Up in the Air 1: Johannesburg Kindle Edition
After missing the opportunity to ask for Darren’s number, James' jaw hits the floor when Darren walks into the same hotel he is staying at. Butterflies and nerves take over, but soon give way to excitement as they get to know each other on the ground.
When James' ex, Richard, shows up and begs for forgiveness, James has to decide if going back to the man who broke his heart would be worth it, or if he should finally move on and take a chance on Darren.

About the author

George was about eighteen when he told his friend that he was going to be a writer. It took him another eighteen years before he finally did anything about it and wrote his first short story. A typical Englishman, he drinks buckets of tea with milk—but no sugar, because he is sweet enough. His Nan told him so.
George lives just outside of London, but close enough to enjoy Soho and the West End, where you will find him in a bar with a pint, in a club dancing into the early hours of the morning, or enjoying a musical in the theater; but more than likely he will be in a coffee shop reading a book or writing a new story.

Rating: 4 stars out of 5
I really enjoyed this story. James has been pouting over his ex and the truth about their relationship for awhile. Meeting Darren gives him the opportunity to actually put Richard behind him and see how a real relationship could work.
I loved James and how much he just wanted to be in love and loved like most do. And boy does he luck out, Darren seems like the sweetest guy and more than willing to work out their scheduling issues they may have. It was easy to connect with these characters even with the story being told through James’s eyes because Darren was very open with how he felt. I look forward to reading about Max’s story and more about Darren and James.
The cover art by Ethereal Ealain is great and gives a nice visual of the characters.

This release by author George Loveland is a fast, easy-reading, and engaging story. The reader is introduced to best friends, colleagues, and apartment mates James and Max in the opening scene when the latter returns home drunker than a skunk only hours before he’s to leave on a several-day flight schedule. James comes to the rescue – by the sounds of it, not the first time – by convincing Max’s latest hook-up to be on his way, as well as switching work schedules with him in order to help save his job (apparently Max is on thin ice with his employer). James finds himself paired on the initial flight with his friend Annie in Premium Class and is looking forward to an uneventful shift, when a late-arriving passenger literally knocks him off his feet. The chance meeting appears to be fate, and when James is reassigned to help out a stewardess in another section of the plane, Annie makes sure to set things up to keep James’ options open by arranging for him and the passenger (Darren) to meet up again.
James’ creepy ex, an airline pilot, just happens to be on the Johannesburg route, much to James’ dismay. Though the ex does his best to mess us James’ newfound kinship and budding romance, Darren proves to be the nice guy that James truly deserves. The author refreshingly composes a relationship between the two based on more than lust, and even though Up in the Air is a novella, the reader isn’t jilted with behind-the-scenes action. Instead, the fruits of James’ and Darren’s attraction, evolving friendship, and resulting romantic relationship ripen front and center and the scenes don’t feel rushed. It’s a sweet, satisfying storyline with very little angst and a fulfilling HFN. The book even teases at the next excerpt in the series, Max’s rescheduled assignment.
Up in the Air promises to be an “excited to see what happens next!” series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of Up in the Air 1: Johannesburg.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017This is a pretty quick read, but very sweet and enjoyable. The main characters are both likeable people, and I appreciated the fact that James' friends played integral parts of the story, but didn't take a up a lot of time. The focus was on James and Darren. All in all, I think this would be a great book for a lazy summer afternoon sitting by the pool. I look forward to reading Max's story. His character intrigued me.

Quick and sweet short story about two adorable men who meet on a flight to Johannesburg. There's an instant mutual attraction but thankfully, it's not insta-love. James and Darren get to know each other as best as they can during the couple days they spend in Johannesburg together and the ending is a strong HFN.
Despite the book called Johannesburg, we don't get to see much of the city. The story could have taken place anywhere really and I wished there was a stronger sense of place.
The secondary characters, mainly James' friends/co-workers and his gran, are introduced and play a part in the book but they don't overtake the story.
Book 2, Up in the Air 2: West Coast, focuses on James' best friend Max and book 3, Up in the Air 3: London, which is yet to be released, will be about James and Darren again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destiny
Romantic book, about a by chance meeting, which never would of happened if James hadn't been such a good friend, covering for Max by swapping flights, so that Max wouldn't get the sack for being unfit to work.
