Where Sleeping Gods Lie Kindle Edition

Logic tells us that when we reach the end of something, we stop.

Life is a game, a book; everything has an ending, but what if the end is just the beginning? My end came a long time ago and I hope you'll understand why I can begin again at that exact moment.

There are reasons these things happen. I’m not entirely sure what they all are, and I can name a certain few, but that would defeat the purpose of figuring it out. Everything should begin as a clean slate and end in flames. Nothing is salvageable if you really open your eyes and look at this putrid world. I was once taught that everyone deserves a second chance, everyone is wonderful in their own way, and everyone finds happiness.

I used to believe that because I had found my happiness. My sliver of sunshine on a rainy day. My cool, calm in the raging fires that spoke softly enough to quiet my malicious thoughts.

But there are only so many times you can roll the dice before you keep ending up with the same numbers.

Mind blown. This is a hard review for me. Nothing in mu review will give this book justice. I'm still trying to wrap my brain on this story. It's dark and has twists, but it's much deeper than that. This is a milder book then what I'm used to from this author. Yolanda pulls you into the couples lives and makes you feel like you are actually there with them. I don't know how this woman can write so many books so fast and every single word she writes just brillant.

Koval was shattered at a young age because of a girl named Exxie. Now at the age of 25 he is with his lover fai. I'm not going to lie the steamy scene between these two was kinda hot. Koval brings home a girl named Angie. She reminds Koval of Exxie. Will Angie survive?

The story is great; it captured and kept my attention so much so that I read it in one sitting. However, I expected more darkness and for it to scare me more than it did. This isn't the first book I've read by this author which is why I expected more. Like I said above, the story is great and IS dark just not AS scary as I've experienced this author to be.
Maybe it's just me and I'm becoming desensitized to these types of stories. Something for me to ponder.
My favorite part is the ending where, as the reader, you get to see how Fai and Koval met. THAT gave me the creeps which is what I consider this authors signature. Love the cover, too.

DNF at 16%. Trigger warning for SA should be included in the description (parts are mentioned in this review also).
This book was supposed to be some introspective type thing, not the bullsh*t mess of sewage I’ve been trying to sludge through. There’s basically no concrete info/anything to go off of for any kind of story, even though the content sounds like there’s a narrative. It’s contradictory but not in the way where a character is contradictory on purpose—it’s just lazy and bad writing. Author seems to think they’ll hit a profound saying if they just keep trying, but it’s not working; paragraphs are spent trying to build metaphors only to be abandoned the next paragraph by something completely different.
I didn’t get to any actual/literal SA but even if “nothing happens” the language is triggering enough. Things like “she brought this on herself” and “she’s drunk but I don’t care” “she’s passed out but I like that” and the character isn’t portrayed as a good person but it’s clear we’re supposed to feel bad/sympathy for them because they’ve supposedly had a hard life. No life is hard enough to make it okay to take home a woman who literally says “I’ve drunk too much” and it’s all kinds of gross how the character keeps justifying it (with several different conflicting reasons). AND. there’s no purpose to it. Like if the author is trying to make a point of consent, 1. can almost guarantee that the demographic most in need of consent talk is not reading this, and 2. it’s not done well, at all. Any wrongdoing here is “excused” by his hard past.
There’s no merit to this book (except the title I guess), tbh I can’t think of any person who should read it. It was free and I’m actually annoyed I wasted time downloading and trying so hard to give it a chance.

Where Sleeping Gods Lie by Yolanda Olson has to be on of my top 3 favorites that she has written. It doesn’t rely on gore as much as many of her other stories do, however if you have every read a book by Yolanda, you know there is going to be a catch in the end.

When first getting to know Fai and Koval, they seem like your normal couple who like spicing things up every now and then by adding a third. That’s where Angie comes in. However, things take a wrong turn when a drunk Angie says all the wrong things and sends Koval into a downward spiral.

In an effort to save Koval from himself, Fai gets Angie to take him across the border to their secluded cabin. Angie is hell bent on making it up to the two men in any way she can. That was her first mistake.

I spent the whole book falling in love with Fai and Koval. I felt that Koval was full of angst and had major issues, while Fai fought to keep him balanced. It’s this reason that I never would have guessed the ending.

Technically this book would be considered a horror, but honestly it doesn’t read that way. More like a suspense. You know something is going to go terribly wrong, but you don’t know when or how.

