One Margarita: A Sweet Small-Town Grumpy-Sunshine Enemies-to-More Christmas Romance (Brewer Brides Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 55 ratings

Readers' Favorite 5-Star Review "One Margarita is a great selection for readers who enjoy small-town stories and romance with the hijinks of a cute kitten thrown in for good measure."
***

His life was perfectly perfect. Until she showed up.

A little competition, a dash of mischief, and a smidge of something sweet won't be the only things brewing this holiday season.

Keegan Brewer's life is perfectly fine. He's content with his perfected daily routine: early mornings dreaming up new craft beers for his family's restaurant, afternoons managing Brewski's from behind the scenes, and evenings syncing Christmas songs to the LED light display on and around his tiny caboose home on his grandparents' ranchland. Sure, it irks him that his favorite retired hockey player is opening a rival restaurant across the street, and he'll defend his family's business no matter what it takes. One thing he knows for sure is that he wants nothing to do with the bombshell blonde who wants his brewery secrets to make her dad's restaurant a success.

Daughter of a hockey legend, heiress to a billion-dollar sports equipment and fashion empire, and Olympic champion in her own right, Astoria Kubek practically grew up at Brewski's. A lifetime ago, she and the Brewer kids were friends, on and off the ice, playing peewee hockey and pranking the pros. She's been tasked with creating a signature brew to put their new family restaurant on the map. And she wants Keegan's help.

It'll take everything she's got to get the grumpy brewer's attention, never mind his assistance. But the man won't even look at her. Astoria is used to winning, but winning Keegan over becomes more than a job—especially when she discovers the power of his dimples and his adoration of her crazy foster kitten. Making him smile is her new mission, even if her messy life gives him hives. She'll do whatever it takes to bring him true Christmas joy—including unleashing her adorable kitty as a secret weapon.

Together, can they craft a perfect beer and gift each other with the most special Christmas gift of all?

Review

*FIVE STARS* Kerry Evelyn finds the crease with this new heartwarming story, the first book in what is sure to be a hot new series, set in the fictional town of Palmer City, Colorado. From time to time, old familiar characters show up, as well as new ones, but from Chapter one, we, the reader, feel right at home. Plus, did I mention there's hockey? Margaritas? An adorable foster kitten? And a hero obsessed with Christmas lights? I mean, what's not to love?

But cuteness and comedy aside, Kerry has a knack for dealing with tough subjects - character "flaws" or real-life situations that probably (otherwise) shouldn't be adorning the pages of a romantic comedy. But, she broaches these tough (real-life) subjects in such a beautiful way - that adheres our hearts to her wonderful characters, and makes us root for them, so that we forget that they are flawed at all. Isn't that the point anyway? That love covers a multitude of faults? Well, that is EXACTLY the theme of this incredible story of overcoming adversity, even the adversity and the shortcomings we find right inside ourselves. And if her characters can (sometimes even humorously) overcome them, then we can to!

Love really does conquer all in this delightful holiday tale.

So give yourself a gift - don't miss out on this one - you will laugh, you will cry, you will certainly swoon (more Keegan with Purr Snickety, anyone?), and maybe even yell (more than once) at the fictional characters that grace the pages. But in the end, in true Kerry-fashion, you will be satisfied, uplifted, and encouraged by this story of hope and love - of a beautiful couple coming together, despite their differences, and against the odds.

I highly recommend this first installation and can't wait for more wonderful stories of the Brewer Brides!

A Sweet Christmas Romance

A Sweet Christmas Romance
I am a huge fan of Kerry Evelyn, so when I got a chance to read One Margarita a little early, I jumped on it. This is first in a new series, but the characters are from the Palmer City Voltage series, which I plan to start reading asap. You don’t need to read that series to enjoy this one, though. The characters are so real, with real life problems that they need to conquer in order to stay together. It’s a sweet romance, and it ends at Christmas, with lots of fun holiday traditions. I could not put it down, it was so much fun! If you know anyone with OCD or ADHD, this is definitely for you, and it has lots of hockey in it as well! I love hockey, but you don’t need to follow the sport to enjoy this book! I highly recommend this one, and all of Kerry’s other books! Perfect for fans of so many tropes: enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, opposites attract….. Try it! I know you’ll love it!

What I loved about this book was the dual perspective of the two love interests. I thought it jumped smoothly back and forth. I also loved the nuances of Keegan and Astoria, both the ones they shared and the ones that almost drove them apart. There is so much happening, it should appeal to everyone who enjoys sweet clean romance books.

I really wanted to love this book. I love the plot and I loved Keegan, but here are the things I didn’t love. Maybe another reader won’t take issue with them.

    1) I didn’t like Astoria at all and I felt like she used her ADHD as an excuse to not do things or to not be a thoughtful person.

    2) I didn’t like all the “unique” names. It felt like when I was in Junior High and I wished I had a more interesting name, so I made a list of what I considered interesting names. It was just too much.

    3) I didn’t like the text message text. I know some people get into that- I find it incredibly annoying and a little bit lazy.

    4) It felt overall a little bit high school ish- the word “peopling” was used as a verb twice.

I won’t read a sequel, but Keegan and his family and Astoria’s family are fun to read about and I wish the best for them. I hope in future books Astoria grows up a little bit.

Other than the items mentioned above, I was fine with the writing style. It was a quick read until Astoria got too annoying, then I had to push through it. Again, other than Astoria entirely, it was the perfect Hallmark story.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is the first book in the Brewer Brides Series and can be read as a standalone. (Characters from the author's Palmer City books make an appearance and they can be a bit hard to keep track of but you won't dislike them.) The book's blurb is straightforward. Brewer Brides is told from Astoria and Keegan's pov and is a sweet grumpy and sunshine romance. Keegan likes to have order and plans to follow. His focus is on perfecting a craft brew to be a signature at his family's restaurant. When Astoria, a childhood friend, asks him for help to create a beer for her restaurant he sees her as competition and isn't keen on helping her. But, as they come to a beneficial agreement, Keegan can't help but to say yes to her and want to rekindle their friendship. Because of their differences in personalities and how Keegan viewed her as competition, their romance was a slow burn. However, the fact that they were childhood friends made it easy for them to ease back into an easy friendship and readers will love seeing them rekindle their friendship. Their romance was a clean one consisting of kissing and no foul language was used. Aside from the romance, I enjoyed reading about the celebrations their town celebrated. It was a great introduction to the series and I can't wait to read more.
