Silvia Violet writes bad boy M/M romance. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like "Do you write children's books?" She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she's actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.

    Re-read Dec 9, 2024
I simply found this story wonderful ! I loved the premise, the lovely characters, and the super hot sexiness of this pair. Eli, 28, just found his boyfriend cheating on him, and wasn't in the Christmas spirit. He's a writer, and his Mom encouraged him to go to their friend's cabin for some relaxing time. Relaxing isn't how it began, as the snow storm pounded the area, he barely made it there, and then, no wood...now what?
Enter Mac, the "wood" guy who comes to the rescue, and added food, too. Each man is struck with an immediate attraction, and their banter is witty, and the story is fun. Silvia Violet is a wonderful writer, and this was just the right amount of everything for a charming Christmas tale !
    Highly recommended ! ENJOY !

    Audiobook Review December 2019:
I can't believe it's been 4 years since I originally read this lovely novella and it is still just as brilliant as I remember. Eli and Mac are a perfect fit and though they may not be looking, Needing a Little Christmas is a right place, right time sort of tale that leaves you smiling for hours. As for Sean Crisden's narration, well his voice is absolutely perfect for Eli and Mac's journey and makes the whole thing come alive.

Original ebook Review November 2015(4-1/2 Stars):
I discovered Silvia Violet last Christmas so when I found more holiday tales I knew I had to read them. I was not disappointed with Needing a Little Christmas. Sometimes when we are at what feels like our lowest, fate intervenes in the most unexpected and unlikely ways. That pretty much sums up where Eli finds himself when he meets Mac. Such a delicious and fun addition to my holiday library and to be honest, I wouldn't mind if the author decides to revisit this couple *wink, wink, hint, hint*.

What a fun short read! I simply can't tell you how many times I've read this because I've read again and again to enjoy Dave and Mac's lovely story. Of course, not that any "happily-ever-after" is visible at the beginning of the book- a crappy, cheating ex-boyfriend and a concerned mother, then the drive in the snowstorm. No supplies and several feet of snow. But then Mac came to the rescue :). I'm not giving you anymore than that- you gotta read the book for the lovely romance and the hot sex! Silvia Violet is an absolutely wonderful author.

    My Quickie Review:
Christmas Eve, snowed-in in a remote mountain cabin, a writer, an alpha mountain man....this book hit all my buttons. I enjoyed it. It's definitely a fun, little romantic holiday diversion for an evening's read. At first it seemed like these two guys have an insta-love relationship....they are attracted before they ever meet...just from talking on the phone. But they do have a couple of meetings before they truly hook up...developing a friendship and some true chemistry first. I was thankful for that. It is short, sweet and high on the heat factor....bear rug in a cold mountain cabin in front of the fireplace...I can get behind that idea. I liked it.

Writer is actually literate-- can spell and conjugate verbs and even writes some fairly tight prose. In fact one reason I went with three stars instead of 4 is because I wanted to say, "You're better than this." Despite the fact that the author seems competent, the whole story is a brief excuse to write a detailed "intimacy" scene. The barely there plot was far too contrived (Who goes off into the woods for a week and "forgets" to bring any food at all??). The main character is adorable, and impossible not to like, but fairly one-dimensional, and the rescuer is a very pretty cardboard cutout. I didn't really mind the 99 cents it cost to pass the half hour it took to read it, though I confess to being sold by the photo, not the plot summary. Definitely hire that model again. But the writer could have done so much more with it if she'd been willing to make it about more than just that one scene. Nothing wrong with the scene. It's pretty typical of anything in the genre. But one insert tab A into slot B doesn't really make a story. I'd like to see this author continue to write, but expand her focus a little.

What a sh** way to start the Christmas season. After getting rid of his cheating boyfriend,Eli is so not in the mood for any holiday happiness. But his mother coaxes him into spending the holidays at her friend's cabin in the mountains. Rather ill prepared Eli drives uphill freezing roads only to find a snowed in cabin with empty cupboards and without firewood. Lucky from him, local wood delivery man Mac comes to the rescue in more than one way.

A cabin in the snow with a fluffy rug in front of the fireplace and two lovable charaters, that ticked off all my boxes for an enjoyable read. Despite it being a short story, Silvia Violet creates Eli and Mac with so many facettes. Their banter is witty and Mac's kindness and deep voice warms up Eli's sad mood instantly. The chemistry is hot between them, but both men take time to form a friendship first before they give in to the pulling attraction. The smaller writer and the big mountain man seem to be as different as night and day, but they fit perfectly together. Would love to meet them again and see how their relationship is moving on when snow and the holidays are gone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Such A Vague Ending To A Good Story.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 21, 2023
I have read this book via Kindle Unlimited.
In my opinion, although I partially enjoyed the novella, it fails on so many levels.
Both Eli and Mac are two dimensional characters that you are unable to invest any interest in.
The meet up was glossed over very quickly, even though Eli keeps talking about his ex.
Nevertheless, they consummate their attraction in front of the fire on the back of a real bearskin rug.
They both want more but are from different places. Do they get together permanently? Do they go their own separate ways? Do they make work a long distance relationship? Is Mac just a rebound guy for Eli?
If you want an answer to any of these questions, you won't find it in this novella.
It's just a "Happy For Now" type of ending. Why wasn't this written in the blurb? If it had been, I would have steered clear of reading the novella.
Happy For Now is fine if you enjoy reading that type of novel.
Personally I don't, it's the equivalent of reading about two people who meet in a pub, go back to one of their homes, have a night of action and then go their own separate ways in the morning with a promise of a second date, even though they live in different cities, but nothing ever happens between them.
I'm really not a fan of the author, they make sweeping statements in regards to the gay community.
That all gay men sleep around, that gay men can't sustain a long term relationship due to one of them being unfaithful. Or (as in other books) all gay men prefer polyamory and polygamy. In my opinion, this is so insulting that it borders on something more negative than I feel the author meant.
I certainly won't be reading any further work from this author.
Which I find disappointing as this book had such potential.

Such a sweet little story about Eli & Mac who meet in a cabin in the middle oder nowhere. My only complaint is that this story was too short. I would have loved to learn more about the starting relationship between these two. I love the books by Silvia Violet and this novella was well written - as always.
