Worth the Trouble (Worth Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 49 ratings

The Worth Series Complete Collection by Lyra Evans (Boxed Set Books 1-3) is now available!

Detective Oliver Worth is still new to the whole ‘relationship’ thing. He spends every moment of his free time in Logan’s Court with Connor, then slips over the border to Nimueh’s Court to get back before dawn. It’s exhausting, but it works. After all, Oliver's still closeted, and the Nimueh’s Court Police Department is hardly the most welcoming of places.

Connor Pierce, on the other hand, feels differently. When he asks Oliver to begin a public courting tradition, Oliver panics and runs back to Nimueh’s Court to think things through. The problem is someone has already made the decision for him. Now he’s the butt of every officer’s joke, and his Captain must disclose his relationship to the Commissioner. Oliver’s sure his life can’t get any more messed up.

But when a call comes in asking Oliver to consult on a murder back in Logan’s Court, Oliver is forced to accept the reality that things have only started to fall apart. With Connor mourning and desperate to find the killer, Oliver barely has a chance to deal with his true feelings about going public. Worse, the case has virtually no evidence and no leads. Having no options and the threat of more deaths around the corner, Oliver gives in and calls for a Special Investigator to help. Only the Investigator they send is the last person Oliver wants.

Now Oliver isn’t just dealing with a dangerous murderer, he’s facing a past he’d long-since buried and the slow crumble of his first real relationship in years.
Can Oliver weather the storm of his fears and unresolved feelings to move forward and give Connor what he needs? Or will the past destroy every possibility of Oliver and Connor’s future?

Worth the Trouble is a m/m paranormal romance-mystery featuring Wizards, Werewolves, Fae, scenes of explicit sexual content, no cliffhangers, and a HEA. Due to some scenes of violence and graphic descriptions, this book is not appropriate for readers under 18. This is the second book in the Worth Series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Lyra Evans has been making up stories since she was a kid and writing them down since her best friends informed her that was actually a career. Though plot and fantasy are what drive her worlds, she's got a particular love for M/M romance that she can't quite kick (though who would want to?). She tries her best to mix those three elements in her novels. A lover of books, games, food, and travel, she's always excited to try something new.

Having dispensed with the majority of the character introductions in the first book of the series (Worth a Shot (Worth Series Book 1)), this book has time to tell a great story with a tricky mystery as well. Oliver's mixed emotions toward relationships make sense in the context of his past, which we learn more about here. It's painful to see his world blow up in his face, though I could wish more time would be spent on the repercussions of this.

Instead, it's back over to Logan's Court, submerged in a werewolf culture that Oliver knows little about and struggles to learn on the fly. The tension of the mystery ramps up throughout the book, and in the meantime Connor and Oliver try to sort out where they stand. A big hazard in a story like this is that one part of the story or the other can take over the book. Here, the mystery and relationship development are given a proper amount of weight, as is the interaction between them. As with the first book, I could wish to know more about Connor's past - maybe this will be addressed in the third and final book, Worth the Wait (Worth Series Book 3).

I really enjoy Evans' minor characters here. The inscrutable Donna, the irritating-yet-alluring Sky, and even the border guards are fun and interesting. This helps create a more complex world that draws the reader in. And as before, the intimate times between Oliver and Connor are incredibly sexy. The settings are a bit offbeat, but that definitely kept this reader's interest.

(And again...ugh, that cover. It still has no relation to how I picture the characters, but whatever...)

The mystery wasn't too difficult to figure out, but it was a lot of fun to read and see how things unfolded. I really like the interactions among the wolves and seeing how their society and relationships work. The m/m romance is wonderful, too, of course.

This was a great continuation of book one. There’s another mystery to solve, some bumps in the relationship and Oliver’s past comes calling in the form of his ex, Sky.

Lyra where have you been hiding. You are now in my top ten authors. The worth series has everything I like. It has hot romance, passion, fantasy, werewolves, and magic. I really got into the characters and great plot development. The absolute worst thing is that I don't have any more to read damn it. LOL. I hope there will soon be more.

I really liked the character of Sky, and the overall mystery was quite interesting. The relationship between Connor and Oliver is great, and I really enjoyed seeing more of these two. Super hot chemistry one again! :D

I will say that the ending got a little sappy for me, and there were maybe a few more typos in this book than the previous one, though nothing that really took away from my enjoyment. I do hope that the author continues in the series, though I'd be curious to see how she continues to develop the relationship between Connor and Oliver given the ending.

I have a new addiction and its name is Lyra Evans. This book is a total mind movie! Very strong story, good suspense and a mystery that wasn't revealed until almost the end of the book. Sex scenes are so well integrated that they just flow with the book and aren't in the least boring. Not long and drawn out but really get the point across.

I love these characters and hope to see more of them in the very near future. This is the 2nd book in the series but can be read as a standalone since its a complete story. However, you really need to read book 1 becasue its great, too.

Oh my... wow. Ms. Evans has done it yet again! This can easily become my favorite series if she keeps this up. I read so many erotic novels from newer authors, and I can only count on one hand how many keep me engaged past their first book. Lyra Evans has my complete attention and with this second installment, I am officially a fan. It's even better than Worth A Shot, which I didn't think could be possible. The story-telling, the suspense, the sex. It's all good. REALLY good. And the new beau? Ooh, hot trouble for Oliver indeed. Now excuse me while I go take another long bath, Worth The Trouble in one hand, and another kind of trouble in my other hand. ;)

The mystery in this second book was better developed than the first but for some reason there were many more editing errors this time out. Enough to pull me out of the story over and over again.
