Why Do We Worship Them?: The Truth Behind Our Blind Faith in Modern-Day Gods Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

Why do we follow celebrities, influencers, politicians, and spiritual leaders so blindly—even when the truth is staring us in the face?

We defend them. We worship them. We fight for them.
But do we really know
why?

In this bold, eye-opening book, Harshit Kapasi explores the hidden psychology behind human idol worship. From ancient pharaohs and spiritual gurus to modern-day film stars, sports icons, and social media influencers — this book uncovers the emotional, cultural, and psychological forces that make us follow people as if they’re divine.

Each chapter begins with a hard-hitting question — like:

  • Why do we trust them so blindly?

  • Are they really divine or just charismatic?

  • What happens when they break our trust?

  • Can we admire someone without losing ourselves?

Combining stories from history, real-life incidents, and sharp psychological insights, Why Do We Worship Them? will challenge the way you see the world — and yourself.

Why Do We Worship Them? is one of those rare books that feels simple on the surface but cuts surprisingly deep. It's written in a conversational Q&A format, which makes it easy to read, but the questions it raises stay with you long after you finish.

The author explores why we, as a society, tend to blindly follow celebrities, influencers, politicians, and other public figures — often without questioning their actions or intentions. What I appreciated most is that the tone isn't preachy or judgmental. Instead, it invites you to think for yourself and reflect on your own habits, beliefs, and assumptions.

Some lines really made me pause and reconsider the way I consume content and engage with people online. If you're someone who enjoys books that challenge your perspective without overwhelming you, this is definitely worth a read. It's short, thought-provoking, and timely in today's world of social media idols and fan culture.

    Highly recommended.

A bold, thought-provoking read that challenges blind devotion to celebrities, leaders, and influencers. Why Do We Worship Them? asks uncomfortable questions in a relatable, Q&A style that sparks deep reflection. Perfect for readers who enjoy questioning societal norms and seeking their own truth.

This book doesn’t claim to have all the answers, and that’s what makes it great. It’s an exploration, not a lecture. The author asks things I didn’t even realize needed to be asked — like why we associate fame with truth, or how admiration slowly turns into dependency. I appreciated that it never points fingers. It simply holds up a mirror and lets you draw your own conclusions.

Why Do We Worship Them? is a deep, insightful examination of the human instinct to idolize and elevate individuals, ideas, and institutions. With a thoughtful and questioning approach, The author challenges readers to reconsider the reasons behind the admiration and blind reverence often given to public figures, leaders, and even cultural symbols.

The writing style is clear, engaging, and persuasive, making complex psychological and societal concepts easy to grasp. Kapasi uses real-world examples and historical references to show how worship shapes personal identities and collective behavior. Rather than simply criticizing the phenomenon, the author offers a balanced view — acknowledging that admiration can inspire growth, while also warning about the dangers of uncritical devotion.

One of the book’s biggest strengths is its ability to connect personally with readers. Author’s probing questions encourage self-reflection: Are we worshiping true values, or merely images crafted by society? Are our heroes truly deserving, or are they products of manipulation? These reflections make the book not just a commentary, but a personal journey for every reader.

Moreover, the book is well-structured, with each chapter naturally leading to the next, building a strong, coherent argument. Author’s tone remains respectful yet bold, pushing readers to think without making them feel judged.

A brilliant, necessary read for anyone curious about the human psyche, social behaviors, and the deeper meaning of devotion. Highly recommended.

"Why do we worship them?" is a need of the hour, as most politicians and saints are making their all-out efforts to misuse the blind faith and belief of the people.
The other celebrities are also misusing their fame in the line of politicians. In the world of manipulation and hypocrisy, reasoning and logic have lost their sharpness. The author, Mr. Kapasi, has intelligently attacked people's psychological conditioning in such a way that they have no choice but to introspect within and ask themselves why we were made fools. For how long have we been fooled? And why will we remain fools? For how long will we let the maneuver sit in our minds to drive wherever they want?
The praiseworthiness of the book is mainly due to the coverage of most things relating to content in a short, sweet manner with thought-provoking ideas and questionnaires.
He has best tried to wake people from their deep slumber of blind faith and ignorance.
    Appreciated and Highly recommended.
