Wargames of the Shellworld (The Shellworld Conflict Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 33 ratings

When history teacher Jessica Stanner accepts a mysterious offer from an alien probe, she finds herself thrust into a galactic competition where humanity's survival hinges on her leadership.

Alongside a retired naval officer and a theoretical physicist, Jessica must command armies of genetically engineered "demons" in the Shellworld—an unfathomably vast artificial construct hosting countless wargames.

As they navigate deadly battles against alien factions, the human team faces insurmountable odds, distrust from their own mentor, and challenges that will push their abilities to the limit. But the games are more than entertainment—they are a test, a spectacle, and a stage for intergalactic power struggles.

With billions of lives at stake, can humanity’s ragtag champions outwit ancient champions and earn a place in the cosmos, or will their failures doom Earth to oblivion?

Andrew P. McGregor’s characters don’t stand against the apocalypse. They crawl out from under it, laughing through the blood, jamming something sharp down its throat, and flying their wrecked starships into something worse. He writes science fiction where hope is optional, ammo is not—sharp-edged, brutal, and sometimes grinning.

He is the author of:

Starships & Apocalypse – short story collections where cowardice and courage trade places, and survival often requires something explosive left in inappropriate places.

The Shellworld Conflict Series – set in a stellar-sized construct ruled by alien trustees, where humanity is a pawn, a weapon, and an excellent excuse for someone else’s war.

Ammon was never pharaoh because he was taken by aliens to fight in their war games and he chose immortality as his gifts when he won. 3,000 years later new humans were taken from earth and that’s where it gets interesting.

I liked the basic premise. It's a slant that's somewhat new. The shell world it's size and the multitudes of different types of beings mean that there is potentially a very large number of stories and plots. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

If you like space opera this one is a very.different take on a future. I found it to be an interesting tale.

I enjoyed the premise. The story was well crafted. The protagonists are likable and they are relatable. The action is not as detailed as some might desire, but the novel would be twice as long to fill in some more details, which would slow the narrative.

1 of the best novels I have read in mini mini years . If the next books are even half as good as this 1 is it will be a miracle!
