Folkloric: A Rip-Roaring Fae Mystery (The Folkloric Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Where the fae and human realms meet…
Same old sleepy small-town France. I spend my days serving patisserie badly to the outlandish crowd at the café, and writing folklore research papers that will never, ever be published.
That’s until my clanger of a drunken hookup with the town’s hot new doctor, who turns into a hideous drac and eats Grampi’s favourite goat. Oh, and not to mention, a troop of ragtag fae storms my home, a fatal illness devastates the town, and a fae curse threatens Grampi’s life.
I may be having trouble accepting this new and delightful side of reality, but my knowledge of folklore means I have a shot at sorting this whole mess out before the town and everything I love is destroyed. The only thing is, I’ll have to work with the devious, scumbag doctor (he’s still picking goat out of his teeth). And he just might be the biggest challenge of all.
With flawed characters and strong emotional arcs, the Folkloric series weaves a beguiling hidden fae world with epic stakes, all the feels and delectable series-wide, slow-burn romance. The chosen one and the perfect hero were so traumatised by the goblins, they upped and left for another book.

About the author

Karenza Grant writes fun and feisty urban fantasy with plenty of humour and a little slow-burn romance.
Her early years in Cornwall were largely the source of her fascination with all things mysterious. She lived below a hill reputed to be the Cornish residence of the Unseelie Court, and the local myths got their claws in. Now she’s inspired by a broad range of creators from Jim Henson, Arthur Rackham, and Olivier de Marliave, to a whole host of amazing authors on the urban fantasy scene. Currently, she’s enjoying weaving her love of France into page-turning stories.
She has three black cats known as The Three Guardians, and a crazy lab x spaniel who is just about the only thing that can extract Karenza from her writing desk—if the pooch isn’t walked, the legions of hell will be released.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2024Fairy tales and stories of wee ones are what children grow up listening to, many times lulling them into sweet dreams. That's all fine and dandy until you grow older and wiser. As adults, we "know" the happy fairytales of our childhood are nothing more than stories meant to entertain and amuse. They aren't real.
But what if they were real? And what if they were much darker and more dangerous than even our adult minds could imagine?
Karenza Grant takes the reader to those dark alternatives in her first book of the Folkloric Series, cleverly ripping off the blinders of our youth and exposing the various levels of Fae to our adult imagination Her vivid descriptions of not only the characters, but also the landscape and "history" of Fae and it's inhabitants opens up a new level of understanding of where those childhood tales lead to. At the same time, she imbues her characters with humour, grit, determination, courage, and as in the case of Lucas, charming sexiness that makes it hard for the reader not to root for. A MUST read for anyone who is into folklore, tales of faeries, or just likes a great read! I can't wait for book 2!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2024I love fantasy rooted in folklore and this was enough different that it sparked my interest. So glad I took the chance to read it. I've not read up or heard stories about the folklore of the Pyrenees, it was like a new door opened up and sucked me in. Great story so far, the mix of today's world interacting with fae was excellent. I loved the snippets of local folklore and stories woven in, masterfully done! The characters are wonderful, and i can't wait to see what happens with the two main characters. Looking forward to read the second in the series.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024Reading this fun, exciting, and incredible story from a truly masterful story teller has been an awesome experience. First, I love a good story and secondly, I love folklore. Put this together with some magic, super wonderful characters, and set it in a French village and you have yourself a fantastic read. Can't wait to read book 2...Oh, I really wish I lived in this village!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2024I was not able to fully immerse myself in this world, but did find several things that I liked: Grampi, The Men, and the goats.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2024This one had me flipping pages as fast as my eyes could read. Camille is an analytical, stubborn, and suffering PTSD. Grampi is not improving, and fae are everywhere. No time for besties, and a decision is looming as to being a Keeper. Doc Lucas is chasing the sickness killing folks, and Camille is making strange friends. Plus a new brioche baker must be hired before Ines falls over. Great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2024This is the first book I've ever read with French folklore and legends. As I was reading, I found myself searching the internet for images of the creatures Grant described and for any little bit of information I could find. I loved that her book wasn't filled with the same fae creatures that I've read about all my life.
I loved how Camille had spent her whole life researching folklore and myths but didn't actually believe in them. Her compassion and patience with Grampi were heartwarming, and I truly enjoyed how Grant made it so that he could only talk about his goats.
The D&D gang that hung out at the bakery was reminiscent of my teen years, except that I wasn't one of the girls taunting the "nerds"; I was one of the "nerds".
The way Fairy bordered our world and the travel through Fairy were set up splendidly. I especially enjoyed the rocks in Fairy.
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a little mystery to go with their urban fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adult fairy tales, anyone e
As a 60 year old who has missed fairy stories, I am absolutely loving this book. The author draws you in with the characters and I find it hard to put down. Can't wait to read more of this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive beginning!
Folkloric (Folkloric #1) by Karenza Grant marks the true beginning of an intriguing new series. While events from the prequel (Folkloric Fae, Folkloric #0.5) are briefly mentioned in passing, it’s not necessary to read the prequel before diving into this book—it stands perfectly well on its own.
The story is set in a richly imagined world inspired by French small-town folklore, which adds a unique and enchanting charm to the narrative. The FMC is unexpectedly thrust into the mysterious and dangerous realm of the fae, struggling to believe and adapt to the reality of their existence. Her journey of discovery and adjustment feels authentic and relatable, drawing readers deeper into the story.
The plot is fast-paced, keeping the pages turning, while the character development is impressive, with each figure adding depth and complexity to the unfolding tale. The book provided an excellent blend of intrigue, suspense, and emotional growth, making it a fantastic start to the series.
I’m thoroughly impressed and excited to dive deeper into this captivating world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing
I brought this book whilst I was recovering from surgery. Firstly intrigued by the title and my curiosity on a writers interpretation of the Fae. Very glad that I got this book,as I have avoided fantasy books up until now. This book is page turner, homourous and deals with the dilemas that the characters face, adeptly.
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy
Worthy read. My husband and son had a giggle at the 'High Elf' when I read some quotes out. They both are D&D players.
Yes it all starts there, lol.
