some happiness, so I'll just cross my fingers that their ending is better than the way The Summer of Him ended. Aside from the cliffhanger ending, though, I liked this first part of Nikki and Chris' story. It's cute and hot and I'm dying to know if they get their happy ever after now.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy.

There’s nothing to it. A romance that led to a HEA! Sort off, because it’s ended on a cliffhanger. But, I’m ready for the next one.
