The author begins by demonstrating to the reader how a seemingly impossible problem to solve becomes solvable when a person stops thinking of in terms of constraints and starts thinking in terms of possibilities.
I particularly liked the rules of persuasion he outlines and explains in detail. I use #2 frequently in my job in sales and marketing, which is to lead with the benefit that will be gained.
The author details some good techniques for both individuals and groups for coming up with creative solutions.

Some insightful questions. For example - when do you have many of your good ideas? You are often only as effective as the questions you ask yourself and this was a brilliant one as it helped me to realise I have most of mine in the middle of the night or early morning (before looking at my cellphone!). The section on first principles also excellent.

Recommended for readers looking for short, generally easy to understand bits of advice on how to access more creative thinking, primarily in a business environment. There are also supporting pieces, similarly straightforward and bite sized, about how to communicate and market a creative idea.

Tjahja smartly recognizes that there is not one way of thinking creatively, but rather many roads that lead to Rome. If you are more of a thinking person, use a thinking person’s creative approach. If you are more of a feeler, then use those gifts to guide you.

As a bonus, scattered throughout the book are interesting examples, puzzles, riddles, etc. to help explain the points. In a number of cases, the points made are slight, but the author very much owns up to this, and kind of wears the power of simplicity and not making things too complicated on his sleeve. Ultimately, Tjaha writes with the confidence of someone who has faced crises of creativity and overcome them. As he states, “The more problems you solve, the more creative you will be.”

This book has changed the way I look at creativity. The ideas and suggestions here really streamlined the process of being creative when you need to be. A lot times we have good ideas but we can’t replicate rhe circumstances under which we’re most creative. Now, I can pull on this processes at will.

So insightful to look at things differently and deconstruct what we would normally fall back on as the usual way of thinking/doing things. Thoroughly enjoyed opening my mind to new ways of thinking, and to remember to try these new ideas! Worth a second/third read.

Creativity and the creation of ideas are a matter of approach. Deryl Tjahja explains in his book great ways to work out solutions and be creative in many ways for a variety of different situations. This book is an all-purpose weapon for creative thinking, so to speak. A great written book with fantastic ideas and guidance on how to use creative thinking techniques.

A strong recommendation for all those who work creatively or who deal with finding solutions to problems in any form, whether in everyday life or at work.

There are a lot of books on problem solving. The beauty of this book is that it breaks down the constraints humans put on their thinking and shows the reader how to overcome those constraints. I particularly loved the chapter dedicated to approaches based on personality preferences. There is also a good section around communicating solutions and ideas that increase the likelihood of the idea being accepted. Not always the easiest thing to achieve, particularly if it’s beyond the obvious.