That’s all I can say without giving away the ending. So you’ll just have to read it for yourself

I hate Yolanda Olson right now. Why? I'll get to that in a minute. This is a book about two messed-up guys who care about each other deeply. They do messed-up things, and you know this, because this is Yolanda Olsen. This is why you're here. You want this. You know it's going to be there, you just want to see how she does it. Just like we all know that in a mystery, someone's gonna get murdered and the detective is gonna solve the case. We know that, but how it happens is what we really care about. With a Yolanda Olson story, you know you're going to get characters that are both intriguing and sickening. You know there's gonna be a little mystery that nags at you until the end when all is revealed after the bloodshed (because there's always bloodshed) is over.

Speaking of bloodshed, this brings me back around to why I hate Yolanda right now. The way she wrote the final scenes in this book made me realize what a monster I am. Her description of events is masterfully minimal, which means most of the gory details (and I do mean gory) are supplied by my own imagination. She didn't go into long-winded descriptions, she let me see for myself how sick I am. I can't just sit here and think, "Man, these guys are screwed up." I'm forced to sit with myself and realize... I'M screwed up.

So I hate Yolanda for that. By which I mean I love her and you should get this book.

    OMG 🤯🤯🤯
    I'm freaking shocked 🤯🤯
But that’s what I was aiming for when I picked this book.
I just knew it Yolanda Olson was the right author to get me out from the awful feeling of having read the same story thousand times already.
I needed something twisted and unpredictable.
And Fai & Kov' love is just that.
There’s something so wrong in their relationship and I understood what reading the epilogue.
    THAT EPILOGUE!!
They are just sick and I loved everything about them 🤷‍♀️
I can’t really tell you anything about the plot because it's a short book yet so complicated.
I couldn't stop reading and I can’t stop thinking about it because I wish there was more....

Definitely recommended if you are looking for a twisted read, but please be aware there are triggers warnings.

A fabulous cover and a title that piqued my curiosity...I had to read this book. I've heard great things about Mrs Olson's work, so I wanted to see for myself!

My mind is still reeling after finishing this short story. The promise of darkness slowly crept on me as the story progressed.

Told from three points of view, Where Sleeping Gods Lie's tone changes in function of the characters.

Angry Kov sets the plot in motion, charming Fai seals the fate, and sweet (meek) Angie is just a casualty in this messed up dynamic.

I'm torn because I like the idea, the mystery kept me wondering and almost bouncing with nervousness.

But, unfortunately, the back story of Kov deserved more development, which would have given more depth to the scenario. I couldn't fully connect to the characters, nor could I get totally invested in the story.

The ending, on the other hand, had me shrinking, screaming, and smiling. It detonated, exploded, was totally what I was looking for. Twisted, depraved, gore, the ultraviolence I was expecting lied there. The epilogue, which didn't really surprised me, gave me goosebumps, The whole book then appeared in a new light.

5.0 out of 5 stars DARK & TWISTED!!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 18, 2017
So after reading "Inferno" by this author and it was my first read for me. I couldn't get it out of my head. So I decided to look to see what other books she had done, only to be shocked to find out how many she has wrote and why haven't I read any from her before now ( I can't believe it)

So after picking this one, I went in ........And OMG......I have just found my new favourite dark author!

I just can't put into words how Yolanda Olson makes me feel, but she makes me feel everything while reading her books.

This is my second book and my mind is just......I can't even find the words to describe! Or even how much I love her writing and her dark twisted mind!!!!

I'm now off to find my next book to read and I can't wait!

4.0 out of 5 stars I love a dark read & this book is definitely that
Reviewed in Australia on October 19, 2017
I love a dark read & this book is definitely that. I prefer some light at the end of the tunnel but don't expect any here. I strongly disliked (hated) the main characters, except maybe the female victim. She acted like a drunken idiot but was a least contrite when she sobered up, while the two male protagonists had no such redeeming qualities. What saved this from a 3 star read was the authors skillful writing. It would be better suited to be called a horror story rather than erotica. It held my attention till the end, actually it was compelling reading, just don't expect redemption in the end. 4 stars.

This was good, but a little too short for me. I needed more, a little more backstory and for it to be a little longer. I enjoyed it, I just struggled to get into it a bit.
