The last of her line, a faerie princess prepares to take the throne. But multiple forces plot against her, some trusted friends…

After losing her brothers, Titania studied and trained to rule Aubren. But she hadn’t planned on becoming Queen at fifteen. Now with her reign challenged from within the castle walls, she must decide what is best for her kingdom. Should another rule in her stead? Or has fate led her to this moment?

Only she can decide a path that becomes littered with choices. Will a marriage shore up her reign? Could naming a successor be enough? And what of the creatures of the deep and a tale of one who can end all evil? Faced with a choice to aid beings of Upper Earth, she must weigh whether to believe her inner compass and face charges of treason. Accepting the edicts of the High Council may be a safer route, but is it the best choice for the realm?

Titania’s emerging power lies just beyond her reach. Will it manifest when she most needs it? Or do they face an eternity in darkness?

To be a Fae Queen is the first book in the Realm Chronicles series, beginning a magical journey into the realm of Middle Earth. If you like fearless heroines, you’ll love Tricia Copeland’s thrilling fantasy.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This light yet riveting read embraces a true young-adult writing style and a leading plot in which Titania, a 15-year-old fae, has to embrace responsibility as a queen. This series has a whole gamut of fantasy beings in a whimsical world, with a coming-of-age story of a head-strong young woman with relatable ticks who faces tension in all kinds of relationships. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator was fantastic." - L.B. Carter, fantasy author

From the Author

To be a Fae Queen is a book that snuck up on me. I usually plan my novels out and think about them for months, coming up with characters and plot before ever putting words on a page. But this book was different. First, I never intended to write a story about faeries. I had the opportunity to write in an anthology and the image on the anthology ad was a beautiful female faerie that I couldn't get out of my head. And the character of Titania was born in that image. Second, the anthology didn't accept my story. There were rigid guidelines. The story had to be about a fantasy character with a mental illness, hence Titania's anxiety/panic attacks early in the story. But not one to waste a story, I sent it to my subscriber list, first titled Titania of the Faye and later Titania Rises, and used it as a reader magnet. Third, not one to drop a character into nothingness, I included Titania in Kingdom of War. If you've read the finale to my Kingdom Journals series, you'll remember Hunter searches for a faerie to help him fight Sonia and finds Titania in the forest of Australia. Fourth, I couldn't let Titania or the Kingdom Journals characters go. There is still an evil lurking in Lower Earth and someone needed to resolve that issue. Enter Titania and her army of faeries. I think I got sidetracked on what this list was about. Still, six, I had a hard time writing in 2020. But I always write for NaNoWriMo (November, National Novel Writing Month) and set a goal of getting 50k into Titania's story. Still, I had no plot or character list save Titania, her mother and father, Alfreda, Foster (the love interest), and a few generals and advisors. But I started writing anyway. Just put words to page, what would happen next, what would happen after that, etc. But I still had no real plot, no bad guy until half way through November when a villain started to appear. But I don't want to spoil the story for you, so I'll stop here. To be a Fae Queen turned out to be my longest book yet at 108k words and I love these characters so much the book is the first in my new Realm Chronicles series, the second of which, To be a Fae Guardian, is now available. Also available in audiobook format.

A new take on some old story

A new take on some old story
To Be a Fae Queen by Tricia Copeland is a very interesting take on the faerie stories, though I was not expecting the story to be about a Titania and Oberon that were not THE Titania and Oberon that end up ruling over the Seelie court together. The pacing at times felt a bit awkward, there would be an event that would happen but would not get talked about and I would have to go back to see if they had even finished the event or if it was going to be continued later. Other than that, I did really enjoy the story of Titania coming into her own power and faith of herself as she deals with anxiety and having lost most of her family, it can be seen in a very inspiring way. It was also very fun to see it bring in witches and vampires into the storyline to bring those genres together. I do always enjoy watching characters go from one type of life and must adjust into another type of life very suddenly. This is recommended if you enjoy anything faerie related.

I'm fairly new to paranormal. I have been an avid reader for years, but I am just now diving into Paranormal. This book makes me wish I had done it a whole lot sooner! It's fast paced. Keeps you hooked and never want to put it down! I can not wait to dive into this series further and see what happens! Is Queen Titania the One??? 😉🙌😘

I had a little trouble getting into the story but that was probably just because I have been reading crime lately. As I was deciding if I liked it or not, I realized I was too invested in the characters and their fates. This, alone, tells me I liked it a lot! I think I'll need to read this authors other books while I wait for more in this series.

