About the author

Michael Andrews is an independent author who worked for nine months on his first novel, called "For the Lost Soul". A supernatural thriller, this story is set to expose the murkier side of life as Angels and Demons battle for the soul of an innocent child.
Bullying plays a role in both his debut novel as well as his second book, a collection of poetry in the self-titled work "The Empty Chair". He has released this in the hope of raising awareness and money for his chosen charity beatbullying.org and it is available in both paperback and on kindle.
Michael switched to his next series of books, called "The Alex Hayden Chronicles". A paranormal series, featuring thousand-year-old, teenage vampire Alex Hayden. "Under A Blood Moon", "The Howling Wind", "The Cauldron of Fire", "Dragonfire" and "Children of the Sun" are now available and complete the series. "Being Alex Hayden" was released in 2021 and is a behind the scenes book about how Michael came up with the ideas for the series, along with a collection of short stories based on the Alex world.
Michael is also a member of a writer's group, and they have five short story anthologies. Their monthly homework assignments have been included in the four Words Don't Come Easy series, while "A Festival of Words" is a compilation of the winning entries in the recent competition run by the group, which also includes a piece of their own work.
In September 2022, Michael ventured into the world of serial killers with his latest release, "The Woodsman," while a horror short story collection called "Supernatural Shivers" is due for release in October ready for Hallowe'en.
Michael has also been published in The Canon's Mouth Magazine, Cathartic Screams by Severance Publishing as well as in The Bully Book complied by Alisha Paige (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00QXST298)

- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2014This is a great book! I’ve never been to Blackpool but I loved the description of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2015Alex is an ancient vampire that previously held a respected and deadly position in his House, but is now in hiding and stuck in the body of a fourteen year old. Murders are taking place and vampires are to blame. There is a plan being enacted and to stop them Alex has to team up with some unexpected individuals.
This book is written from the point of view of the vampire, who is often understandably frustrated with being treated how he looks rather than in keeping with his real age and experience.
This author touches on most known vampire lore- garlic, holy water, stakes, aversion to sunlight, etc. He also adds some interesting new ideas.
This is an enjoyable book that is well paced and not bogged down in back story.
There is a good cliff hanger at the end, which makes me keen to get the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2014I hesitate sometimes when choosing vampire stories, but after I read the first chapter of this one, I knew I was going to love it. The story is told in a modern setting from the vampire's point of view. He's something of an anti-hero with his own guidance system of right and wrong. An ancient vampire with Jedi mind trick abilities, what's not to love? A fascinating character through and through.
With a group of murderers on the loose, the main plot was intriguing and held my focus well. But the flashbacks into Alexander's past were the most intriguing to me. As a fan of historical fiction and fantasy tales of the middle ages, these passages spoke volumes to me. I'd love to read a true prequel, living out the vampire's past.
It gets a little gruesome at parts, so if you're squeamish, you've been warned. I didn't think the violence was over the top. It fit well with the vampire genre. There is also strong language, but it isn't just casually dropped. It's used in the heat of the moment where it belongs.
An action-packed thriller that should appeal to a wide audience, I'd recommend this to readers of fantasy and mystery alike. The action scenes are plentiful and very well written, and they definitely keep the reader glued to the book.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2014Very enjoyable novel! This caught my attention and had my intrest oeaked from the very first page.
Mr. Andrews did a wonderful job of bringing back some of the traditiin vapmpire legdends while adding new and ingresting twist! The idea of the sun walk and the ritual under the blood moon were very intruiging.
Alex is a new vampire ti love. The onld soul in a childs bidy who has lost it all, yet finds a new purpose in life promises a new life of adventure. His kniwledge and slight additude make for a great fast pace read. The autgor has done an amazing job telling us Alex's story, putting together a great plot (as well as setting up inttest for future books), and has a knack fir cbaracter develoment.
Thanks to Michael Andrews for sharing his imagination with the world and I fir one am hooked! Can't wait for the next installment in Alex's adventures.
I would recomend this to anyone who enjoys vampire novels or anytging paranormal, to the who enjoy action, adventure, mystery, and an all around goos fast paced read.

