'Tis the Season Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 47 ratings

Aaron has spent the past ten months alone. When he meets a sad, yet strangely familiar man on a cold Halloween night, he impulsively invites him home. But the intimate connection they share lasts only until morning. Aaron wakes up alone—wracked with guilt and devastated to have lost his chance.

Or so he thinks.

Thanksgiving brings Aaron another shot at happiness, but letting go of an old love and accepting a new one isn’t as easy as everyone keeps telling him. And by the time Christmas Eve rolls around, it becomes clear that Aaron’s not the only one struggling to let himself love again.

Christmas miracles are all well and good, but it’s going to take more than the Holiday Spirit for Aaron to get his happy ever after.

A story of grief, sadness, and letting it go; and finding love when you least expect it.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

After spending years creating stories in her head, Alex started writing them down and then found she couldn’t stop. Despite the late start, she now writes m/m romance about found families, sometimes with an historical feel—and the occasional werewolf.

Free from aspirations of literary greatness, Alex simply hopes to spin a good yarn of love and life, wrapped up with a happy ending. And if her characters have to go through Hell to get there, she’s a-okay with that.

Alex writes and walks on the South Coast of England—even when her heart and spellcheck are in New York.

You can now find her dark m/m romance under Alexis Jane, if you like love…but darker.

    ‘TIS THE SEASON
    ALEX JANE

    13 Mar 2020

I HAVE READ ALL THE REVIEWS THAT WERE SHOWING ON THIS BOOK’S SYNOPSIS PAGE.
I HAVE CHECKED THE KEYWORDS ABOVE THESE REVIEWS.
I’M STUNNED NOT ONE REVIEWER SEEMED TO PICK UP ON THE CORRELATION OF THIS STORY "‘Tis the Season" WITH THE ICONIC HOLIDAY MOVIE — "It’s a Wonderful Life."

    THIS BOOK HAS A "George.”
    THIS BOOK HAS A ”Clarence."
THIS BOOK HAS AN ANGEL "with a bell."

IT EVEN HAS A QUOTE: "Somebody got their wings."

THUS, THE REASON FOR MY MY ABSOLUTE SURPRISE, THAT IT WASN’T MENTIONED.
(It may have been on another page of reviews but, that doesn’t explain why the ones I DID read, didn’t seem to ”get it.")

I WILL NOT GO INTO THE STORYLINE.
THERE IS NO NEED TO WHEN THE SYNOPSIS SAYS IT ALL.

    SUFFICE IT TO SAY:
IF YOU LIKE/LOVE THE HOLIDAY MOVIE "IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE," —
YOU SHOULD THEN LIKE/LOVE THIS HOLIDAY BOOK, "‘‘TIS THE SEASON."

YES, IT’S SAD BUT, MORE THAN THAT —
    IT’S HEARTWARMING.
    PLUS, IT’S REALLY QUITE BEAUTIFUL.

EACH ONE, OF THESE TWO MEN, WERE DEFINITELY "NOT” PERFECT.

THIS BOOK, MOST DEFINITELY, DID ”NOT” SUGARCOAT THEIR HEART WRENCHING PAIN.
AND, IT POSITIVELY DID "NOT" PRETEND THE HOLIDAYS SOMEHOW JUST MAGICALLY "FIX” EVERYTHING. (Not that I mind those type of books, mind you.)

THIS BOOK SHOWED THE REALITY THAT GRIEF AND PAIN (mental, not physical) DO, INDEED, TAKE TIME.
AND IT LET THEM TAKE IT — THEIR TIME, THAT IS.

AS I SAID EARLIER — THE SYNOPSIS SAYS IT ALL:
"Christmas miracles are all well and good, but it’s going to take more than the Holiday Spirit for Aaron to get his happy ever after.
A story of grief, sadness, and letting it go; and finding love when you least expect it."

AS USUAL, YOU CAN EXPECT NOTHING BUT THE BEST FROM ALEX JANE.
ALEX JANE KNOWS HOW TO WRITE.
ALEX JANE KNOWS HOW TO WRITE ”WORKING" INTO LOVE.
(Ya, I said "working" not "falling.")
ALEX JANE KNOWS HOW TO WRITE ”CHRISTMAS."
I HAVE READ A "FEW" OF HER CHRISTMAS BOOKS.
I HAVE READ A "FEW" OF THE OTHERS AS WELL.
("No Regrets" being a huge favorite.)

AND, THIS I CAN TELL YOU,
    THEY HAVE ALL BEEN:
    — NO-NONSENSE — NON-APOLOGETIC — STRAIGHT-UP-REALISTIC — BOOKS.