This story presents an interesting perspective of Fae society and what would happen if a teenage fae was crowned queen. The challenges with finding true guidance and friendship are highlighted throughout the story. Very enjoyable read.

The 1st person present tense storytelling style did not engage me - I prefer my books in 3rd person, tbh. I had hard time getting into the story and just could ot relate to the FMC - the 1st person present tense really got in the way - this annoyed me to no end and I’ve never really realized this until now. I did like that the fact there was never a fae queen before affected the FMC’s appearance - freckles turning green, indeed. Loved the chapter title art, but could seriously not get engaged with the story. Too much teen sulks, too much daily mundane descriptions but ehat disengaged me most was emotionless dialogue.

15yo Titania’s four brothers have been slain, her mother catatonic and kingdom under threat from the kobold who are stealing crystals that make up the magis fae circles - and right from under their noses, too. When wounded Oberon makes Titania Queen she has to fight to keep her title as some council can decide against female monarchy & she finds she is being set up for treason. Next, enter seraphs and vampires and her maid still scolding the queen “child” - aaaand I just lost interest - skimmed til the last page to find out how it ends. Objections to female fae queens goes against everything I know and love in fae lore where fae queens have always been powerful and their right to rule unquestioned. Also, why would a king cede power to his 15yo - sure she’s fearless and can shoot arrows on mark for 13 hours straight, but she has never been groomed to take the title - that was just illogical.

Just not my kinda book, but if you like 1st person present tense YA fae girl coming into her queenship stories, you might like this.

I am in love with this book! This is my third time reading this story.
When Princess Titania is crowned Queen by her father at the ripe age of 15 going on 16 she is not sure what to do. Her main focus is learning more about the Kobold, finding them and defeating them once and for all. But this isn't an easy task as she is a teenager and struggles with being one and new found Queen of Aubren she has duties to do as Queen. But as a teenager she is also facing things normal teenage girls face, boys! How can she be Queen, save Aubren and deal with boys all at the same time? Titania is a fierce fae and nothing will stand in her way! Watch out Fae Realm there is a new Queen and she will be tested and she will push the limits!

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling and magical adventure. Long live Titania, Queen of the Fae!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 15, 2021
Titania was never meant to be a Queen. The throne should have passed to her beloved brothers, but they were lost in battle with the terrifying Kobold, leaving her as last of the line.

At the age of 15, Titania suddenly finds herself having the crown thrust upon her. At first she is hesitant but resolves to accept her fate, only to have to fight to prove her worth. However, a greater fight is yet to come when the Kobold try, once more, to take over her country of Arden.

In Titania we have a truly likeable and feisty heroine who has to grow up fast when her people need her. She has to show herself capable and worthy of her title, against many odds.

A thrilling adventure full of excitement and danger, with some romance along the way. Some great characters surrounding Titania and her world who can also be found in the author’s series The Kingdom Journals.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and became engrossed in Tricia Copeland’s magical world of the Fae in Middle Earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Epic fantasy!

To Be A Fae Queen is the first book in the Realm Chronicles by Tricia Copeland. Having read quite a few of Ms. Copelands books, I can always count on her to provide an engrossing read, and this story was no exception.
It is a little different from the other books of Tricia Copeland’s that I have read, in that this is an epic fantasy adventure, with faeries, magic, action, mystery, drama, challenges, deceit, lies, danger, good vs evil, self-discovery, coming of age, and fantastic world building. I was swept up into this adventure and loved every moment.
Titania is a great character, well-crafted, and with the presence, strength, and complexities I would have expected from a much older character. It was easy to forget, at times, that she is only a teenager. The secondary characters were given just as much attention and development and definitely added to the story.
Being handed the crown of the realm at only 15 years old was just the beginning of Titania’s epic adventure. She is going to have to embrace all her training if she is to overcome the many obstacles stacked against her, as well as figuring out who she can trust along the way- what ensues makes for a captivating story.
    Bring on Book #2!

    Thank you, Tricia Copeland!
