What do I write?

I write fantasy because the world we live in can feel like a trap.

I write sci-fi because I like to toy with worlds, universes, and cultures. I like to play god. I write horror as a kind of decadence. I mean, who doesn’t like writing that bleeds?

Regardless of what type of speculative fiction I write, you can expect that it will be dark. Whether my inspiration comes from a shiver crawling up my spine while darting across a dark parking lot, a fascination with Gothic heroines and their delightful kidnappability, or a desire to build a world to suit a spiffy MMO character, that dark undercurrent of fear makes me feel alive.

    This is such a well-written and intriguing story, with troubled characters, and a heck of world-building.
    Jaisa needs to go through several tests in order for the "gods", an alien race that mostly obliterated the human race except for a handful of beautiful people (the Companions), to serve those whom the "gods" believe will make the greater good: the Chosen. Of course, any decent conquest from godawful aliens need servants that are less than nothing to keep the world running, so there's also a set of humans living in terrible conditions that perform that job.
    The gods bend them to their will and they expect the humans to be... nonhumans: no feelings, no rebellions thoughts; just submissive. Jaisa, our heroine, is all but dead and alone. How can she survive? How can anyone survive after this?
    here is light at the end of the tunnel even if that light is far away and dim. Could Jaisa and the rest survive enough to reach it? Jaisa is strong and willing to submit to the gods in order to live, but soon she'll realize there's more than just living and she might be the hope of hundreds of humans.
    That is how the story starts.

    What happens if the aliens win? I can’t get enough of this series or this author. The writing is superb and the characters have so many intricate layers. I can read this several times and pick up something new each time I read it.

    An excellent if brutal dystopia after the takeover of earth by aliens. The society setup post the annihilation of most of mankind, ruled by the alien “gods” is a terrifying concept, yet feasible, which makes it all the more powerful as a story. Some of the characters are not always likeable, but their motivations are understandable, even for some that end up on the wrong side. And the ones who are inspiring also seem real. The drive to survive is very powerful for humans, but when would enough be enough? An excellent but dark series, the only bit I didn’t like at all is that Grace got left behind. Hint hint Jesse! Will definitely be reading the sequel & any other books by this author.
