Hearts on Fire: Part 2 (Fire in Stone) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 225 ratings

"And that was our tragedy. The life of the man I loved depended on the life of the man I hated so fiercely."

Conclusion to the Fire in Stone duet.
Now stolen myself and brought into the world I never planned to come to, I have to try hard to survive. Or die like so many do around me.
A war is raging in Dakath, and I don’t belong on either side of it. I can’t trust anyone in the king’s castle, not even Elex. His life is tied to the king, who is the most despicable man among the dragons. The gargoyles at King Edkhar’s Court are stronger, faster, more ruthless than I could ever be. But as the only human in the kingdom where everyone turns to stone at sunset, I may have an advantage still.
No one knows what I’m capable of to protect those I love. An incredible power lies inside me—the power of human love.

The world building in this fantasy romance duology was lush and vibrant. The characterization was nuanced and these protagonists were deeply sympathetic. I also appreciated that in this second duology in the series, the hero and heroine spent the majority of both parts together and interacting, as it should be in a romance novel. This author sometimes has a tendency occasionally to have the main protagonists separated for most of the novel, which I as a romance genre reader really dislike. The plotting was tight and exciting, the external conflict was really high stakes, and there was plenty of action and political intrigue, which I really enjoyed. The development of the romantic relationship was also sweet and sizzling, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this second duology in this series. I enjoyed it FAR more than the first duology.

This is book two and the final book of Elex and Amber’s story in the magical world created by Marina Simcoe.

Her world building and plot crafting are as magical as her characters, in my opinion.

Always a happy ending with enough drama and excitement along the way to make it a captivating read.

Elex is not a dark hero. He’s a good man who needs help and Amber is just as honorable. These are two souls who help each other to be better people and want to make their world better as well.

There are some dark moments but they make the happy ending even better as all the characters strive for a better world.

The ending seemed a little rushed but maybe that’s because I didn’t want the story to end.

All the pieces came together with a lovely twist.

The bad guys get what they deserve and the good people win the day. I can’t ask for much better than that.

I highly recommend everything by this author.

Oh, I feel so bad for Amber for a while, as it appears she is abandoned in a rather hostile situation. But she makes friends there. She’s a strong woman. Things aren’t always as they first appear, however. The misunderstandings in the story abound. Assumptions are made, dangerous situations arise, intriguing twists surprise me. Elex is such a sweetheart! His love for Amber never falters. I love that he’s able to come to her rescue at the most fortuitous times! It’s truly hilarious to see what can be accomplished when you are the only one not turned to stone after sundown. This romance is entertainment at its finest!

I enjoyed both books. I loved how Amber came into her own powers as well. I always worry whenever one of the main characters is human and the other lives a much longer lifespan. It was good to know they wouldn’t have to suffer life without each other.

So, this book has Voron in it, and he is the male main character in another set of books in this series. I guess those are meant to be read after this one, but I read them way before. It doesn't mess up the series at all, but I kind of wish I had read them in order. Anyway, this book series was great! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and highly recommend it.

I find this author finishes strongly.
While I still want more from the spice scenes, they are better than the first
It’s a sweet story in an ever growing realm. I hope to continue to read about the other characters that dwell there
