Eve Eden vs. the Zombie Horde (The Eve Eden Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

Kidnapped by a vampire, epically farted on by a pug, and dragged through the pits of hell. Welcome to Eve Eden's world in the small and strange town of Twin Forest. Eve has goals and ambitions that don’t involve staying in this weird podunk town.

Supernatural forces collide and drop her into the heart of England, and she’s not exactly pleased. When Eve said she wanted to get the heck out of dodge, she didn’t mean getting transported into a torture chamber, inside the dungeon of an actual castle!

Damned souls from the depths of hell, her body's sudden ability to heal quickly from wounds. Resisting her inexplicable attraction to a vampire who’s been sent to kill her. Can life get any worse? Apparently, it can, because just around the corner at the Twin Forest cemetery waits the zombie horde.

This young adult book takes the best parts of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and fuses it with a little Jennifer's Body and some Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I really liked it. The pacing is quick and the action comes at you faster than any Bruce Willis movie.

I love the way Suz constructed the story. First she gives us a mysterious amulet via a magical spell that seems to have as much power as the one ring does in Tolkien's epic fantasy, "The Lord of the Rings." By the end of the book, we learn that the amulet is really the devil's trident, and the devil will stop at nothing to get it back (even if it means unleashing a zombie horde using the ghosts of those trapped in Hell).

In reading this book, expect LOTS of camp and for Eve Eden to be destroying things while worrying about her nails, hoping that her now white hair does not make her look bad, and not really being terrified of anything. She's the modern heroine that faces down monsters while holding a cell phone and when given supernatural paranormal powers, uses them to leap from tree to tree in stiletto high heels! And somehow she manages to do all of that and still go to high school with her friends.

And zombies...ick...that is so NOT prom material.

I giggled throughout this book. I love Eve's "voice", and I think this is the start of a great, hilariously funny series. One things for sure, there's no time to be bored.

And for the record, Nathan is a cute vampire. I'm glad that dog fart didn't hurt him too much. If you are a fan of Scott Pilgrim, Buffy, or Jennifer's Body, you would do well to pick up and read this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Let me begin by saying I had high expectations from this book and who wouldn't. Great title and blurb. I hoped it be funny, action packed and basically filled with zombies. And in some parts it was.

This is not your typical ya book. From the very beginning till the end a million things happen. Eve gets abducted by a vampire, then she goes through hell, literally, and then faces a zombie horde. I loved the fact that the book didn't slow down at all. But even though all these things happen they seem a bit random and confusing. Especially the hell part, it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, where everything was so random and weird, just with burning souls and stuff. And through all this action parts we didn't really get to know the characters that well. Not even Eve. And it's a first person narrative.

The one part on which this book didn't let me down was the funny part. There were so many situations that made me laugh out loud. And it made it a very fast and enjoyable read, even though half of the time I had no idea what was going on.

There's not much that hasn't already been said, so I will keep this short. I adore Suz's writing style, enjoyed every last character (even the ones I hated at the same time), and LOVED the storyline, especially the bit of twisted romance in there (at least that's how I saw it -- is something wrong with me!?). I'm officially hooked and CANNOT wait to dive into book two!!

Action packed fun for the whole family (this is what I imagine the reviews would say were this book ever to be turned into a movie).

This is a children's book with probably a target audience of preteens, so just keep that in mind when reading this. That being said, I'm a whole lot older than that and I enjoyed this wickedly entertaining tale.

Eve Eden vs. the Zombie Horde is funny, action-packed and the friendship between Kimi and Eve was a delight to read. Unlike some reviews of the book, the presence of the vampire boy is minimal in the scheme of the entire book and it's Eve herself who takes centre stage.

So we've got a magical necklace, vampires, zombies, a hell dimension, time going backwards and a small town where all the citizens undergo battle training. This book is a wonderful mix of horror, science-fiction and fantasy. The writing style is fast-paced and what I have to call zippy. Korb has a unique writing voice and I enjoyed it. I've never read a book quite like this one before so it gets points for that. The whimsical tone and crazy adventures were reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. The action never stops and I think if this was ever made into a movie, kids would go wild for it.

Finally, I think the book cover is fantastic and I love the title.
