In this third book of the Time Hunters series, Carl Ashmore has created another fantastic adventure filled with action, intrigue, and a coterie of captivating characters. "Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate" introduces us to several of Uncle Percy's fellow time travelers as well as a new and very nasty villain. We also see the return of some old favorites, including one of my favorite characters from Book One (Edgar the Minotaur) who returns to play a pivotal role in this adventure.

In this third installment, Uncle Percy learns that his nemesis is after another of the five Eden Relics. As with the first two relics, our heroes attempt to find it first and prevent Emerson Drake and his evil entourage from getting their hands on it. Their search leads them to the lost city of Atlantis as well as Ancient Egypt. Joining their Uncle Percy once again are Becky and Joe Mellor. Although still teenagers, the Mellor children are growing up fast and they become much more involved in the action (and danger) that their latest quest brings.

Perhaps the thing I love best about the Time Hunter series is the way the author incorporates historical characters, locations and events within the story. I find myself googling these facts to see which ones are based in reality and which are fictional. More often than not, they are fact. For example, I had never heard of Aribert Heim. So naturally I went to the internet to see if this person (also known as Dr. Death) actually existed... and he did. Yet the author incorporates him into the book in such a way that you actually believe this could have been part of his untold life story.

Anyway, if you haven't read any of the Time Hunters books... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!? These books are so entertaining, and such an easy read. If you love young adult fiction, page-turning adventure and/or time travel, you will love this series.

I am writing this review for the whole series of five. I've had SUCH a great time with Joe and Becky and of course, Uncle Percy! The supporting cast is great too- Will and the others. And the villains are almost too evil for younger kids. I love how Ashmore incorporates myth and legend and history into the stories. And I adore his writing style!!! I pretty much lost a long weekend speeding through the series of five books. I sometimes will re-read a book or series, especially if it is rich in detail with a great plot and characters. And as I started last night to read the whole series again I thought I better share my joy with the Amazon community. I really hope Ashmore brings back the Mellors and Halifax for a new time travel series! And I can't wait for Carl Ashmore to bring on another book- or preferably another series as good as this one. Well done Carl Ashmore!!

Yea there are a few typos and many of the suspenseful scenes are predictable, but . . .
The story is flipping fun. Just let the story flow and it is worth the trip.

Another shining series that engages the young & the young of heart.

5 stars for top value, great reads, great entertainment.

I bought the first of the series from an ad-hoc flag via Kindle Buffet, consumed it & bought the 2nd without hesitation (no sampling needed). At the end of the 2nd, left still wanting for more, rinse and repeat upon realising the 3rd of the series was also already out there.

The series "may" be a little (very little) predictable in parts but that's not necessarily a bad thing & made up for in equal or more parts of the unexpected. Great twists on some points of history & mythology. NOT in any way shape or form a time travelling norm of travel in time, get trapped & then endure a long drawn out possibly boring account of how to get back.

Look forward to touching base "solidly" with the kids Dad; hope that is coming very soon in the series & can't wait for the next in the series; please keep them coming.

Possible the best book so far in the series in this book you will learn why Minotaur's, Harpies, Hydras and so forth exist and where the legends come from!

In this novel you meet a young Egyptian girl who leads the team on their mission to save the spear and her people from a new evil henchman worse then any of the previous villains, Their are many great twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout the length of the novel.

As always Joe and Becky are the soul of the book while the uncle is the true brains of the outfit and Will is the muscles so too speak. Also Edgar makes a return though the reason for this is not a happy one!

Well worth the time and money too read! It will make a great present for any young or even not so young reader.

Further timely adventures of Becky and Joe with brilliant Uncle Percy! Edgar the Minotaur, Will from Sherwood Forest, and The man from the Wild West join their little family to save to Spear of Fate from evil time lords who would change the world’s history. Layla, the future queen of Egypt, and her pet, Adme help them keep on the straight and narrow true history in their flying RV…..

5.0 out of 5 stars And the Quest Continues...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 6, 2013
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be Time Travellers? **sigh**
In the The Time Hunters and the Spear of Fate we once again go on the trail of a lost relic, the Spear of Fate, this time, before evil Emerson Drake, a rogue Time Traveller, can get his dirty hands on it. And time is not on our side (pun intended).
I have read the first two, The Time Huntersand The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity (Book 2) and it is darker, more sinister but no worries, still plenty of excitement and fun. Plenty of action too, and strangely enough, plenty of real historic facts mixed with fiction (euh, I admit it... I did not know there was really an artefact called the Spear of Fate, or I did not know the real name of Dr Death) and plenty of facts on mythology (ie. the Minotaurs, Atlantis, Ancient Egypt) but these little fun facts (except for Dr Death) flow in very well with the stories as they are answers to innocent question from either Becky or Joe.
But it is, before everything else, a book for children (of all ages) and it does not fail us. I could not read it in one sitting, unfortunately, but my daughter did. She likes Becky, even though my daughter is only 10 and I suspect she is trying to develop telekinesis in secret.
If you have not read it yet, then do it now. The kindle version, if you have a kindle, is very affordable. I read somewhere that Mr Ashmore was going to release soon number 4, so, get ready. This is the series of the Time Hunter, but each book can be read independently. There is some background info so, you can catch up who is who and the background info does not impede the reading at all.
You will love Uncle Percy. He is, I would say, an Indiana Jones with a touch of the mad professor. He must be quite dishy too as many of the ladies in the Time Travelling Community make doe eyes at him (not that he notices anyway) and a real gentleman hero. Becky would like to be like any sixteen year old girl and has some problems to come to term with her ''special'' abilities, but she is very wise for her years and Joe, well, Joe is heavy, cheeky, boisterous, but as I have a twelve year old son, I can really say that he is quite well portrayed.
There is also the enigmatic Will, Edgar the Minotaur and other wonderful people like Maria and her husband, the housekeepers, and Barbie, the ... robot helper.
As a parent, I have no hesitation in recommending the three books of the Time Hunters. As a reader, I recommend them to anyone who is young at heart and loves fantasy. Young at heart because you have to remember that they are principally written for children.

I love these time travel stories! they are fun, fast, and very enjoyable!
Becky and Jo have a wonderful adventure in the few days leading up the Christmas, and there are lots of imaginative and clever things going on which once again held me from first to last.
Well researched, and , if I can say this of a time travel story, very believable!
The action is tied in with history in a nice way, that reminds you of things that you already knew, but have put to the back of your mind, I loved all of this book, as I have the first 2...I look forward to more!!
Clever and yet such good fun, thank you again Carl.