THIS IS A WRITING STYLE I HAVE A DEEP APPRECIATION FOR.

ONCE I DO FIND AN AUTHOR WHO WRITES THIS WAY, THEY WILL NEVER LOSE ME AS A LOYAL, AND MOST ADMIRING, READER OF ALL THEY HAVE TO OFFER.

FOR THIS IS A WRITING STYLE OF WHICH I WILL ALWAYS SEEK OUT.
A WRITING STYLE OF WHICH I WILL ALWAYS RETURN TO AGAIN, AND AGAIN.

    IF YOU LIKE HONESTY.
IF YOU LIKE CHARACTERS WHO REMAIN TRUE TO THEIR CORE, WITH NO DEVIATION, AS THE STORY MOVES ON.

THEN, ALEX JANE IS ONE AUTHOR YOU WILL WANT TO TAKE AN INTEREST IN.
I KNOW ALEX JANE IS ONE AUTHOR I WILL KEEP READING AS MORE AND MORE BOOKS ARE PUBLISHED.

THANK YOU, ALEX JANE, FOR ALL YOU DO.

THIS STORY IS TRULY A GEM.

This was a gentle story about loss. finding love again, and how there is always hope to keep us going. This will definitely put the reader in the holiday spirit.

I really liked the story. Obviously, due to size, there's not a whole lot of character development going on. That said, the MCs are developed enough to be intriguing. It also helps that they have distinct identities.
The story itself is more of a series of literary snapshots. It is well written with intelligent use of language. It is also, thank God, not flowery or overblown. And, nothing that happens is overblown either. It's all very down to earth. Which I also enjoy immensely. A story doesn't have to involve high drama and angst to be worth it, it just has to be well told.

The author did a great job with this novella.  I am not partial to shorter audiobooks, and at just under three hours I usually would pass this by.  But I do enjoy Alex’s writing skills, so I thought I would give it a try.  I was pleasantly surprised how much it didn’t bother me at all!  Nothing was missing, and it really felt like a full sized book.  The epilogue played a big part of that.  The heartfelt conversations it contained really touched me personally, and Michael’s talent undoubtedly brought it to another level.  I look forward to more of his work and the characters he brings to life.  I definitely recommend this audiobook.

I really enjoyed this read. It was short and easy to read and I didn't put it down once I started to read. I kinda knew where it was headed once I started to read but even though it was predictable it was enjoyable. Good writing and great characters. I love a book with flawed characters and happy endings!

This was such a beautiful heartwarming story. It began with heartache, moved through indecision and feelings of abandonment and finally into the discovery that life can give you a second chance at finding yourself in love with that special person.
This is a story that gives hope to people saddened by loss. You Can find love again and not live with despair. You Can find that one person who makes you whole and gives you both your HEA.

Alex Jane is a new to me author, and after listening to this short Novella i would most definitely read or listen to her books again. In relation to the audio the narration of the read was wonderful Michael Fell did a great job.

Tis the Season is a sweet short novella about grief, loss and finding love again when you lest expected it.

Aaron tragically lost his husband and is learning to live and go with his life. He has been closed to everyone through his grief he knows they mean well but hates the pitying looks.

Dylan's boyfriend left him, but he also did quite a number on him over their two year relationship with Dylan's self-esteem and confidence taking quite a hit.

They meet on a bridge where Dylan is contemplating ending it all. Aaron saves him and their lives intertwine with them both struggling to cope with their grief and emotional pain.

But the brightest star is found in the darkest of night and thats how i felt about their romance and coming together. They supported and comforted each other and found happiness again.

A beautiful sweet heartwarming and emotional short story, but absolutely perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story.

There's a heavy tinge of sadness in this tale, Aaron struggles to move on after the passing of his husband and Dylan escaped a rather bad relationship. But, that aside, this is a lovely, touching read that spans from one Christmas to the next, a sweet but delicate affection between these two, giving us a wonderful story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Mix of Romance and Angst
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 11, 2016
I love this story, it is the perfect mix of romance and angst. Alex Jane always makes her characters believable and engaging, so from the very first page you care about them and what happens to them. I really liked how both characters struggled with their new relationship, it wasn't a quick-fix when they met, which made their story realistic. I liked the supporting characters, especially Kevin and Joe, and thought it was lovely that Dylan had told them all about his 'Clarence'. Aaron's grief and guilt were perfectly conveyed, as was Dylan's sense of betrayal over his ex's behaviour.

I will be reading this again next month with a mince pie and a glass of sherry, and I can't think of a better way to spend a cold winter's afternoon.