Actual rating: 3.5*.
"Under A Blood Moon" is the first book in The Alex Hayden Chronicles. It is an interesting, modern-day vampire story and I was actually a little surprised at how much I liked it, since I am generally not a huge fan of vampire books. Alex is, although a vampire and not exactly innocent, a likable main character - a centuries-old vampire trapped in the body of a teenage boy. The story is nicely paced - not too fast, but also not too slow - and the few flashbacks in the book were not, as flashbacks can sometimes be, annoying or disruptive; instead, they served to give the reader some more background information on vampires in general or on Alexander, which contributed to my understanding of the vampire race in this series and of Alex' life.
Throughout the story, Alex meets friends, foes, and people (or vampires) who fall somewhere in between. I especially liked the way Alex' relationship with Harry, a police officer, slowly developed into a sort of father-son relationship. Between Harry's son having gone missing a while ago and Alex not having known a father figure for a very long time, they are both missing something. It's nice to see them re-discovering a sense of family in one another and their characters were well-developed. The other characters are interesting as well.
The reason why I did not rate this story higher was mostly the fact that there were quite a few minor things to be found in the book that I noticed and that irked me a little - nothing extreme, but small things such as typing errors or punctuation issues. A few examples:
"I mean, it's not like a proper blood transfusion is it where you have to match to your own?"
It could just be me, but I had to read this sentence a few times; I think it would have read much easier if the "is it" had been placed between commas. I encountered a lot of these types of "mistakes", which is why I'm mentioning them now. Every writer sometimes overlooks things or makes small errors, but these were so frequent that they started irritating me a little after a while.
"Alexander is in not fit state to fly either."
Such typing errors (extra words, words that were omitted, etc.) were also rather frequent - which was a shame, because the story itself really is very good.
Despite this, though, the story is well-structured and interesting to the point where it had me hooked, wanting to read on. The epilogue most definitely makes you want to read the next book in this series. All in all, it was a very nice read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2014It is one of those books that captivates your attention from the starting till end. I have always been a fan of mysteries of our world, one of them being the existence of Vampires hence it was natural for me to be more curious about what the author Michael Andrews has to say in this book, even though this book is a piece of fiction. The story is intriguing and the plot was put together pretty nicely that kept me hooked to the book all the way. Overall I give this book 4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A detective story about vampires
Under a Blood Moon is a detective story about vampires set in the English coastal resort of Blackpool. The main character, Alex, even with his supernatural powers, is believable and the story is well written. It is fast paced and there are enough twists in the plot to keep the reader guessing. It is a good read and I can't wait to get the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Surprise
I really enjoyed this book. It is not the genre I would usually read but I was pleasantly surprised. It was an easy read, light, fast-paced and imaginative. I particularly enjoyed the mix of vampire lore with other fantasy concepts and modern day crime fiction. The characters were unexpectedly engaging and I read quickly wanting to find out what happened to them. I loved the idea that there is an intricate underworld of vampires, vampire hunters and witches just beneath the surface of our ordinary lives. I would recommend it, especially for young adults and plan to read the others in the series when I get through my current reading list. For the genre, I would have given 5 stars were it not for the fact that on occasion it felt a little rushed and some incidents were glossed over a little as the story jumped to the next stage.
Just read this again as I’m going to binge on the whole series to celebrate the release of Dragonfire. Developing a fondness for Alex and hoping that he and Petra might hit it off in the future?
Not my usual genre but I really enjoyed this. Easy to read and good characters. I liked the mix of vampire lore and modern day crime fiction. Also, love the way the world of the supernatural is integrated with ours if you just scratch beneath the surface. I'd recommend this book and look forward to reading the others in the series.
