The Truth As He Knows It: (Perspectives #1) Kindle Edition
Officer Noel Carlson isn’t out to anyone in small-town Stratton, Pennsylvania, only to distant friends and family, so a relationship is out of the question. That doesn’t stop him from wanting one, though.
When a night-shift call brings him face to thonged butt with a hired stripper whose girl-party gig went terribly wrong, Noel takes pity on the guy and lets him go. But he can’t get the encounter out of his mind.
Shane has big-time debts to repay, especially to the brother who sacrificed nearly everything for him. His two jobs, in a deli and as a stripper, leave him no time for a social life. But a non-date of hot sex and takeout food with Noel? He can squeeze that in.
The bond they form is stronger than either expected or wanted. Especially since the step Shane’s about to take to put his brother—and his soul—back in the black isn’t quite legal. And he never calculated just how much his determination to make things right will cost him in the end.

Bio and photo from Goodreads.
A.M. Arthur was born and raised in the same kind of small town that she likes to write about, a stone's throw from both beach resorts and generational farmland. She's been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long, in a losing battle to make the fictional voices stop. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance hadn't been coined yet back then) with her later discovery of and subsequent love affair with m/m romance stories. A.M. Arthur's work is available from Carina Press, Briggs-King Books and SMP Swerve.
When not exorcising the voices in her head, she toils away in a retail job that tests her patience and gives her lots of story fodder. She can also be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2015I’ve yet to read one of A.M. Arthur’s books that I didn’t like. No Such Thing was my first M/M romance, and it holds a special place in my reader heart for that reason – and because it was a great story. Since then, I've read each new release from Arthur and thoroughly enjoyed each one.
But as good as her previous books were, none compare to The Truth As He Knows It! Hands down, this is my favorite book of hers, and a top pick for 2015.
I’ll try not to gush and rave, but I can’t make any promises. This book was just THAT GOOD. I’m not the only one that thinks so; last month I had TWO conversations with two different readers about how amazing TTAHKI is. Always a good sign, people!
I will say this: TTAHKI may not be for everyone. It’s an angst-y read, with drama and secrets. Some readers may not like that.
I, however, loved every f***ing minute of it, and I couldn't get enough, even as my gut was twisted into knots from the story being told. Their story hurts, but in the best possible way. To some it may seem "overly dramatic" but I would disagree. Everything that happened to these boys seems very real. Life can be s***y, it can be messy, so why shouldn't it be that way in books, too?
Shane and Noel have such deep pasts, and just when you think everything from their past (Shane’s in particular) has been told, another layer is revealed. These two sexy man – gah, they left my heart aching for them! I won’t spoil anything, but trust me when I say you will want to give both Shane and Noel big hugs of comfort . . . a perhaps a not-so-innocent kiss.
TTAHKI is so dang emotional, I was teary eyed – no joke! – during one scene, and hurting during a dozen more. Arthur did a good job at tearing my heart out a time or two, yet I loved it, and could no more turn away from the book than refuse to breathe.
I loved this book. LOVED IT. That should be my entire review, because it is the solid truth.
The sex scenes are sexy as hell, and I loved how dirty Shane and Noel were with each other. Arthur’s previous books were sexy, and done well, but this? This was ten times better, and she was able to vividly paint the dirty scenes in a way that left me extremely pleased.
Deep emotions, hot sex, and great characters – The Truth As He Knows It has all that and more. I couldn't read it fast enough, yet I didn't want to finish it because I didn't want to see their story end. No matter what Arthur gives us in the coming years, I know that Shane and Noel’s story will remain firmly in my list of top favorite m/m reads! I've already pre-ordered my own copy to keep, since I will be rereading this amazing romance again and again. I’m dying for the next book, which will be Gabe and Tristan, whom I absolutely adored. October is too far away! I suppose I’ll just have to pester her even more on Twitter until then. For fans of m/m, A.M. Arthur is definitely an author to keep an eye on, and TTAHKI is a must-read!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2015There is something going on in Central Pennsylvania to which everyone should pay attention: The town of Stratton and the city of Harrisburg are loaded with hot gay men who have formed their own support and rescue group. In this book, the first planned in a sort of spin-off series of the brilliant Cost of Repairs series, we find a gorgeous blue collar male stripper and an equally gorgeous cop knocking heads, and hearts, from the start in a tale full of love, hatred, fear, loathing, deception, lying, tragedy, and salvation.
