4.4 out of 5 stars 3,236 ratings

Marriage? It can be absolute murder

Wedding planner for the rich and famous, Felicity Philips is aiming to land the biggest gig of her life – the next royal wedding. But there are a few obstacles in her way …

… not least of which is a dead body the police believe she is responsible for murdering. Out of custody, but under suspicion, her rivals are lining up to ruin her name. With so much on the line, she needs to prove it wasn’t her and fast. But that means finding out who the real killer is …

… without said killer finding out what she is up to.

With Buster the bulldog as her protector and Amber the ragdoll cat providing sartorial wit – mostly aimed at the dog - Felicity is turning sleuth. What does a wedding planner know about solving a crime?

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing. Get ready for a wild ride!

When Steve Higgs writes, he really hits it right out of the park. I find myself laughing out loud and often!’

Editorial Reviews

Review

"For anyone who enjoys lighthearted murder mysteries and animals. Several laugh out loud moments. Certainly a new twist for me. I'm looking forward to reading the series."

"This is the 3rd series of Steve Higgs' novels that I've read I've read and it didn't disappoint. His writing combines wit, innocence and humour and takes the reader on the adventures with the characters. A pleasurable way to spend a dark, cold winter afternoon. Keep on writing Steve and I'll keep buying your books."

"Brilliant first book couldn't put it down but as usual a good mixture of fun and laughter love the idea of the animals helping to solve the case."

About the Author

At school, the author was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, he won his first award. However, calling it his first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, he is having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and claims to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in his head as they clamour to get out. He lives in the south-east corner of England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

Brilliantly funny and good light hearted escapism. Well written, could imagine this as a TV serial. Not a book I would have picked up on only for it being our latest Book CLub choice. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Steve Higgs has done it again - this time with a new "heroine" and her two pets = bulldog and cat.
As usual, the reader gets drawn into the action right from the start, enjoying the quirky pet relationship and
wondering about the outcome. Thrilling it may be but never to the point of hair-raisingly violent or bloody.
So the book works also as a bedtime read without giving you nightmares...
Thoroughly enjoyable - looking forward to the next volumes.
