4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 672 ratings

It’s a world gone mad. The Alphas are out of control.

When you discover you’re not who you thought you were, the nightmare begins.

KRIS

At age eighteen, life as he knows it is over for Kris. A secret to his nature he was not aware of has been revealed.

Now, kept as a prisoner in a locked room in the mansion of his wealthy father, Kris is at the mercy of Alpha laws and Alpha domination.

Things take a turn for the worse when his own litter mate threatens him, and his father starts behaving strangely around him.

Escape is his only hope. But where can he go in a world that allows him no rights?

THORNE

Marked as a dangerous Alpha, and living a secluded life alone and unloved, Thorne still grieves for the mate whose death he feels responsible for.

Years have passed, and he refuses to even try to function in normal society.

One day he discovers a young man on his property, disheveled, desperate, and scared. He acts like a runaway Omega, but he doesn’t smell like one.

What is this boy? And why does Thorne feel an immediate need to protect him? To bond him? To make him his?

A non-shifter, Omegaverse love story of rescue, first time, fertility issues and an HEA. Standalone read. 65,500 words. (While Omegas are birth-fathers in this universe, there is no on-page mpreg in this book.)

4.5⭐️ what a roller coaster of an emotional ride! Whew. This was intense and beautiful and sexy and scary and dreamy. The world building was fascinating and annoying and atrocious. And yet…sometimes we find where we are meant to be in the worst of places or running from terrible, terrible situations. Well done! I’ll be back for more!

Wendy Rathbone has written another fantastic story, this time in the Omega-verse world.
Kris is a born alpha. He is the golden child of his family. He has been taught all his life that omegas only exist to serve the alpha. They are to be used as companions, for breeding purposes, or for release of sexual pleasure. Omegas have no rights, and are often mistreated.

This story can parallel any current day society where one class is believed to be second class citizens, and those with all the rights, hold the power.

What I like about this story, is the journey of self discovery. Kris's world views get rearranged, and he is forced to think differently about everything he has been taught growing up. His core values come into question, and he must face a new way of thinking about the treatment of omegas.

This is a beautiful love story, told in alternating POVs. It has knotting, family disputes, alienation, redemption, and most importantly, the finding of true love.

No women, totally subservient omegas, a mixed gender boy escapes his depraved family for the next door neighbor, a guy who kept his secret to the last few chapters.

For the most part a well written book, though at times the author got carried away in flowery pros.

If you’ve read a number of ABO books you probably enjoy knotting scenes and this series has a new and fun take on Alpha knots that make the book worth reading.

I won’t read the next book because I don’t like the worthy vs unworthy nature of this Alpha/Omega society but if you do, you’ll probably want yo read the next book after finishing the first.

Another feather in Wendy's cap! This was a more serious read than the others.
In a world of Alphas and Omegas, Kris was shocked to find he was neither.
Raised by an Uber rich, ultimate Alpha dad, one that had held him in the highest regard... The "golden child" as it were, who turned on him once things changed.
Kris and his four brothers were being groomed as Alphas sublime... Wanting for nothing and taught Alphas were far superior than an meager Omega.
In one foul swoop all that changed. Now examination showed he had dormant Omega organs, although they were not functioning. In all other ways, he was Alpha, but now that did not matter. Kept locked away in a gilded cage as it were, Kris's life was now shattered.
Living on the next property was Thorne, a broken Alpha, who by choice had lived alone for many years, declaring himself forbidden fruit, punishing himself for something that was not his fault.
Together they became fierce friends at first, both wanting more. Feelings grew quickly, so they bound and determined to have the life they wanted together.
Their story just shows how society can be when people are not informed and are prejudiced against the unknown, how the world can turn on you, just be being misinformed. Ignorance and intolerance are such a sad arsenal.
Lucky for us, these brave men persevered.

This didn't need to be an Alpha/Omega book. It could've been contemporary, anything with an overpowering self-absorbed father, who teaches his three sons how they are superior to other people.
Well, here it goes. Kris's father is an unmated Alpha, raising his five sons, that still live with him, to be perfect Alphas. He rules with a strong hand and controls their every moves. But then something comes to light that turns his favourite son into nothing more than an Omega, legally. He's trying to hide the "shame of the family" by locking Kris away in his room. When his father and one of his litter mates attack Kris and blame it on the "burn" they're going through Kris sees no other way than flee the house he was raised in.
I found the labelling archaic and it felt like Kris was standing for people who never fit into one category. I also didn't like Kris's father very much, as he was being fuelled by the need of a
clean reputation. Everything he did was for his pleasure, his name, his property. And that's how he saw Kris, a thing to own. He can't make his mind up whether his son is an Omega or an Alpha. It's an annoying trait and I seriously loved how he was made a peck shorter by Kris's rescuer Thorne.
Thorne I liked. He lives by himself, has a routine, cares for the refugee he finds in his shed. He can cook and he wants to protect his mate. He is a bit stubborn at the end, but Kris has the right arguments to change Thorne's mind.

I absolutely love the world building in this book. It's like nothing I've ever read before and it's fantastic. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and the storyline was compelling. I picked it up because Wendy was doing a promo for her third book of this series and it looked so good that I had to start at the beginning. As soon as I submit this review I'm off to start book 2.

Overall I enjoyed the story. There were some difficult moments at the beginning that made me uncomfortable, but as a whole it was good. I liked Kris and Thorne as characters and I found the world building to be interesting. The idea that a person can be alpha with omega characteristics and organs seemed to follow the idea of intersex folx in our world.

I will read the next book in the series.

First time I have read this author even though I have lots of her books. This book is from the Mpreg genre but no babies are included. This is the story of Kris and his rescuer neighbour Thorne. Such a beautiful story, Kris does not fit into the boxes of Alpha or Omega, this story is of his discovery and being true to himself. Thorne has his own demons to beat as well. I really enjoyed this book.

This book held me spellbound from the very start! The worldbuiding was just superb - I have never read an Alpha/Omega book like this! Kris and Thorne are both amazing MCs, and the alternating POV really helped build their depth and for us to see their motivations and experience their emotions. Both have unique voices and held their personality right to the very end. I didn't want to put this book down, and I didn't want it to end.

This is my first book by this author and I definitely won't be my last. I can't wait to read more of their series, and of her other works as well.

Definitely a book I would recommend!

I love stories that are edged with a little darkness. Where cruelty is part of the plot. But at the same time characters find love and someone who will fight for them. Throw in bonded mates, knotting and MPREG and I'm one happy bunny. (Although there isn't any pregnancy in this book) I really hope Mathias gets a story, I love redeeming characters.
Cracking story written beautifully by a cracking author.

What an interesting concept of the omegaverse... His dad was an a hole I swear I got so stressed with the situation that I almost gave up on the book! I am glad that I didn't loved the relationship between the main characters and the love they shared.
