American Classic Extreme 55A Drumsticks

An extended version of our popular 5A/5B hybrid, the 55A. For over 30 years, the American Classic drumstick series has been the popular choice of countless drummers. As successful as the American Classic series has been, players throughout the world continue to request longer versions of some popular models. “Extreme” models within the American Classic series each feature an extra 1/2″ of length, providing extra reach and power!

TRADITION AND VIC FIRTH STYLE

The American Classic line combines tradition and Vic Firth style. With bold designs, the Classics are turned from select hickory — a dense wood with little flex for a more pronounced sound. Hickory is also capable of withstanding a great deal of shock, making it highly durable. The tips are deeply back-cut for intensified cymbal response.

More fragile than the “extreme” leads on
Bought 2 pair over the weekend, delivered in a timely manner the following Tuesday (it is amazon after all), 2/4 sticks were broken by Friday. Not sure if it was just a faulty batch or if any of the shipping conditions added to their fragility, but after a couple days of no more than an hour or two of jamming mostly dynamic but not too loud sorta mathy-emo-jazzy-alt-rock-nonsense, one of the pairs is already broken. I’m no stranger to breaking sticks and am a lifelong user of Vic Firth, I’ve played the extreme line many times before and they usually last me at least a few months, but how quickly these let me down just felt wrong.

A member on our worship team suggested these to me. Gotta say his suggestion was right on. They are like a cross between a 5a and a 7a. They are beefier than a 7 so you don't feel like you're going to throw them when playing but they are not super thick that they are too heavy. I play mostly on a Roland kit and they work really well for that. Have not had a chance to play them on an my Pearl acoustic kit. But I would imagine they would work well there too.

Between 5A and 5B with a little extra length. That's the magic formula for me.
The wood tips chip before the stick is actually worn out. I will admit, that could be a technique problem on my part.

    Very durable

These are my favorite sticks right now. I have always like the "Xtreme" Vic Firth sticks. I like the extra length they have. I played X5A and X5AN for a long time after using the X55B and X55BN and noticing the they were a little too loud for hat I needed. The X5A's are great and I always have some on hand for quieter gigs but the "NEW" X55A are the best balanced stick for size and weight. However I have ordered sticks and when I get them they seem way too light weight and feel hollow. That is the only drawback to ordering sticks online.

Love this size drumstick. they have the extra length i love and are thicker then the 5a which i need for durability. i play mixes from rock, punk, pop. so they sticks are great. if your looking for more speed i might stick with the x5a because its not quite as thick but it still has the length.
    hope this helps!
    Happy Drumming!

For whatever reason these model of sticks provide for a unique comfort to hands while executing orchestrated rudiments around the drumset from various grip points from the traditional "fulcrum" to chocked back. Also aids and abets in fuller and deeper rim shots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drum sticks X55A
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 30, 2023
I’ve been through so many different brands and stick sizes. Vic Firth just has that brilliant quality I’m looking for at a price between £10-12. Previous I used a 5A extreme stick, slightly longer than a 5A to give more power and lightweight for quick hands. Although after many gigs being slightly heavy on the hi-hat I found they lasted ok but I needed them to last a little longer. Tried the extreme 5B and found them too heavy and big/thick, so went for the in between stick X55A. Perfect, my go to stick. Still lightweight, more durable and great price. You won’t be disappointed.
