Whitehall Baby: A Surprise Pregnancy Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition
I had a one night stand. And I'm pregnant. I'm such a cliche.
But damn, that Arthur Ellison is sex on legs. The Cabinet Secretary exudes power in those tailored suits with his chiselled jaw and magnetic eyes. Who could blame me, really?
Doesn't make him any less eligible though. He's married to his country. Doesn't have any time for me or this baby.
That doesn't stop me wishing he'd grow a heart big enough for all of us.
Can I, a creative soul, and an analytical mind navigate this pregnancy together?
Time is running out and now the whole country is watching...

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2021It's a great story and I really enjoyed reading it. I like that it's written from both characters POV. The story is relatable and, if you've ever been pregnant, so relatable. So much to like!! However, the fifth star is missing because I felt that for all that Arthur and Charlotte spent talking to themselves and others, they didn't really communicate with each other. Some things were left unsaid/unresolved. It is am overall great book and I look forward to more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2021Favorite Quotes:
The whole place is in darkness apart from pumpkin LED lights which are draped amongst crime tape. Well, she definitely went to town. Not that Charlotte didn’t warn me. She said last year they got complaints from the neighbours because their window display was too terrifying for children.
My eyes widen the second I smell it. I thought it would stay in the fake leather maternity leggings longer, sadly not. They’re so tight I imagine them inflating instead. I grab Arthur and drag him away. I have turned into a treacherous beast of a woman and he is never to know.
My eyes widen in horror. It’s the beginning of the end. ‘Ugh, what is that smell?’ He starts coughing… it’s so potent it’s going to kill him. I have no other choice. I turn and run before anyone else has a chance to smell it. Out of the shop and away from the nuclear gas that came out of my arse. I’m sure someone will run to his aid if he is dying. People don’t ignore sexy people struggling.
This is where I kiss goodbye to ever being able to look him in the eye again. It’s my only hope though. I need to get home somehow… Oh god, what has my life come to? I’m a disaster. I get my phone out and write out a text to him. I need you to please go and buy me a new pair of maternity jeans/ leggings and a loose t-shirt. Bring it into the toilet and leave it by the sink with a packet of baby wipes. I also need you to never speak of this again.
My Review:
I smirked and laughed aloud with gleeful snorts and giggled my way through this irreverently amusing romantic comedy. It was a quick and enjoyable read that sparkled with delightfully cheeky levity and flippant humor. Ms. Barnard’s writing was laced with lethal comedy and maternity bodily function mishaps. I don’t generally enjoy pregnancy tales but I was continually engaged by the mischievous and lighthearted wit as well as characters who were improbably endearing and others who were oddly entertaining as the type I love to hate.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2021Whitehall Baby, is an opposites attract, fake relationship romance about Charlotte, an aspiring fashion designer, and Arthur, a powerful government official. The two share a stolen night together and are left with life altering consequences - classic rom-com moments then ensue.
What I Loved:
✨The London Setting - I will forever be a sucker for any rom-com set in the UK. I’ve yet to read a British Romance that didn’t spark some degree of joy for me.
✨Dual Character Points of View - I loved being able to experience the story from both Charlotte and Arthur’s perspectives. The two were such total opposites that it was great being able to hear their respective takes on everything because their thoughts were just so varying.
✨The Humor - Ways to guarantee laughs from me: Make jokes about watching too much true crime and use the occasional classic horror film reference.
✨The Depiction of Pregnancy - I loved how realistic Laura made Charlotte’s pregnancy. Nothing was sugarcoated about it and Laura really made an effort to highlight both the good and the bad of the experience.
This was my first read by Laura Barnard and overall, I enjoyed it. I found the book to be quirky, lighthearted and delightful. What made this a three star read for me though, was the length and pacing of the book. I felt like it was too short (it clocked in at well under 300 pages) and at times it felt rushed. I also wanted more from the ending. The conclusion didn’t give me the feeling of closure that I normally get with a majority of the rom-coms that I read. All this aside, I do intend to read more of Laura’s books so that I can continue to get my regular British Rom-Com fix.
*Note: I was given a free ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 laugh out loud stars!! Charlotte and Arthur are my new favourite couple 😍😍
If you’re in need of a good laugh, and let’s face it most of us do in these present times, make Whitehall Baby your next read, it’ll definitely put a smile on your face. It’s a while since I laughed out loud at a book and this was just the tonic I needed.
I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading, the plot just flowed along. I kept telling myself ‘one more chapter then I’ll put it down’ but I was hooked, totally invested in Charlotte and Arthur. I NEEDED to know what happened next and before I knew I was reading The End.
I love this author’s brand of humour. She has a knack of putting her characters in hilarious situations. What makes her books funnier is that I can often relate to some of those situations personally. And this book was no different.
I thoroughly enjoyed Whitehall Baby and can’t recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two world's collide
Who would have thought that a book, who's male lead was the Cabinet Secretary in Whitehall, could be a sexy read ?
Laura Bernard knew, and she knocked this story out of the park .
They say opposites attract, Arthur and Charlotte most definitely fall under this banner.
Arthur tells Charlotte that he has no time for a relationship, his work is his life .
Charlotte thought he was exaggerating but their one night was just that ..... One night .
But their one night didn't just create lasting memories for Arthur and Charlotte, it created the start of their forever journey .
100% must read

