Jackson Bishop doesn't know what's real.

He had a birthday. He met a man. He buried his mother. He got lost in the woods, and then...

Jackson woke up.

It's his birthday again and his mother is alive, but the man from his dream is selling him a coffee and he doesn't know Jackson's name. Fragments of his memories become tangible threads of his reality and, as the days and nights unravel, Jackson finds himself falling for a stranger he feels like he's known his whole life.

Jackson needs to uncover the truth before he loses his mind, but when he pieces everything together, will he come out with a soul mate by his side or will he wake up and discover none of it was real? That everything ended much as it had started.

As a dream.

    Dreams
    By: Kate Hawthorne
    Narrated by: Michael Ferraiuolo

I enjoyed this book, the story is original and intriguing, it grabbed my attention right from the start and held it the entire book. It took me awhile to get catch on with the dream fantasy elements, at first I was thinking there was a ground hog day thing going on but how wrong I was. I adored the two lead characters, Jackson and Taylor, true soulmates who have known each other for years but in the most unique of ways. I think it is best to go in to this book knowing as little as possible and with an open mind. This is a cleverly plotted story and there is never a dull moment, timelines alternate back and forth from dreams to reality, so hold on tight as you delve into these wonderful character’s lives. Kate Hawthorne, thank you for the intriguing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice and personality, making it easy to follow along and tell who is how. He had a complete understanding of the characters he portrayed, taking each role and making it his own. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into his performance. Michael Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

So I was a little confused at first, because I think I expected have the book be from Taylor's POV. The only downside is that I wish I had gotten to know Taylor better.

For something SO different from the other books I've read from Kate, I REALLY enjoyed it. I mean, I devoured it in roughly two hours. It was one of those things that kept me guessing and wondering, and then the "OOOHHHHHH" moment when things finally all clicked together, like a neat little puzzle. I enjoyed the little revelations here and there, but I am bad at writing these because I'm afraid of giving spoilers.

Basically, if you're expecting the normal Kate, don't. This is a refreshing change of pace and kept me intrigued throughout.

The flow of the story was choppy and at times I got confused or lost. We were never given more information on Taylor’s background especially about the dreams he had since he was ten. There were a few grammatical errors as well.

Story time: So I read Coraline when I was younger and it was weird but I understood what was happening. And then I saw the movie? And I didn’t understand it? And it was weird? But I liked it?
That’s what this book was to me. Kind of stressful to read, really confusing, and yet...somehow....I liked it? There are a lot of question marks happening in this review and that’s just because I DONT KNOW. But when I came over here to review it, I felt like I had to give it four stars.
    So I did.
    Maybe it’s fated.

    Running thoughts:

    The blurb gave me goosebumps.

Why is this 13 year old only getting 6 hours of sleep? The mom in me needs to know.

Okay the prologue confuses me now? What? I’ve gone back and read the blurb like 3 times already.

    Listen. I’m a little stressed.

    What is happeninggggg

I was typing a word here and it autocorrected to ‘opiates’ and I feel like that really vibes with this experience so far.

Maybe if you have ever felt disassociated from yourself that you shouldn’t read this book. I’ll let you know.

If Taylor isn’t real I’m going to be angry.

Is Taylor asking a question and then Taylor answer the question part of This? Or a typo? I honestly don’t know.

    Okay. What.

To answer the above re:disassociation, it definitely treads that line of too much, but I think it’s okay. I’m okay.

    Am I?

I was prepared for a story that would rip my heart up a little and then put it back together, and that's definitely what I got. So many questions went unanswered, but were answered at the same time. I loved it, and I would love to read more by Kate in this genre!

I had no idea what to expect from this when I started, and I was blown away. A great love story, and it reminded me in many ways of the movie Arrival. Not quite the same concept but pleasantly mind-bending at times.

This was a very off the wall read. Two men have been dreaming of each other since teenagers and now they've met. Confused because one of the men can't tell if he's awake or not and fears when he opens his eyes he'll be dreaming. Makes him think he's losing his mind. Other than that good read.

❤ This a great book and different to the authors other stories. Believing in Fate, Coincidences and soul mates makes this one a great book to read.
A good start as Taylor is 13 and had dreams of when he was older.
Jackson was 31 and had visions of his younger self at 13 a time he loses his father, but he doesn’t know what it means. He visits a coffee shop and sees a new barista, Taylor.. Kismet meets, and a line of things happen. The loss of his mother, remeeting Taylor, and being in the woods. Riddles and intrigue begins with them both seemly knowing each other.
"There's never enough time" or "Time is nothing" "Dreams or reality" as things go throughout this book.
Oh god this book had me in tears with Jackson's mum as he said the words to her and she knew. This is filled with emotions for them both and brilliantly written. Hot sexy scenes included is always in the authors books.
I cant wait to read Darren's story.

Taylor 26 and had dreams as well.. Working at a café brought his dream walking through the doors.

I love this book. It's not your traditional MM romance but it's definitely a love story and it's totally addictive. Jackson sees Taylor and there is instant attraction and a nagging sense of familiarity. Then there are the weird dreams - is this real or an overactive imagination? It's a stunning tale with twists and turns to keep you guessing till the end. Bravo Kate

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique and intriguing read
Reviewed in Australia on December 6, 2020
This book was unique, and a bit of a trip to read. I can't say it was enjoyable, but it was definitely intriguing. This author's representation of soulmates, and their journey to find each other in this life, was like nothing I've ever read before. Jackson and Taylor were great characters, and I loved seeing them figure things out. From the blurb, I though it would be Jackson who remembered his dreams, and Taylor who didn't. Instead, Taylor remembered a lifetime of dreams, and it was Jackson who was newly awakened to them. At times I was as confused as Jackson was with what was reality and what was a dream. His dreams were so vivid, and it didn't help that Taylor spoke cryptically to him a lot of the time too. It made for a very interesting read that I didn't want to put down. I would recommend this book if you're looking for something unique with regards to the soulmate theme.
