Trusting Jack (MC Securities Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 372 ratings

With only a few days to go until Christmas, Michael Cross has to admit there is something amiss about his latest employee, Jack Whelan. Quiet, jumpy, thin… he never seems to eat. He is also incredibly gorgeous with dark spiky hair that Michael aches to touch. But as his boss, Jack is off limits. And when it comes to relationships, he…well, he sucks.

Jack Whelan is at the end of his tether. He’s living rough in the middle of winter, and paying off a massive debt, so getting a job with MC Securities is a lifeline. His new boss is also the hottest guy ever. Geeky, broody, and scarily clever.

When Michael stumbles upon the reality of Jack’s life, he offers to help. But as Michael’s feelings deepen, and Jack’s terrible past catches up with him, Michael has to decide between believing in the awful truth that is staring him in the face, or trusting Jack.

My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!

Homeless Jack is rescued in more ways than one by his boss Michael and falls in love. A well-written tale with likable characters and an interesting enough premise with a bit of dangerous but no surprises. A good read.

I can’t even begin to explain the rabbit hole I found myself in when I discovered this author and this book. It involved lot of clicking and some stalking and now here I am....and I’m not disappointed! This book encompasses a lot of what I like in the M/M genre—a quick afternoon read with good, like-able characters, a great plot, low-angst (hallelujah), and some smexy man-on-man loving. AND, to top it all off, the ending eludes to another book in the series having the “cousins” trope?! Sign me the eff up. I can’t fathom how I haven’t heard of Ms. Moone before as the majority of books I read and review are M/M—is she new? Did she fall out of book heaven just for me? In the grand scheme of things, I really don’t have time to get wrapped up in a new author’s works...but I can’t exactly turn away now, can I? Onward!

Despite the implied seedy undertones, this was actually a sweet and light read. It focuses on Michael and Jack, both who have trust issues and relationship baggage due to events in their past. Neither believe they are truly desirable, or have anything to offer a partner. The book sees Michael save Jack, his new employee, from a precarious situation, and then the two of them working to control their feelings for each as they deal with the situation Jack has found himself in.

The characters are likeable and the storyline was pretty straight forward but had a few plot holes. There wasn't much to do with the Security firm despite the series name - in fact, a lot of the scenes skipped their work day entirely and focused on before and after work only. The situation with the supposed bad guys seemed too contrived at times, especially when the connection with Michael's business partner was known. Why they had to rush handing over that amount of money when Christian was working in getting them an answer - and why they had nothing on Bryce when Michael is meant to be this cyber security expert taking his company international - had me question the storyline a bit at that point.

Michael is very trusting and that naivete came across as endearing. His awkward bumbling when trying to explain himself added to his cute appeal. Jack had an innocence to him as well, despite everything he had been through. Together they were sweet. This was very much an insta-love book despite their initial reticence towards the other. Within a week they were professing love and moving in with each other.

I was a little disappointed that the story wrapped up where it did - right after Christmas. The whole book Michael had been adamant they couldn't get involved because "I'm still your boss", yet that was never adequately addressed or closed out in the end. He only mentioned that Jack might like to look for a more suitable job for his skill set as a graphic designer (that was a surprise given he hid his degree in order to get the job - let's not dive down the rabbit hole that is that particular plot point). It was too conveniently wrapped up for how big a deal it had been for the rest of the book.

So not a bad read, but just missing some depth, proper closure and filling of those plot holes.

A very British feel, with a very reserved Michael falling for Jack, living his crappy life with a stiff upper lip until Michael throws him a lifeline. It’s really insta-love but mostly works as they’ve been pining from afar for a couple of months. Some suspense added interest. Enjoyable.

Jack is hired to work at MC Securities and the immediate attraction he feels towards his boss, Michael, is hard to describe. He isn't aware that Michael is equally captivated by Jack.
When Michael offers him a ride home on a typical raining December night, he doesn't just find out where he lives, but discovers that he is in trouble.

It only takes a few hours for their situation to change... for Jack to fill all the empty corners Michael has tried to become used to... and for Jack to learn to trust again.

Now will this trust be enough to save them both?

A sweet romantic mystery with a lovely HEA!

Ruby Moone is a new author for me. When I read the blurb I wasn't to sure about this story, but now I am a believer :) After the first chapter I couldn't stop reading. It really grabbed me and I just had to finish it. I especially loved how Jack and Michael developed throughout the story and the McCafferty cousins that made sure the story didn't get too sappy.

This is a pleasant holiday story. I liked that the characters communicated instead of the common trope of misunderstanding driving a plot. My rating would have been higher except for rampant grammatical and punctuation problems, and the too-easy resolution with the villain. If you're looking for a fluffy story, this is a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas MM romance, homeless to home

Jack gets a job with Michael's security firm in the admin section, but the boss doesn't know he's living rough hiding out in an abandoned building paying off a debt to a loan shark that isn't even his debt.
After a woman in the office says something to Michael, he follows him and drags him back to his own flat to sleep on the sofa whilst he figures out what's going on.
That's where it all starts, with mutual attraction but the many issues Jack has which make him think he should pay Michael in kind.
It's an age gap, sweet, funny and sexy romance with some darker themes and violence.
    An excellent series starter.

Michael was s relatable. Awkward and bad at conversation, he was, well, me. I loved how Jack rolled with it most of the times. The story itself was super sweet and charming.

Interesting plot line to this Christmas story, something slightly out of the ordinary. If course, you don't have to be all sweet and fluffy to get your happy ever after. And if the next story is based on the Christmas night visit teaser, I can't wait to read it.

I think the people who gave bad reviews need to remember that this is FICTIONAL!
Ok, so a few things didn’t add up but so what?
It’s a lovely story, with likeable characters. What’s not to like?
It is what it is. A well written sweet romance.
    Loved it
