About the author

I qualified from medical school in 2004 and have since then passionately pursued a career in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. After many years of exams, night shifts and hours scrubbed under the operating lights, I have now completed my higher surgical training.
I am very committed to medicine and surgery in the developing world. I have worked in my short career in South Africa for one year as well as volunteering as a medic for a number of weeks in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake and Pakistani floods, both in 2010. I have also worked for 6 months at a charity surgical centre in Cambodia in 2013 and I have recently taught orthopaedic surgery in Ethiopia.
I hope to continue this work in the future by working with, and developing trauma services for those in the world less privileged than I have been.
Throughout my travels, I have been incredibly blessed to meet a wonderful array of inspiring, talented and beautiful people that have allowed me to maintain my belief in the underlying and everlasting goodness of the human heart. I hope my ramblings somehow reflect this belief.
Why I write:
I write to release the words trapped between my head and heart, those words that make me laugh, cry and choke simultaneously. In the quietest times, in the most joyous times and in the saddest times, I would curl into my corner and write to be free.
These writings are for me and myself. There was never an intention to share, to display or to publish. However, I was, once-upon-a-time, convinced to display my words. Although I fear criticism more than I seek praise, I have been inspired by the clapping of love and the inner peace it brings, to share my writings outwardly. For the first time in my life, I have found a freedom within my spirit to let my words float gently into the air in a giant, multicoloured, heart-shaped hot air balloon.
I have always believed that the power of words can change the world, and so maybe with this new found belief, they can - one single character at a time. Maybe, on a quiet day, if you have the time, look to the sky and if we are lucky, my colourful hot air balloon will be floating by.
Thank you for taking the time to read my bio.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2016A mesmerizing, mysterious story you can read in one sitting. It presents an interesting, inspirational way of looking at the feelings we encounter every day, one by one. This book has already had a positive influence on me, and I know I’ll be returning to it again and again. As soon as I finished it, I went back to examine the more than 30 incredible, original drawings. Here’s the one for “when it’s time to say goodbye:”

- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2016I had the pleasure of reading an early version of this short story, as well as the completed copy, and I would recommend it for anyone. It's part short story, part self-help, part mystery. The ideas of white (the good), black (the bad) and the mix of colors and emotions in between feature heavily in this book and closely follow the journey of the protagonist, a young girl making her way through life's ups and downs. One of the best aspects of this book is that anybody reading it can easily picture themself as the main character and feel connected to her and her story, and the short lessons taught throughout are meaningful, while still being vague enough to mean something different to every person who reads it.
It's sweet, nostalgic, and brilliant in its simplicity. A definite must-read!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2016Black and White is a quintessential read for every type of audience. The best part about this short novel was its reach. Anyone could read this piece and relate to it somehow. We’ve all been where the main character has been, and the message is universal as well. The black and white book is comforting, realistic and genuine with advice. We all have the black and white book’s message in the back of outs heads, but seeing it is a nice refresher. The constructive criticism side of this review is better grammar at times and broadening on the woman’s personal life. It was generalized, but there were bits and pieces that we saw her story. Black and White generalizes moments we’ve experienced in life, no matter our characterization of background, personality or culture. I think it’s a great read for anyone to pick up, considering the basis behind the book. I would recommend this find to anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2016The white and black book, the book is something what I have not read in a very long time. The book is written just for you. Yes, this book connects, with each and every reader. The words are extraordinary. Each exquisite word is carefully picked from the enchanting Garden of words. It is more a short novel about ourselves, than the protagonist. It is our journey of life, through the high and low times. The book layout is professional and excellent. I loved this book.Hope this author writes more books like this.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2016The white and black book is an utterly charming short story/self help guide and poetic mix of ideas reminding you of the beauty surrounding you and helping you to change your outlook on life.
It is a mix of genuine, uplifting advice delivered in a unique format of short poems but intermingled with the personal life and struggles of a young woman who every reader can relate to.
However it remains mysterious and enchanting- full of the romanticism any book lover has and wishes to have with their books.
The entire concept with the associated website and blog is a fresh way of looking at how we can share new stories with a wider world and continue a story once you close the back cover...
This is not a deep read despite its content, nor do I believe it was meant to be. It doesn't delve too deeply into the protagonists life except that it inspires you to continue on your own journey of discovery; however I do believe some of the extended version is slightly drawn out in parts and could possibly do with some further editing and proofreading but as a debut from this author it is certainly worth a read and would be a lovely gift for others - I will be ordering a hard copy soon I hope!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2016This is the perfect book to read in one sitting after a long day. The artwork and format is very well done, and the writing is descriptive, engaging and offers unique elements regarding connection between author and reader. As other reviewers have noted, this book doesn't neatly fall into one genre, but if you enjoy the style of authors like Paulo Coelho or Kahlil Gibran, this book is definitely worth checking out.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2016A book that lifts your spirits from start to finish. Written in an innovative style, the combination of prose and verse makes it really enjoyable. This book is addressed to the very essence of your being and leaves you thinking with every passage. I will definitely recommend to my friends and relatives.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2016What a different kind of book! You will not want to miss it! Enjoy, I did. :-)

I can't find the right category to put this book in to. It's very well written and very catchy. I like how the story kept me guessing for what is next. But what makes this book truly different are the short poems, each and every one of them made me smile and some of them I had to share with my friends. I do recommend this book to anyone who just needs a bit of a lift to a spirit and kind life advise from the author ;)
