Urgent Care (Hearts and Health Book 3) Kindle Edition
Xavier James is shocked when he runs into the first man who ever broke his heart. His ex-boyfriend has only gotten sexier over the past decade, but Xavier isn't about to go down that road again. When they cross paths at the hospital's urgent care clinic, where Xavier is doing a student nursing rotation, it's more difficult to dismiss the man. Thrown together by work and forced into close quarters, a visit to memory lane is incredibly tempting.
It's never too late to start over ...
Dr. Trent Cavendish made a huge mistake when he walked away from the love of his life at age 18. When his best friend suddenly dies 12 years later, it rattles Trent into seeing just how empty his life has become. Determined to go back to the moment he put himself on the path to ambition over happiness, he walks away from the OR and takes a temporary position in his hometown. It's time to make amends to the man he left behind.
Oh, how things have changed ...
Instead of the sweet but tame guy he left behind, Trent runs into a smoking-hot Xavier James dressed in bits of lace and silk at a gay nightclub. He never knew he had a fetish for a man in delicate clothing until now. His plan to earn Xavier's forgiveness immediately shifts to lust, and love's not far behind. But Xavier is wary of this new Trent Cavendish. The villain of his memories is considerate and kind, but Xavier wants to be more than a new goal to chase.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024While I had been excited to read Xavier’s story, it took me a few chapter’s to get into it. I think it was because the cover model and 1st chapter didn’t match the image I’d already cultivated for him from the 1st two books. I’d pictured him as a cross between Patrick Mahomes and Eric Berry. Or maybe even exactly like Tony Gonzales (IYKYK). So it was hard for me to get over the discrepancy had really thrown me off. Once I got over it, I was finally free to enjoy the story.
For the record, this is a slower burn than most of Jamison’s books. And as a “(not quite) Enemies to Lovers with Shared History” story, the chemistry between the MCs might seem understated to “newer” readers. All in all, I’d give this a solid B if I were grading this work.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2018So this was the 1st book that i read by this author and let me first say that the story was alright. I didnt love it completely and I think its has to do with how Xavier is show. By no means am i saying that white authors cannot write about black character however, since DJ Jamison is painting Xavier as a strong "BLACK MAN" I feel like she kinda didnt do a good job in that aspect, and this is me speaking as a black person myself.
Issue 1: the racist moment. there is a moment in the book where Xavier experiences a racist moment. My issues that's not really an issue but more like a missed opportunity was in the was Xavier handled the situation. Most black people would rarely exhibit that amount of restraint during an encounter realistically. I would have like to seen some kind of fight in Xavier to indicated to the old man that acting in this manner is not ok. Also, I feel like there should have been at least a couple of pages dedicated to the struggle of being black in the US and how hard it can be dating a black person and having and honest conversation about these things with Trent. Grant it was touched upon but nothing specific. I just felt like is was a missed opportunity to shed some light on the realities of dating a black person.
Issue 2: The Make up wearing and women's clothes. This is the one that turned me off the most and was the determining factor for may rating. Xavier wearing make up was a bit too much in my opinion and I think his character would still be great without him wearing make up. After I did some research on men's lingerie I could get behind that idea because the entire time i was thinking of women's clothes but none the less, in the end Xavier does have a thing for wearing women's clothes. This all ties into the image of "A STRONG BLACK MAN" it seemed contradictory to on one hand DJ Jamison is painting him to be this flamboyant character vs what is described. So again as a black person the images that is said vs the image that is being projected is a contradiction and not necessarily accurate. Everyday gay black men do not go around wearing womens clothes or make up and it all has to do with the culture of hyper masculinity in the black community.
Again i like the book. I thought is was ok. I personally just saw quite a few missed opportunities to make Xavier more lively as a black character. For Example, the use of slang. Nothing crazy, just a few words here and there and the fact that Trent touches Xavier's hair without out asking. THIS IS A HUGE NO NO! in the black community. Our hair is never to be touched without asking. these are just things that i noticed that bothers me but give it a read.

Urgent Care, is a 2nd Chance romance in which success driven Dr. Trent experiences a life changing tragedy that has wanting to right his wrongs and pursue the one that got away, Xavier. I love a DJ Jamison hard pursuit. She writes a character going after what they want so well. Urgent Care also has some spicy lingerie/ femme presentation components that are 🔥. These two battle time and the odds to build the relationship they want. Check out the tropes to see if it sparks your interest and enjoy! 💋

- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2020I loved this DJ Jamison book. I listened to the audiobook. It’s a second chance love affair and the theme of suicide. The MCs were apart 12 years! Wow! And they are still crazy for each other. A sub-theme of manties was also wedges in between, making it a hot affair. One man chasing his lover, and catching him in the end for a HEA. Beautiful. ❤️

- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2024Several issues that can be present in a friendship were brought up in this story. Your dreams at age 18 are not always fulfilling when you get older. In some relationships a period of separation may be the best thing for longevity. In this case, now they have each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2018I’ll say this - Trent won me over. He nearly didn’t. I’m a hard sell when it comes to second chances and the offending hero doesn’t earn his redemption and his spurned partner’s love. I love how Xavier took care of himself and didn’t let Trent have his way and PROVE he’d changed. Just about everything about this book I loved. And how Xavier realized it wasn’t all Trent’s fault how things ended when they were 18.
I adored Xavier and his self-confidence about himself, because as Trent learns (RElearns) about Xavier, he and you, the reader, see how even if they had stuck together, Trent STILL would have had a way to go in changing his assumptions and behavior. He wouldn’t have had to or been able to if he and Xavier hadn’t had their break-up.
So, if you’re the kind who likes redemption and second chance stories, this is one for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2019Best buds in highschool, a bad break splits the lovers. He who left returns a surgeon, while he who stayed is in the last year of nursing school. A rocky reunion full of angst, mistrust, fear ensue. Crises are dealt with as the author crafts a story of finding trust and acknowledging love. The angle of family is an important block in understanding the lead characters. Well plotted, albeit not much geography which might help a coastal reader, the HEA isn't trite, but is believable.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok read
This is the 3rd book in the Hearts and Health series but can be read as a standalone. It’s the story of Xavier and Trent who were boyfriends in high school but broke up when Trent left for university and Xavier couldn’t come with him due to family obligations. Now, many years later, Trent is back in Ashe to make amends and see if he can have another chance with Xavier.
I love the trope and liked the characters but there were a few things missing for me. I wish there had been more of a background on Trent and their shared history before they meet again. I did not get how Trent was not at all surprised when he meets Xavier in a night club and instead of talking to him and trying to bridge the missing years, let alone apologize for his behavior, he immediately invites him for a hook up. Just didn’t resonate with me at all.
I loved Xavier and wanted him to have his happy ever after. I liked Trent as well but found him harder to connect to, I think because there was less of his background.
The two of them were hot together and the scenes well written.
An OK read.

Dr Trent was working at Xavier same urgent care clinc. Trent was a surgeon but opted for a change in his life.
Xavier was deeply hurt back then and now Trent wants to make things right with them again...

4.0 out of 5 stars A slow burn sweet story
I was glad Xander got his story. A low level angst sweet read. The sexual chemistry was there but this is a slow burn waiting for action. It took a while so not an overly steamy book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting and tense book
A true love story with tension and intrigue which does end up well. Such a relief. I'm looking forward to reading her next book. It us amazing that a woman can write such novels. Not that I'm sexist!
