A Christmas Situation: An employee/boss gay romantic comedy (Temporary) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 214 ratings

Love conquers all. But can it survive Christmas?

Dominic and Tristan have been together for almost a year. So everything's got to be plain sailing, right? Not quite. Not if you ask Dominic. Tristan's a bundle of energy and crazy ideas at the best of times. Add in Christmas, and it's a recipe for disaster.

That's not the only issue. There's also Tristan's mysterious absences and secret phone calls to contend with. Dominic might be insecure, but he's not crazy. His boyfriend is definitely up to something, and neither family nor friends seem interested in listening to his concerns. He won't jump to conclusions this time though. He'll talk to Tristan. Only what do you do when you can't get a straight answer out of the man you love?

When Tristan's secrets are revealed, will their first Christmas together also be their last? Or is Dominic about to discover that all his worries have been for nothing?

Only time will tell.

A story containing Christmas snark; a drunk Tristan; snow; and absolutely no mention of spiders—well alright, maybe a few mentions.
Please note that this novella features the same characters as A Temporary Situation, therefore should only be read after reading that one.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

H.L Day grew up in the North of England. As a child she was an avid reader, spending lots of time at the local library or escaping into the imaginary worlds created by the books she read. Her grandmother first introduced her to the genre of romance novels, as a teenager, and all the steamy sex they entailed. Naughty Grandma!

One day, H.L Day stumbled upon the world of m/m romance. She remained content to read other people’s books for a while, before deciding to give it a go herself.

Now, she’s a teacher by day and a writer by night. Actually, that’s not quite true—she’s a teacher by day, procrastinates about writing at night and writes in the school holidays, when she’s not continuing to procrastinate. After all, there’s books to read, places to go, people to see, exercise at the gym to do, films to watch. So many things to do—so few hours to do it in. Every now and again, she musters enough self-discipline to actually get some words onto paper—sometimes they even make sense and are in the right order.

A Christmas Situation is an excellent supplement of the story of Dominic and Tristan.
Dom is still snarky and bold, but he is also still a bit insecure.
Tristan is still the lovable, clueless goof that Dom fell in love with in A Temporary Situation.
I had forgotten how happy these guys together make me.
I laughed. Oh boy, I laughed. When I'm done writing this, I am going to reread both books... just because.
The storyline is interesting and so very funny, the (sometimes humorous)passion is intense, and the continuing HEA is very satisfying.
I enjoy this author and look forward to more.

A cute sequel to the first story, this one takes us through the shenanigans that Tristan gets up to as he plans and then executes an epic (for him) proposal and a trip for Christmas that gives him and Dominic time alone. It's a year later by the time the novella ends, and Dominic has returned to favor and proposed and given him a ring as well. In between, we see Tristan in all his zaniness, with his big heart and his romantic impulses, ignoring Dominic's continued sarcasm and orneriness. I still don't see what Tristan sees in him. I still don't really like him much better this time around than last. He is still mean, still uppity, still entitled. But it's Tristan's actions, whether overblown -- like the way-too-tall Christmas tree and the over-the-top decorations -- or on point -- like the asking for permission from Dominic's dad, or the snowball fight -- that make this second installment a sweet and delightful tale.

Sorry but Don is more needy in this book than the first. I just can’t stand him anymore, he comes off as cold and cruel.

hL Dsy's A Christmas Situationis a holiday bonus that continues the story of Dominic and Tristan from A Temporary Situation. They have been together for about a year and things have been wonderful and they are deep in love. Then, Christmas time arrives and brings along some issues, along with a certain ex fiance back in town and Tristan seeking to be hiding a secret from Dominic. When things come out in the open will it bring them closer or tear them apart.

Holidays are a true test for relationships. You have the stress, the secrets if trying to surprise someone, crazy family and friends coming around. It also makes for a fun and sweet romance story. These guys are funny, sweet, sexy and I just love them. I really need to read more of them and their friends.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

This was an absolute blast to read. It's not often that a sequel tops the prior book, but this novella did just that :)
Tristan is still the same: seemingly oblivious to everything except Dom and anything he wants, while Dom is still his snarky self. And they are as much in love as before, although Dom still second guesses Tristan's feelings. Luckily Tristan does a good job (in his own 'take no prisoners' way) of convincing Dom that he is it for him. There are a lot of funny moments, but the trip away is by far the best. Just know that Dom is an evil genius, lol!
I can't wait for more from HL Day!

I received an advanced copy and the opinions are my own and without bias.

A Christmas Situation is a bit of a holiday bonus novella that gives us a glimpse into the continuation of Tristian and Dominic’s relationship. It’s been a year since they’ve gotten together and they’re still going strong. Or so it seems. Tristian has been acting extremely secretive and disappearing from the office a lot more than usual. Poor Dom thought he knew what he was in for when it comes to Tristian. He doesn’t even know what he’s in for when it comes to the holidays.

Tristian is a bit overzealous when it comes to Christmas surprises involving Dominic. I feel like he may have overstepped buuut Dominic liked the results so I can’t find fault in it. I did expect the little surprise at the end and was excited to see it happen! My lips are zipped, so you have to read it to find out what I’m talking about. But yay!
Overall, and excellent addition to Tristian and Dom’s story.

This was a great follow up to Dominic and Tristan's story that started in A Temporary Situation. Christmas can test the strongest relationships and the fact that Dominic and Tristan are still in the early stages of theirs is just added pressure. A great holiday short, it should be read after book 1.

And what more could you want? We're back with Dominic and Tristan and the hilarious situations keep coming! I was snort-laughing my way through this holiday novella. These two are just a hoot! Loved the banter but also the genuine loveable feelings that the author never fails to convey. You need to read the full-length book "A Temporary Situation" to get the complete experience and the most enjoyment out of this. I loved it and thought it had the perfect blend of fun and emotion, lots of holiday cheer and a bit of relationship angst. Can't wait for their wedding novella, which the author all but promised to write. Ms Day, I'm holding you to that! :)))

They are ok but I dont find the characters engaging in the authors other books. However tristan and dominc rock my boat added with a G4Y trope and ya, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
