Untrusting Hearts: A Contemporary New Orleans Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

Following the death of her grandmother, the last of her immediate family, Jade Broussard is overjoyed to discover a long-lost relative in New Orleans. Maylene Broussard-DuBois, an elderly widow, is likewise elated to hear from Jade and invites her to come for a visit. Meeting her new aunt at the airport, Jade is introduced to Gage Pichot, a family friend Maylene has gushed about in their correspondence. Matchmaking is obviously in the air, though the handsome and enigmatic Gage seems an unwilling participant. From the start, he questions Jade’s intentions concerning Maylene’s abundant wealth, and she bristles at his offensive insinuations. His suspicious reluctance keeps their attraction off-kilter even as passion ignites between them and sparks fly. If only Maylene would stop playing Cupid! If only Gage wouldn’t automatically believe the worst about her. If only Jade could resist his aggravating charm...

you will adore Untrusting Hearts. It's not my favorite trope, so I found the back and forth of misunderstandings and miscommunication between hero and heroine frustrating. However, it is a well-written, well edited story with lots of character development. The best part - it reads like a trip to New Orleans, one of my favorite cities. Of course, the heroine is visiting there, but the way the authors weave in fact and sensation really brings this fascinating town to life. I enjoyed it very much. Good read.

Sad beginning leads into Jade visiting a long lost relative that consuls her heart. Maylene is a lovable long lost Aunt and very endearing throughout the story. I enjoyed the interactions between Maylene and Jade.
The chemistry between Jade and Gage is immediate. She is a lovely soul searching for answers and he is a handsome hunk with a great flair for business and well trusted.
The storyline retains a great deal of mystery especially about the handsome Gage which keeps the story intriguing.
Gage's constant distrust of Jade and her motives makes for a rollercoaster relationship between the two. They have many wonderful moments together. My favourites were, visiting the old mansion and their night in Baton Rouge.
There is a lot of charm and elegance in the descriptions of Louisiana. I love the names of the main characters. The colour of Gages eyes described as 'Whiskey' is perfect.
Ty is a real cad and reminds me so much of Wickham in Pride and Prejudice.
The more I read the more involved I became in the characters story. Very enjoyable.

This book had a leg up on other’s I’ve read simply because it was set in one of my favorite settings: New Orleans. The tension between the two main characters keep you wondering if they are really meant for each other; their romance is spicy keeps bringing them together. They are stuck in the middle of her aunt’s matchmaking and her cousin’s devious attempts to tear them apart.

This was a very enjoyable read and I loved the ending.

First of all, any book with New Orleans has my attention. And the author certainly caught the essence of this fabulous city. I love this story. It is full heart and love. The characters are strong and well developed. The plot kept my interest. Great book!
