- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2022I love all of Suki Fleets books. I never want to let the people in her books go, I want more glimpses into their lives. Her people seem real, that’s what amazing insight she has and I’m always sad when the books go and I have to say goodbye to the new friends I’ve made. It was nice for the little glimpse of Remee and Julian.
Thank you for sharing your people with all of us, your readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2023“Wild Summer” is a really good story as shorter stories go. Crash is a lovely character and I’m glad he got a happy ending of his own; he deserved it. And it was so great to see him with Romeo & Julian, to check on them and their hard won HEA.
I’ve read most of Suki’s shorter stories and this one places in the middle on the scale of greatness. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2021Two teenagers from the margins of English society, plotted with a 4 year gap, grow to maturity in London, Essex and Cornwall. Summer, the elder, deals with social services and a difficult keeper while his family is his focus. Christopher, also called Crash, is a product of the foster system , but provides the strength for them to meet the challenges of adulthood. Fleet makes her characters complex, showing their angst and passion in dialog, thoughts and sign language. A revelation to me on the challenges of romance with a deaf amore.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2022This book was noted as a sequel to "This Is Not A Love Story" but it actually revolves around one of the secondary characters from the first book. Romeo and Julian play minor roles in this story. While the first book was harrowing, this story is much less dramatic and heartwrenching. The story is well-written and the characters are very well-developed. This was a "softer" story and I have to admit, after TINALS, I don't think I could have handled another story with such raw, unadulterated looks into teen homelessness. That being said, this tale is still heartrending and filled with angst. There are a few illogical "scratch your head" moments, but nothing that is implausible or inexcusable. Suki Fleet is a wonderful storyteller. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021As usual for this author, this story's protagonists, young and lost but sweet, find, lose, then find each other again. I am not deaf and can't speak to the accuracy of the POV character's disability, but it sure felt real. It's just how Crash is, whereas Summer is the victim of an abuser from before when he and Crash meet. Parts of this story are harsh, but at the core is love and endurance and loyalty. It was also nice to 'visit' two characters from an earlier, much more traumatic (for me) story, too. Yay happily-ever-afters!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2017There is something really amazing about the way Suki Fleet writes and the way her writing resonates with me. No matter what the subject or how light or heavy the story is, I become completely mesmerized by her words, they sing to my soul. Even when elements of her stories aren't working for me, I'm still completely captivated and enchanted.
I'm not really a fan of insta-love and I will super side eye a couple that knows each other for just a couple days before deciding they'll do just about anything for each other, but Suki Fleet makes it work here. Moreover, she makes it work so well that even though I'm thinking, "Woah, no, seriously!?" I'm also like, *sigh* "My heart!" *swoon* and am totally able to accept and embrace Crash and Summer's romance.
I fell in love with Crash in This is Not a Love Story and that love carried over to Wild Summer. He's an extremely likable character and I was thrilled to discover he got his own book. Summer is a beautiful mess! I fell in love with him and his sister too. NGL, getting more of Romeo and Julian was a great bonus but it was Crash and Summer's story that captured my heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2016My only complaint to Suki's "This Is Not a Love Story" was in needed closure to some of the characters introduced. "Wild Summer" had the answers I was looking for. We find out about Pasha and Peter. Beautiful scenes with Romeo and Julian. We learn how Christopher became "Crash" and we learn that Crash's lost love has returned.
Another great escape, not too heavy on the angst, trying to rekindle the spark of love.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2022Sweet follow up to This Is Not a Love Story where Crash gets his happy ending. I loved seeing Romeo and Julian living happily too.

5.0 out of 5 stars She is my favorite author, undoubtedly
By now I'm not sure what to say about Suki Fleet and her books. She is my favorite author, undoubtedly, in the genre, because of the emotions, the hope and the tenderness that her characters wake me. No author makes me happier.
Wild Summer is the continuation of TINALS, I do not really believe that it can be read alone, and while its predecessor, although beautiful, is complicated to read by its load of angst, this one feels like a long epilogue that allows you to see the beloved Romeo and Julian seated while you witness Crash's love story.
Very beautiful, as always. There really is no other way to describe how Suki writes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely sequel ...
I was delighted when I read that Suki Fleet would re-release 'Wild Summer' - and they did not disappoint! This was nothing like the wild ride (emotionally and physically) that 'This is not a love story' has been, as 'major things' do not really happen until showdown or take place off-page. Instead, Crash's inner musings eat up a lot of space. But: I very much appreciated the style of writing (hell, Suki Fleet REALLY knows how to string words together!), the sparks, the flashbacks, the feels, and the story as a whole. I did not even find a typo!!!
On the flip side: (1) the story was a bit too short and some gaps in the narrative could/should have been filled; (2) I would have loved to see Summer interact with Remee and Julian (instead of merely seeing them walking towards it); (3) the changes mentioned in the epilogue could NOT have happened within two months - six months would have been more appropriate; (4) what is the purpose of Tom in this story, apart from the phone number thing? He is mentioned a few more times, but nothing comes of it; (5) I got the distinct feeling that Crash must be older than Summer: him being the younger one only fitted in the beginning (when he did not stand up to Ren), because Summer seems far more like a juvenile, with his insecurities and tearful reaction to almost everything; (6) Ren is a rather stereotypical villain without any other things (like a personality?) to his name, just a blank page with a dot on it - that's a bit too little; (7) I am not a big fan of insta-things, so Crash and Summer falling that hard after a few hours together? I am not wholly convinced!
Nevertheless, I loved this little gem, this novella, that concludes the first book, and I am now off to read another one of 'Suki's Stories'.♡
