TINSAL Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

Fantasy with a twist; akin to an alternate Assassin’s Creed, where tarot cards are the weapons.

Bronwyn, a woman scorned, loses her honour, status, and her leg, and now the time has come to exact retribution.

Zanderin, a sorcerer bound to her, waves his magic over the attention seeking cards, each with a name attached, and every card becomes a symbol of doom. This is a cosmic deck, dealing in fate. Via his swift carriage, hooded and cloaked, he is the harbinger and assassin.

Terra meets her betrothed, Rhodry, when Zanderin gifts his first card. Rhodry and Zanderin are connected, and everyone linked to them is on Bronwyn’s list of names.

TINSAL is about bloodlines, secrets, and a controlled society. As the cards are dealt, death follows, until the endgame moves to Castle Tinsal itself.

Elaina lives in magical Ireland after leaving the surrounds of magnificent Table Mountain at the southern tip of Africa. Having lived in both Ireland and New Zealand, she now realises Ireland’s mists are close to perfection. When writing she puts into words her travels and dreams, because she believes there is inspiration in even the most outrageous tale.

After studying Purchasing Management and working in the formal sector as a buyer, she chose to raise and home-school her three children. She started writing novels around 2002, moving from children’s stories, poetry and short stories to concentrate on larger works.

While her main body of work has been her Fantasy Series (Lore of Arcana, Lore of Reaume and Lore of Sanctum), she is a diverse writer and her credits include novels and shorter stories in the Contemporary, Humorous, Paranormal, Dystopian, Alternate History and Romantic genres, as well as non-fiction. Several of her books have been translated into Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German, and many are available in audio also.

Ireland’s ancient past has influenced her writing, gifting her work a Celtic twist, while the majesty of New Zealand has led her to mountaintops and extraordinary vistas. The vibrancy of Africa has had much to do with the inspirational side of Elaina’s work. The colours and diversity of nature itself fires her imagination.

Come with her to places familiar and far, far away!

Another five-star fantasy from the poetic imagination of Elaina Davidson, who is quickly becoming a fav of mine. Tinsal is the (fourth?) book I’ve read from this author and each is as good as the last. Filled with spicy intrigue, family drama, adventure, folklore & mystery, Tinsal doesn’t disappoint. Excellent writing and overall story.

This is an original and unusual tale; difficult to describe and impossible to forget. It speaks of another place and time in a locale only hinted at but never revealed. The names of the characters and places suggest the setting, but the reader is left to wonder.
Zanderin the sorcerer, and Bronwyn, the evil mistress he is bound to, have begun to use a mysterious Tarot deck in magical ways to direct the fates of individuals and their family members. The reader watches the cards of this deck being carefully and thoughtfully given out and slowly discovers the intertwined paths of the families Sindaland, Fairweather, Merripen, and Hiller.
This is an old society where wounds fester in the shadows because of terrible feuds and rivalries of the past. It is a place of mind games, hidden motives and calculated responses filled with nuanced meaning, calculated to gain advantage and revenge.
Elaina Davidson tells this story ever so patiently, only revealing as much as necessary to keep the tale going. She doesn’t create frustration with this approach, just well crafted tension, and we feel our minds and perhaps our bodies too, being drawn to the edge of our seats. One by one the cards are played, destinies are dealt, and the endgame approaches.
What part do we play in this life? How is someone’s destiny intertwined with our own? Tinsal leaves you pondering questions you may have never considered before.
    Highly recommended, Five stars.

This was such an amazing book! It was so full of adventure I felt as if I had been holding my breath after I read the first page and was only able to exhale after the book was finished.A game of cosmic tarot brings terror and love into the lives of the people who are forced to participate. Beginning this book I thought it was going to be a lovely romance but boy oh boy it was that and so much more. There are families that were torn apart by secrets and sorcery,an evil witch focused on vengeance and so many surprises it quenches a book lovers appetite, Elaina J Davidson has amazing skills weaving these wonderful tales. She is able to tap into the mind of readers who love a good adventure and she never fails.I highly recommend this book to all!
