An Accidental Meeting: A Pride and Prejudice Novella (The Accidental Love Series) Kindle Edition
Fitzwilliam Darcy has been working to improve himself since Elizabeth Bennet’s scorching rejection of his proposal four months ago. When he discovers her touring his home with her relations, he invites them to stay, hoping that this time, there will be no mistaking his ardent admiration.
Elizabeth is just trying to fall in love in peace. But when she and Darcy stumble across a hidden treasure, her visit at Pemberley becomes a study in character to rival any London season. And it isn't just Mr. Darcy's character that is more intricate than she expected.
An Accidental Meeting is the fourth and final standalone novella in the Accidental Love Series. If you enjoy funny stories with smitten heroes, clever heroines, and more than a dash of romance in the regency world of Pride and Prejudice, this is the series for you.

About the author

Melanie Rachel is a Jane Austen variation author who believes that the only thing better than a dashing hero is one who knows how to handle an unexpected adventure—or perhaps just a stubborn heroine. When she's not busy plotting how to put Darcy and Elizabeth in any number of predicaments, you can find her sipping tea and pretending it's still 1811.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025Very well written, imaginative and enjoyable story. And always a plus when it takes place at pemberley. Only regret is not to see bingley and Jane in the epilogue.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024What a great book from author Melanie Rachel. I got completely wrapped up in Darcy and Elizabeth seeing one another at Pemberly! Teresa's so much to enjoy! Darcy has Darcy relatives in this one, hidden treasure, and a sweet, lovable Mr.
Darcy.
I would have given 5 stars, but there were quite a few errors found in this book. Not enough to deter my enjoyment, however.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025...the fifth star is just for the parting line. A pleasurable read for me. An original story line that serves from canon in an amusingly different direction. Great editing by the way, thanks! Bonus points for not having simple-minded, excruciatingly boring Jane. Lizzy is intelligent and quick and I just can figure out her obviously blind loyalty to Jane...I digress...the book is a good read and just long enough for a good long soak in the tub. Oh, and she kept Lydia and Wickam's inclusion to a minimum even as they are a necessary plot need. 😊 Read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024I've enjoyed this book, having read it several times and now reading it with my wife.
So much of the original P&P illustrates the results of poor communication skills of everyone involved. This version looks at things a bit differently. The events begin with Elizabeth visiting Pemberley, just as she did in the original. On the tour of the home, they stand before an almost life-sized picture of Darcy. Elizabeth falls deep in thought, but when Mrs. Reynolds notices the picture is out of kilter, she pulls on the frame to straighten it, knocking it off the wall. Elizabeth calls for help, and guess who comes running?
Later, the Gardiners and Lizzy are walking in the park where the Gardiners bring up Lizzy's reaction to Mr. Darcy, making her think in community rather than privately. (Mr. Darcy acting gentlemanly?) Then Mr. Darcy appears and invites them to dinner. Mr. Gardiner questions Darcy about this (as he does other times as well), showing that he cares for his niece rather than social advancement.
That theme of good communication permeates the book, and in contrast to that you see the results of poor communication as well (Miss Bingley is a prime example). Wickham and Lydia are show up at Pemberley as well, and things don't work out well for them - at least one of them. You meet two new (and very wise) characters - Judge and Mrs. Darcy - Mr. Darcy's granduncle and Aunt.
There are lots of weddings, some you see and others you only hear about. Mrs. Caroline (Bingley) Darcy finally gets the husband she is truly longing for. Hidden Treasure finally discovered, and more importantly, family re-united. What's that about Mrs. Caroline Darcy? Where does Elizabeth fit in there? I guess you'll just have to read the book to find out!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024Beneficial to have read P & P. Always appreciate a story with the Gardiners taking lead. This one mixes in an Aunt & Uncle Darcy. I like stories that depict the Hursts as a little better, but this one has them as a little worse and Caroline a little better, which was interesting twist. Minor spoiler...Always glad when Lydia isn't forced to marry Wickham. Sweet romance that develops between Darcy & Elizabeth with some great dialog. Loved Mrs. Reynolds. Super ending line.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024I was not ready for the story to end. Which is the mark of a solid read IMO. One pivotal scene conjured up an image from the Wizard of Oz movie and I had to laugh out loud. I will say (without danger of spoilers) that one character went off the Austen path and while a bit fun to explore, I couldn't quite accept this character's reversal and ultimate marriage partner. Something about that seemed wrong. ; ) Read it and you'll see.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2024I like the length. I love Darcy and Elizabeth's interactions. The allusions to the historical events of the time was interesting.
I really liked Darcy's plan regarding Lydia.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024What I enjoyed about this variation is how it takes place at Pemberley for their chance meeting after the terrible proposal at Kent. It is unfortunate during the tour of the great house Mrs. Reynolds the housekeeper is injured but this leads to our favorite couple connecting once again.
The best parts are from the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner and Judge Darcy and his wife, Nora. Both couples make for humorous antics and dialogue throughout the story to help the characters find their way to love.
There are unexpected twists with Mr. Bingley’s family and the interference of Wickham and Lydia’s elopement. You expect the Bennet family crisis to come in a letter as usual but you are relieved when instead the wayward couple shows up at Pemberley’s doorsteps.
This is a good read and a perfect addition to the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Final Book of the ‘Accidental’ Series
This novella begins while Elizabeth Bennet and the Gardiners are visiting Pemberley, a familiar beginning to many variations. In An Accidental Meeting, Melanie Rachel provides avid readers of this genre with an original, refreshing and unexpected twist to the usual Pemberley reunion that will have you engaged at the start. At the same time, that scene also establishes the beginning of a mystery that unfolds later in the story.
Naturally, Elizabeth and the Gardiners are invited stay at Pemberley and join the usual house party that is to arrive the next day. You will enjoy the wit and humour that is sustained throughout the book, and along with some Darcy family history, will keep you turning the pages to ‘the end’.
Mrs. Reynolds plays a pivotal role at the start this story. I was especially touched by Darcy’s reliving a memory about her following the death of his mother, when she gave him a key to a special room. It made me weep with the sentimentality of it all.
“The housekeeper had met Darcy when he was four years old. But they had become friends when he was twelve.” —quote from book
Darcy’s final proposal is perfect. Le sigh.
Melanie Rachel says this is the fourth and final standalone novella in the Accidental Love Series. If I was forced to choose just one book from the series, An Accidental Meeting would it be it—but please don’t ask me to choose. They all have a clever premise are well written, and contain a great plot. If you haven’t read the previous three books in this stand-alone series, you really should!
Highly recommend.
Kisses only.
I received an arc of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review, and have purchased the published version for my Kindle library.