They don't get much better than this.
Shane is the openly gay stripper/dancer who also has a day job in a deli and lives with his brother Rick in a trailer. He is exhausting himself to pay off a mysterious debt they both incurred. Noel is a closeted newbie cop originally from Oklahoma who needs to deal with his sexuality and his infatuation, lust and anger with Shane. Luckily, the only out cop on the Stratton force is Samuel Briggs, who began the Cost of Repairs series and who makes a couple of well-needed appearances in this one.
But the conflicts and dilemmas and astounding (at times) circumstances that line the path of true love for Shane and Noel will keep you turning the pages, tearing your hair out, and wiping a few tears along the way long past the end. The supporting characters, especially Shane's brother and Noel's adoring and adorable Tristan, who is somewhat incapacitated, will also impress you deeply.
And at the end you just know there's a plot afoot for the second book, and whom it might involve, but for now you will just sit back and say, well done, Ms. Arthur, once again!
Reviewer's Note: This book came out almost exactly the same day as Andrew Grey's Backwards. That book takes place in Harrisburg, and one of the major characters is named Tristan. Despite the similarities in setting, and some plot twists, the characters' names and the locales seem to be coincidental. Both books are absolutely terrific--see my review of Mr. Grey's book).
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2023Good plotline. I did get confused often as to who was the main focus of a paragraph, the switch from Noel to Shane was done too quickly.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2016Oh my lord, these men will wrap around your heart and never let go ! I'll remember these guys forever. Shane is 24, brown hair and eyes, a deli worker, but strips, etc. to help pay of medical bills. Noel is the golden-haired cop who rescues Shane in the beginning of this deep novel. Be prepared dear reader, get comfy, and have three hankies ! We get strong, beautiful, enduring characters. This is an intense dark tale of anxiety, tension, and love, because there are the secrets, the palpable frustration of a damaged memory, the failing health concern of another, and the internal struggle of good vs. bad, all of which keep us on the edge of our seats throughout. Remarkably written with passion, detail, and heart. I felt the only times I relaxed were during the amazingly erotic, powerful M/M sex scenes.. This is wonderful, yet complicated. Tearful yet heartwarming, for the amount these people endured. Our characters are magnificent in their strength, undaunted by every new roadblock, and they move forward, time after time.
I highly recommend this full-bodied A.M. Arthur story. E N J O Y !!!

(SPOILER: yes, there is abuse described and the violence that ensued, a stripper is roofied held captive, and there is a fine line to define cheating here. Plus a gay bashing/beating described.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy hell
I absolutely loved this book. I have only ever cried at one other book and that was Always by Kindle Alexander but man I was sobbing at 8am on a Saturday morning with this one. I love Shane and Noel. Both men have horrific pasts and my heart broke for the both of them. Two souls like these are destined to be together and boy when they are together they burn up the sheets. Some may think Noel of a pushover me I see him as someone not willing to let go of a connection he's never felt and can see potential in the other. Yes what Shane did was wrong but to be honest when you read the book you will see why and you'll feel the way I did when he finally opens his heart to Noel - devastated! I love the friendship with Noel and Tristan and I hope we see me of him along with Gabe, now there is a potential relationship - fingers crossed. This is my first book by this author and I will defo be reading more. There are a few spelling errors, misworded words but this in no way ruined the book or story for me. I hope this isn't the last we've seen of Shane and Noel! Absolutely loved it and highly recommend

3.0 out of 5 stars

3.0 out of 5 stars Occasione persa
Consigliato come freebie o a 0.99 massimo.
