For some reason, I can’t recall reading a book with a dancer as the main character, and if this book is any indication, I’ve really been missing out! Shockingly, this is my first Gravity book, as well as my first from this writer, and with this fresh premise, riveting storyline and electric characters I easily have another amazing, new-to-me talent whose work earns a prime real estate spot on my bookshelf.
Let’s not take up space here with me giving you a synopsis, because that blurb is pure perfection. It gives the reader the general idea of the story without revealing too much but leaving the impression that there is a lot to look forward to. And boy howdy, there is A LOT. Drama, tension, anger, frustration, and a boatload of angst.
Then there's the relationship between Kai and Sebastian. The push and pull between these two is more like a wrenching and shoving wrestling match, and their chemistry is so powerfully charged that the sparks fly off the page. And here’s a sign of a truly talented wordsmith – when the conflict between the characters reads as authentic and fitting to the character rather than annoying and immature, and it's all perfectly done here.
I’m not sure the last time I read characters that were as complex, authentic and larger than life as Kai and Sebastian are. Each is strong and confident but with an underlying vulnerability that makes them even more human and endearing. Sebastian's irreverent arrogance is met by Kei’s feisty determination and propensity for doing the unexpected, and watching their dance is the best kind of entertainment.
Don’t think for a minute that this story is lacking in the other components we love in our romance: steam and heart. This one's steam level is close to incendiary and it has enough heart to sink the Titanic. It was surprising yet satisfying to see a lot of that emotion and heart coming from the irreverent bad boy, himself. He needed a bit of redeeming, and wow, did he deliver!
If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to read, this book is for you. If you like your romance with tension of every kind, you'll love this story. If you love a strong confident heroine and a cheeky bad boy with a heart of gold, you'll fall nose over toes for Kai and Sebastian. The Trouble with Gravity is hands down one of my favorite reads from KK Allen ever—and the best in the Gravity Series (IMO). I’ve always loved grabbing a book from KK Allen because she writes beautifully, but her stories are also moving and realistic, even if they are fiction… and The Trouble with Gravity was all that and so much more! From the moment I started reading, I was glued to my seat! KK Allen delivered a beautifully written romance that is angsty, sexy 😉, witty and sweet. I swooned big time for these characters and the plot was wonderfully entertaining. I loved the realism and depth of character in this particular story and find KK Allen is a master at delivering strong heroines and heroes who make you hot under the collar! Kia was an amazing heroine!!! She showed strength and beauty, grace and stubbornness with equal measure. And while her backstory broke my heart, her drive to overcome the obstacles in her past made her absolutely outstanding. And Sebastian?! Jesus, I needed a hero just like him in my life. KK couldn’t have written a more perfect counterpart for this wildly beautiful sports/contemporary romance! The chemistry between this pair is damn near tangible and it made for a delicious, slow-burn romance which I can’t wait to read again… and again… If you do nothing else, BUY THIS BOOK!!! You’ll be starting a guaranteed five-star read and thanking those of us who insisted you pick it up immediately. And it was worth every tortured second. ...We were both breathing heavily, and I knew it wasn’t just my music she’d breathed life into. She’d breathed life into me too. He was mysterious, and I couldn’t ignore the force he had over me, a pull he clearly felt too. That was the trouble with gravity. It couldn’t be stopped. It couldn’t be ignored. I was completely at its mercy, even when the one thing I felt myself gravitating toward refused to let me in. In this case, that one thing was Sebastian. He kissed me like he was a gambler unafraid to go all in, moving slowly at first, as if not wanting to give away his confidence before blinding me with it.
