About the Author

At school, the author was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, he won his first award. However, calling it his first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, he is having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and claims to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in his head as they clamour to get out.He lives in the south-east corner of England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

    Although I am absolutely addicted to his "Albert Smith's Culinary Capers" series and its lovely old gentleman hero plus German Shepherd Rex, I have also found this new "Felicity Philips Investigates" series quite good.
    The female wedding planner and her dog and cat duo are not quite as realistic as Albert Smith, ex police offer and ex police dog (and he does not pretend to have a conversation with his dog) and I am, admittedly, not a fan of bulldogs but I like the tense relation between cat and dog and the story unfolds
    rapidly, taking unexpected turns all the time. Steve Higgs just knows how to keep his readers' attention...

    Very good book, I have been looking for a while. For a cozy mystery where you can get comfortable with the characters and not bore you to death from the first chapter. Liked the not so usual leads Felicity and her ninja niece Mindy. They were fun and proactive and relatable. Not to mention the fact that this investigation includes the help of her trusted sidekicks Amber and Buster and the ability to communicate with them.

    The story is well worked out, easy to visualise and nice cozy read. Which I finished in less than 14 hours quite proud of myself. Congratulations this a good book that I couldn’t put down. Can’t wait to read the others in this series.
