Sympathy: MM Romance with a Hint of Magic Kindle Edition
Learning how to walk again takes determination, strength and courage. Learning how to date again is brutal.
It took Anthony Potosi years to recover from the accident that claimed his father's life, and doctors told him he'd never walk again. He proved them wrong. Now he's back at the landscaping business, Potosi and Sons, he shares with his two older brothers—but they seem more interested in getting him to sell out his share than in celebrating his recovery.
The oil-and-water relationship between Tony and his brothers is hardly new. Even when they were kids, they delighted in terrorizing each other with stories like "The Hook," complete with visits to the abandoned Victorian half a mile down the two-lane.
Now Tony towers over his brothers...but he's still the youngest. When the new owner of the Hook House calls in an order, they take a little too much satisfaction in sending him to face his old fears. And learning to open up again to trust, desire—and maybe even love—is far scarier than The Hook.
Sympathy is a gay romance novella with moderate steam and just a hint of magic.

About the author

Author and artist Jordan Castillo Price writes paranormal adventures colored by her time in the Midwest, from inner city Chicago, to various cities across southern Wisconsin. She’s settled in a 1910 Cape Cod near Lake Michigan with tons of character and a plethora of bizarre spiders. Any disembodied noises, she’s decided, will be blamed on the ice maker.
Jordan is best known as the author of the PsyCop series, an unfolding tale of paranormal mystery and suspense starring Victor Bayne, a gay medium who's plagued by ghostly visitations. And her quirky, sweet, magical series The ABCs of Spellcraft is sure to make you smile.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2020Anthony was injured in a car accident that killed his father and doctors told him that he would never walk again. He and his brothers work together in the landscaping business, Potosi and Sons. His brothers want Anthony to sell out his share of the business due to the fact that his car accident still leaves him walking with limp and some physical weakness.
Tony and his brothers used to terrorize each other with scary stories about "The Hook," before taking a trip to the abandoned Victorian half a mile down. One day, Tony receives a call from the new owner of the Hook House with an order, his brothers send him out on the call to face his old childhood fears. Tony meets the new owner who has a surprising connection to Tony's past and along the way, he finds himself opening up to the idea of love and romance.
This was a wonderful short and romantic novella with just the right amount of steam and magic for me to enjoy. Can't wait to re-read this over and over again!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2019This was a interesting read I kind of get the premise of this book both men feel like they are broken but that both of them has survived a terrible life changing event . This story is about David a fourth-two year old artist and Nicholas a twenty -Nine year old landscaper David has spent ten year's with a junkie boyfriend whom he just couldn't make himself leave even though it has caused him good friends . The two men meet after Nick is asked to take some trees out to a famous home in the neighborhood The Hook house a local legend for being haunted . Needless to say Nick is a little apprehensive is a understatement Nick has history with the Hook House when Nick was ten he was dared by his older brothers to go their . After a frightening visit to the famous home Nick never thought he'd go back there again But the first time Nick come back too the house He meets the new owner David a ceramic artists it's instant lust their just some so mystical about David that Nick just can't let go . This is the beginning for something amazing for both men because what they both needed they find in each other .
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020This "book" is merely the beginning chapters of a story. I was led to expect too much, a short but beguiling plot, by the hint of a magical element and the author's name. The magic is only a slight oddity, on par with an uneasiness like that which one might feel in a room filled with dolls or mannequins. Save your money. At $2.99 + tax, this vignette is well overpriced. Even if it were free, it would be disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2010Anthony Potosi works with his two brothers running their late father's landscaping business. The accident that killed their father also left Tony with medical problems. Confined to a wheelchair for an extended length of time, he is now walking again, but barely. And the pain is pretty intense.
They get a call one day to deliver some plants to Hook House, an old home on sprawling grounds that he and his siblings believed to be haunted. Going there, the house has changed, and the new owner is a very attractive artist working with pottery who feels a strong attraction to Anthony.
This is not a simple romance or erotica tale. It's a wonderful character portrayal with highly nuanced characters and a real emotional impact that warms you long after you've finished reading it. There is more going on than just the attraction between two people, and the final pages are eye-opening. The writing style is superb. It's a short sweet tale that is so finely crafted it belongs in its own league.
She is a gifted writer, and this is exceptional even compared to her other works. It's perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2022Sweet novella. I don’t quite know what to make of Tony’s brothers. They seem like jerks to me but we only see one side of them. David is a little mysterious but he also is perfect for Anthony. I enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018Actually, JCP did it before. "Sympathy" dates from about the same time as Ms Price's first in her excellent "PsyCop" series. It's a short; I polished it off in one evening, but it's a completely satisfactory reading experience.
The story starts as a rather typical "meet cute" between two nice but damaged guys, but, as always with JCP's work, you come away with more than just a happily-ever-after, you also get a little food for thought. This is what puts Price at the head of the pack in the MM genre: she appeals not just to the heart, but the head as well. It's intelligent, beautifully crafted writing that never sacrifices smart for sweet. In this little story, you get plenty of both.
BTW, Please do yourself a favor and read JCP's notes on the story, which you'll find at the very end of the book; they cast all the more light and interest. Brava, JCP!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2021This author writes stories that are sometimes weird but always good and this is one of them. A ceramist and a man who is a landscaper meet at a house that has caused Tony fear over the years. Having suffered a life threatening accident he still suffers from his injuries. A story that is short but very deep, sad, somewhat dark and possibly magical. I am sad that the ending doesn't involve Tony being healed. A good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, Sweet Mystery
Do you like the idea of magic? The sympathetic kind? Those little, unaccountable coincidences that make you wonder - is there more to this world than you see on the surface? This gentle romance has room for backstories, childhood memories, survival against the odds, and a pinch of deja vu.
