Viv Sang was born in Northwich, Cheshire in the United Kingdom. She trained as a teacher in Manchester and taught in Salford and Heywood in Lancashire before leaving to raise her children. She moved to Fair Oak, near Southampton where she taught Maths until moving to Redhill in Surrey. Here she taught Science, Maths and IT in several Croydon Schools.

She enjoys walking and cycling as well as various crafts such as knitting, crochet,card-making and tatting. She also enjoys going abroad on holiday and looking at historic buildings and stately homes.

She paints as well as writes novels and has begun to post some poetry on her blog http://aspholessaria.wordpress.com/.

Recently she has become involved in volunteer work in a local park that had become very neglected. She contacted a local councillor who found out that the park had been set up by the local council on land given by a local landowner, since deceased. After the initial work, it was handed over to the community to look after. Over the years this fact has been forgotten and so the park was looking neglected. (The council only cuts the grass.) Together with some neighbours, Viv has begun to revamp the park and remove brambles and self-seeded ash trees and done some weeding and re-planting.

She now lives in East Sussex with her husband and enjoys looking after her grandchildren.

She has 10 books to date, all published by Next Chapter. These comprise seven fantasy novels: The Wolf Pack, The Never-Dying Man, and Wolf Moon, all part of The Wolves of Vimar Series. Jovinda and Noli, and The Making of a Mage, part of a series of prequels to The Wolves of Vimar. Elemental Worlds is a 2 book series. The books are The Stones of Earth and Air and The Stones of Fire and Water. She has also written two historical novels, one set in Roman Britain, called Vengeance of a Slave, and the other in Viking Britain, called Jealousy of a Viking. She has also written a recipe book called Viv's Family Recipes.

The pluses: The story is believable and made me want to keep reading. The stage was set without too many props.

The minuses: I think the author uploaded the wrong version. This one contains asides written by a beta reader or editor; many of the sentences don't have spaces between them; some of the words contain spaces where there shouldn't be any. A quick readthrough and reupload would solve those issues.

Bottom line: I intend to buy more books written by V. M. Sang.

Adelbehrd and his family live in the Roman provinces. Their simple life is suddenly turned upside down when Roman soldiers come to exact revenge for a rebellion in which they played no part.

They randomly choose men to be examples. Adelbehrd’s father is crucified. He and his sister are singled out to be sold as slaves because of their blond hair. Torn from their grieving mother, the two terrified children are carted off to a far-off villa to be enslaved.

For many years, their monotonous life continues. One day, Adelbehrd discovers that his sister is about to be sold. A friend tells him about a group of Britons who rescue slaves. Adelbehrd is determined to protect his sister and hatches a plan to escape.
Will they be successful, or will they suffer the dire consequences?

The book appears to be well researched. The plot moves along and keeps the reader’s interest. I would recommend it to those who enjoy history and intriguing characters.

Celtics and Roman Era reading is very interesting. The research involved is endearing. Through time we forget the old and learn new ways about life. This book started off a bit slow for me, but, I continued on and is very interesting story during medieval times. The Author has done an incredible amount of work through history to bring this story together. A very good read and I highly suggest reading.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the author catching my attention right from the beginning, a boy watching his father being crucified and taken as a slave, a character that the reader easily gets taken with. As the story progresses, the detail that goes into the Celts cultures and their existence along the Romans, their contrasting habits, kept me interested to the point that I could not stop reading until I was done. However, the end felt rushed and I wish the last chapters were fleshed out more. Nevertheless, I'm eager to read more from this author

Vengeance of a Slave by V.M. Sang is a riveting story set during the period when Rome controlled Britannia. Follow the trials and tribulations of Adelbhert after he and his sister are taken by the Romans from their mother. They eventually end up as slaves in what is modern-day London. Adelbhert performs a nightly ritual to remind himself of the suffering he and his sister have endured, beginning with the crucifixion of their father. He vows to escape and punish those who have wronged him.

