Whisper (Skins Book 2) Kindle Edition
Lonely physiotherapist Harry Foster has the world at his feet. A full client list, a six figure Instagram following, and a publishing deal for a book he doesn’t have time to write until his agent offers him a break—a retreat to the wild south west coast.
Cornish horseman Joe Carter is lonely too. Rescuing horses and managing Whisper Farm takes up most of his days, and by night he plays chicken with the farm’s perilous bank accounts. At his sister’s unwelcome suggestion, he rents his only bedroom to a bloke from the city, and when Harry arrives, he’s everything Joe isn’t—calm, patient, and gorgeous enough to be exactly the kind of distraction Joe doesn’t need.
Harry doesn’t have time for distractions either—even shirtless farmers riding bareback past his bedroom window—but his moody host proves impossible to ignore. On paper, they have nothing in common, but Joe is beautiful…glorious, and when an accident puts his life in Harry’s healing hands, the whisper of true love is inevitable. If the trouble that put the farm on its knees in the first place doesn’t get in the way.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2018This was such a heartfelt story! I really enjoyed it :) It was tender and yet it was also raw in a way. I loved the scenery of the farm, I could understand how it healed both Joe and Harry just being there. I've volunteered for years in a therapeutic farm, I have so many great memories and even the memory of the peacefulness. Harry truly found THE place to sit and write his book.... everything else that happened NEEDED to happen for sure, but the setting was simply beautiful for it, even though there was a lot of "gloom" in the farm, or rather it's current state. But I'm getting ahead of myself..
Harry Foster's life, at least from his Instagram account, looks perfect. He is a successful physiotherapist, he is fully booked and he is even offered to write a book about his knowledge. But he can't seem to find the time or the right mood to actually BE writing, which is why he is offered to take the summer off and MAKE the time to write. His brother finds him a room for rent in a small town in a farm which rescues horses. The pictures looks perfect and so he finds himself living in "Whisper Farm" looking for the person he corresponded with - Emma Carter, only to find first her mother and later her grumpy big brother - Joe who runs the place.
Though the scenery of the farm IS perfect, it's obvious it's in a very problematic state. They can barely hold their head above the water. They are almost at full capacity and horses, donkeys and even goats keeps needing their help. They have a little help from a few school kids and an older worker but it's not enough. Not in income, or rather donations and they don't have enough place or personell to take care of everything the farm needs. Also the fact Emma is dealing with Agoraphobia doesn't help, not to mention the one man who CAN help them - their father Jonah - makes it even harder with the mess he always finds himself and therefore THEY find themselves in.
Yet Joe Carter IS somehow optimistic. He believes they can do it even if he feels he is struggling everyday just to make ends meet. He has given up his old life when his father left and especially when his grandfather died. Though he isn't thrilled of his new "tenant" but the money is good so...
Joe and Harry share a house together. Harry renting the only bedroom in the house (belonging to Joe's grandfather), while Joe's mother and sister live in a different house on the property. Sharing the space makes things different between them. Even though it takes them time to even talk to one another they find themselves connecting and moreover attracted to one another.. Yet before they actually DO something Joe is hurt and Harry can't stay away from Joe's side. Something happened in the weeks they spend together on the farm. Joe is lonely. He wants Harry to stay.. with him.. in the farm.. Yet Harry isn't good at these things, he actually have never had a relationship before. He is haunted by his past and dealing poorly with his strange feelings towards Joe. He might SEEM so put together and perfect, but the outside doesn't reflect everything he isn't putting out there to the world.
Joe and Harry both needs to find a way to actually SAY what's on their mind before the summer is over and with it, their romance. But before the summer is over, a lot more changes on the farm with Harry not only learning to accept parts of himself he put aside as well as help the whole family. It was beautiful, so so beautiful.
HIGHLY recommend this book. It was a bit sad at times, as Garrett is so well known for, yet it wasn't overly angsty it was just a journey both Joe and Harry needed to go through until they were truly ready for one another. I LOVED how it ended, also with a glimpse of the first couple Dylan and Angelo from "Dream" (Harry being Angelo's physiotherapist as well as a close friend). GRAB IT!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2018Harry is a physiotherapist living in London. He has a blog too, and when he gets offered a book deal, he's struggling to juggle everything, and find time to write. So his brother (Rhys) convinces him to go to a retreat and he reluctantly agrees.
Joe has even more on his plate. Managing a farm with his family and a handful of students is tiring, not to mention expensive. They don't have the manpower, nor the place to shelter any more rescued animals (mostly horses) than they already have.
When Harry arrives at the retreat, they don't exactly see eye to eye. Joe is full with resentment, or maybe jealousy for Harry's life. Cause, you see Harry gave up the joys in his life to be able to manage the farm, and it was a great responsibility.
I found that by the time I get to the end of the book I usually forget what I wanted to say at the beginning, so I stopped a few times to write down my thoughts. I know it's unusual, but that's all I got.
My progress:

