A New Leash on Love: A Clean Small Town Romance (True Love Animal Sanctuary Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 96 ratings

He doesn’t want to lose his business.
She doesn’t want to lose her sense of home.
Can they keep those things if they fall in love?

Hannah Lockhart is only in True Love to help her cousin out at her new animal sanctuary. It's thousands of miles from home, and she's ready to get back to her job. Then she and the owner of the juice bar start off on the wrong foot, which reinforces her desire to leave. Except a wrong number text turns into fun banter and shines a better light on this new town her cousin now calls home.

Luke Steiner is so worried about his dog’s health that he’s short-tempered with a customer. When he apologizes in person, she fires back and he ends up agreeing to spending more time with her to get her back home as soon as possible. But then a number he doesn’t recognize texts him for help around town and he replies, hoping it’ll brighten his awful day.

Luckily for him, it does.
Unluckily for him, he has no idea it’s Hannah on the other end.
And she doesn’t know it’s Luke.

As their anonymous text messages become more frequent, their in-person relationship begins to soften. But Hannah’s still determined to get back home, and Luke’s track record with women tells him he needs to back off before he loses his business—again.

When the truth comes out, will Hannah and Luke go their separate ways? Or will the pair have a new “leash” on love?

Such a charming read, once Hannah started to grow on me and that took a good few chapters. Uptight, impatient, and self centered are your first impressions. As the story progresses she unwinds, mellows and becomes quite likable. Dogs, rescue animals and true love, what more can you ask for in a book?! We got to meet some delightful characters that I hope get their own HEA.

A New Leash on Love was well-written. However, it took too long to get invested in the characters--and I never could get invested in Hannah. Unless you're a snooty rich b***h (and those types of people don't usually do manual labor, so that type of personality didn't match who Hannah was supposed to be), you're just not going to treat someone like she did. And the whole thing with turning up her nose at anything that wasn't vegan drove me nuts, as it sounded too judgmental.

Otherwise, I loved the concept of the story, loved that it was written in third-person, loved the animal rescue part of it, and loved Luke.

I loved the main characters in this story by Eliza Boyd. Luke’s concern for his dog makes him a bit grumpy and preoccupied at the beginning, yet he still makes time for his fellow townspeople. It gets his relationship with Hannah off to a rough start. Yet Hannah is not without her flaws. She comes to town to help her cousin Brooke set up her animal sanctuary, but Hannah has a chip on her shoulder about the town of True Love being too small since it doesn’t have a Target or Whole Foods nearby.
Their readiness to apologize to one another when appropriate helps both Luke and Hannah become more likable to each other and to me. I loved the fact that they were willing to humble themselves and be real. I particularly enjoyed their texting anonymously due to the mistaken identity and the friendship they developed which made each of them suspect the other’s true identity and personality.
This was a fun story with well developed characters and several lovable animals thrown in. The romance develops organically and realistically. I definitely recommend this book.

They started out on the wrong foot but can innocent text messages lighten the mood between them or tear them further apart. Hannah is in town to help out her cousin when she runs into Luke. His disposition only adds to her reasoning to get back home. Is there hope of these two working out their disagreements for a happily ever after? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.

A New Leash on Love is an exciting start to a spin-off series in True Love, AZ. I was not ready to leave True Love so I am delighted to have more books set there. Brooke has opened her animal sanctuary and persuades her cousin Hannah to come help with the finishing touches. I loved all the four legged characters in this book. This is a clever story where Hannah meets Luke on a day Luke is rude because he is so concerned about his dog. Then Hannah is told to text Sylvia for advice on hiking trails. But she is given Luke's number instead. So she is flirting with Text message Guy and fighting her attraction to the rude guy. That's way more plot than I wanted to discuss. The is a sweet, clean, small town romance with great characters who have past issues to work through. This book grabbed my interest in the first chapter. Then I had to finish it immediately!