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars – A giggle-gag fest of a romcom!
****4.5 stars!****
What can I say? Laura Barnard has done it again. Arthur and Charlotte’s story is an absolute giggle-fest. I think my sides have just about recovered from all the belly laughing. (Unfit? Moi?!! Guilty... *blushes*)
It is also worth noting that crying with laughter whilst simultaneously gagging is no mean feat, I’ll tell ya! *smirks*. The perils of Charlotte’s pregnancy bowels, eh? Thank goodness for my metaphorical cushion!
In between the bouts of hysterical laughter and tender moments, these two had me tearing my hair out...
Despite Arthur’s intelligence he really is a tad emotionally stunted. You can’t have everything, can you? But then again, aren’t all the best BBFs? *whispers* He may have reserved a spot on my ‘Characters-I’d-climb-like-a-tree’ list.
Charlotte is total bestie material. Down to earth, fun, and quirky, with a heart of gold. Yet, in trying to protect her heart she has a tendency to always think the worst – rightly or wrongly.
So, as you can imagine, my ranting goes without saying along with the liberally sprinkled expletives (check me out being all proper!) as I was getting so frustrated. I think I was wailing at one point, “For the love of all that is holy... talk. To. Each. Other!”
According to my mother aka The Mommy, Charlotte wasn’t the only one in need of a priest. Harrumph! How very dare she? *snorts*
I can see you scratching your head wondering where the other half star rating has gone. *coughs* Well, *blurts* IwantedArthurtogivemethegoodsandsmexyme up. Whaaa? I’m all about the details, lol.
I know, I know – I’m a bad wicked person *giggles*. I’m off before you can chastise me further...

5.0 out of 5 stars LOL read from start to finish... I LOVED IT!
*REVIEWING FOR ROCK HARD ROMANCE*
The blurb clues the reader in to the concept, and as I'm a fan of the Author, I was expecting a LOL read from start to finish, and I was not wrong! Told in DUAL POV's, in the usual writing style, it was hilarious, with mishaps unfolding as Charlotte (31) and Arthur (slightly older 40's) cope with the pregnancy that was the product of their one night stand! Add into that, some drama, emotional moments, misunderstandings, and an Epilogue that tied it all together I couldn't put it down and I LOVED IT!

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun quick easy read
Whitehall Baby - Laura Barnard
🔥🔥🔥
This was a hilarious insight into just how bad pregnancy can change everything - but imagine all that change whilst juggling a new relationship with the Cabinet Secretary who’s never around!!
Take a journey with Charlotte and Arthur as they go from a one night stand to falling in love and realising just how unimportant work is to your happiness when you create a family.
I laughed hard at the oh no pregnancy mishaps (and was reliving some of my own!) and also rolling my eyes at James and wishing Eloise would slap her - the typical best friend who is secretly in love with the guy
If you’re in need of a pick me up quick easy read then this is the book for you! Laura never disappoints