I thought at first the title was referring to the relationship between man and horses, you know like the movie The Horse Whisperer with Robert Redford.
But now, I think it refers to Joe and Harry's relationship. The moment they met there was a connection between them, they knew what the other was feeling and thinking, they were in sync. Like... their souls already knew each other and were singing the same tune (Deep!) , And because of that connection it felt a bit insta-something. Not love, not even lust, but definitely attraction. And I'm not talking about physical attraction, thought there was that too, but something deeper. Like their souls were drawn to each other. But on the surface Joe disliked Harry until he got to know him better, and realized he isn't the big city boy he first appeared to be. Yes, he's a health-nut and never been on a farm in his life, but he's far from a snob city-dweller.
And okay, the farm's name is Whisper too... but my explanation is nicer! :D

Everything went great, I guess we could call it slow-burn, cause beside some kisses, nothing sexual happened until this point, but when they started messing around in bed... it felt off to me. I was missing something vital, can't say exactly what, but when they were having sex, I didn't feel the same intensity as when they were just shooting longing glances; kissing; and touching each other, while having casual conversations.
Maybe it was that Joe said Harry was dominant in bed, but I didn't see it, I don't think he was. Joe however was submissive compared to his usual brash personality, and Harry attuned to him.
91% The last pages were an excerpt from Dream.
I don't usually like sex scenes cramped into the epilogue, it always seems forced. But this time I didn't mind, cause otherwise there weren't many sexy scenes, and seeing Dylan and Angelo again was great. *wink* And I just checked, Rhys will be in Book 3. :DDDD I wanted to know more about him since Dream. *shrieks*
To sum it up, I liked the chemistry between the men, and it was a great story. I would've liked a bit more background information. Boys with daddy issues could have had a lot more to tell. It didn't blew my mind, but liked it a lot. I suggest you to read Dream first, so you know who Angelo and Rhys are, but it isn't particularly necessary.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2022I wanted to go horseback riding the entire time I was reading this sweet story. Joe’s passion for rescuing horses far made up for his stormy personality. Harry and Joe are the epitome of the grumpy-sunshine trope and total opposites which made them that much more loveable. They both had real issues and struggles in life and I think it makes their story that much more relatable. This sweet story just sucked me in and kept me glued to the couch all day. I was not mad about this at all.
Harry is lonely and struggling to finish his book. He works too much and gives too much of himself to his patients; he needs time away somewhere quiet to meet his deadline. So he rents a place far from the city. Joe’s sister puts the spare room in his house up for rent and it’s taken for the whole summer giving the farm’s finances a much needed boost. They are limping along trying to help as many horses as they can barely making ends meet. Joe and Harry’s worlds collide and as they slowly become friends, they realize there is so much more there between them.
Oh man. Joe and Harry swept me off my feet and I spent a large part of my afternoon in the Cornish countryside. I loved when Joe was hurt, Harry and Joe clung to each other and throughout the story, they both quietly stepped up for each other. I also loved how Joe’s family slowly brought Harry into the fold and gave him the family he needed. All of Garrett Leigh’s guys are flawed and so very loveable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dolcissimi

4.0 out of 5 stars didn’t I read this already?
It felt like I’d already read it under a different name. Still good. Very very slow burn then a rush blink and miss it then slow again. Likeable characters. Hot 🥵. Good. I read it again. Just soo familiar though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ländliche Liebe