V.M. has created a moving story which will keep you turning the pages to find out how Adelbhert and his sister handle their new life. Experience their sorrow, anguish, and finally hope as they adapt to their changing situation. This is the first novel I've red of V.M.'s and it certainly won't be the last! Well done and highly recommended!

This book is very slow thing's come in a trickle the author is lacking in developing a world that we know the Roman empire but unfortunately does a poor job for not putting together a better outline. The main characters are not developing but are stagnant boring to me .The antagonist is so overwhelming that the story is predictable great story Line but unfortunately I couldn't understand the outlandish situations the author put around them it looks like the author was in a hurry and forgot the plot.I couldn't recommend this book but maybe it's your cup of tea but not I god bless !!

Vengeance of a Slave by V.M. Sang highlights historical atrocities of Romans who snatched away children from their parents to enslave them. Adelbhert is six years old and his sister just four when they are sold to a rich merchant. Adelbhert could never forget the trauma and nurses the desire of wreaking vengeance. Every night before closing his eyes to sleep, he chants: “I hate the Romans…” He keeps repeating the reasons of his hatred and grows up with the resolve to plan his revenge. How far does he trek on this arduous journey? Is he happy with stooping down to their level?

Written in a simple and straight-forward style, the pace of this book is better than usual historical fiction and keeps you captivated with new developments. The characters are realistic and the settings give you a vivid glimpse of those times. Adelbhert grows up into a kind and responsible young man, wins some good friends and learns to handle the challenges of life.

Sang conveys some subtle but profound messages to youngsters: all people are not alike and it is unfair to accuse all the countrymen for the cruelties of few persons. There are some benevolent persons in every community; hatred disturbs our inner peace and leads us into darker alleys. The story ends well and I liked it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Authentic historical fiction but aimed at the wrong readers
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 22, 2023
I enjoyed a fair bit about this book but in some ways it was disappointing. The cover caught my attention and so did the setting – Britain under the Roman occupation, which is not a common historical fiction theme. The author has clearly done a great deal of research into the era and I found the details of life for the characters, either as a Briton or a Roman, interesting and authentic. This attention to detail is the book's strongest point and I learned quite a lot.

I was not immediately pulled in by the first couple of chapters, despite the tragic events for the protagonist. The writing seemed hesitant – perhaps the author was unsure how a six year old would describe seeing his father crucified by invaders. In the early chapters that young child seemed to be given thoughts and ideas way beyond his years. However, after about chapter 3 the story and the prose seemed to flow more smoothly and I became quite invested in the characters. I found the writing style pleasant and undemanding but at times an idea was repeated – presumably in case the reader had not registered the importance of the point. As I continued to read on I felt the writing and the delivery of the themes has been aimed at Young Adult (teenage) readers. Many times the characters set out to do something that was a bit of a challenge and it pretty much fell into place for them, simply because they had set out to do it. This is great for a younger reader who wants things to turn out as they hope, but it makes for a fairly predictable read for more mature people. The ending had a slightly unexpected twist, which was good.

Vengeance Of A Slave is a wholesome coming of age story with themes of good versus bad and the dangers of stereotyping, and would appeal to readers in the 12-18 age group who enjoy historical fiction. There is no offensive language or sexual scenes, and although one character is almost sent to a brothel, the small mention of the topic is dealt with in a factual, non-titillating way. Even though two or three scenes deal with killings – by, or of the military -- none is described in a particularly graphic or detailed way. Despite being in the Amazon category: 'Action & Adventure Romance Fiction', there is virtually no romance, although a couple of the characters do get together. This book will give you an insight into the lives of Britons under the Roman occupation, but if you're a seasoned reader of historical fiction, especially if you also enjoy a little romance, it may leave you just a little underwhelmed. Nevertheless, it's an easy read.

Liked the storyline and characters but would have liked the afterthought (expanded version) to be part of the actual story.
Good to know the novel was written by a fellow Heywood Monkey

I am enjoying the book but every so often is says “ no line break needed as part of the same sentence” so clearly they have left the proof reading comments in there which is very amateurish and interrupts the flow