5.0 out of 5 stars An accidental meetig
When Elizabeth and her relations are in Derbyshire they visit Pemberley. Elizabeth is witness to an accident and one of the first to help is none other than Mr Darcy. The latter seizes his opportunity and invites Elizabeth and the Gardiners to stay at Pemberley. His aim is to prove to Elizabeth that he is a changed man and he hopes for a second chance. Elizabeth is more than willing to do so and encounters hidden sides of Mr Darcy. When they discover a hidden secret at Pemberley it is not only Darcy's true character that is revealed. Will they be able to reach an understanding? Or are there nevertheless obstacles that will prevent a future together? And what about the secret they have discovered?
This sweet and lovely story was very well written by the author Melanie Rachel. I like her stories very much. An accidental meeting is the fourth and last book of The accidental love series, but all books can be read separately, you do not need to read them in order.
I really like Darcy and Elizabeth in this story. They have both overcome their prejudices and are secretly in love with each other. I like that Darcy, after the accident, has the courage to ask Elizabeth and her relatives to stay at Pemberley. Them staying there means that they have a secluded environment in which their love can develop from a secret love to an open one and this change in plan also affords their relationship more time to grow. Needless to say that their love is obvious for everyone except them 😉. I like the little gestures Darcy makes to show Elizabeth his regard and that she is important to him. I really liked his way of solving the Lydia/Wickham debacle and the way he finally comes to an understanding with Elizabeth.
I like that Elizabeth is able to see Darcy in his familiar background without many interruptions and that she can understand his feelings and doings concerning his dealings with all that involves the family secret. And I really appreciate that she is willing to let him go to distance himself from her fallen family because she wants him to marry her only for love and not out of obligation, regardless of her own wishes to marry.
In the book are many lovable side characters. I really liked Uncle Hugh and Aunt Nora. They were so supportive to Darcy and Elizabeth and they immediately comprehend the amorous situation of the two and try to help as best as they can, even with a little scheming.
I find Miss Bingley also very likeable in this story. She is actually clever and accepts that she can't have Darcy because he is in love with Elizabeth. Because of an interest, unbeknownst to us until now, she later finds her own happiness and I am quite happy for her. I also like that, in this version, Lydia's fate is a much better one than in Jane Austen's story. But I won't tell you the details, you need to read for yourself.
Naturally there are also some villains in the story. Wickham is definitely his usual self, even a bit more the scoundrel than ever. But thankfully, in the end, he gets what he deserves. There are also some unexpected villains in the story but Darcy and his party can deal with them quite efficiently.
Throughout the whole book Darcy and Elizabeth deal with the Darcy family secret. This mystery was nicely woven into the story and the search for the truth and evidence was told in a really good way.
If you like Darcy and Elizabeth coming to an understanding while staying at Pemberley and discovering a family secret you should definitely read this book.
I highly recommend it.
Don't forget to read the super cute bonus epilogue mentioned in the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok read
I always read Melanie Rachel's variations and a few of them are among my favourites. An accidental meeting I think is the best among the Accidental Love Series but these series, in my opinion, are not as good as her full length novels. I really enjoyed the first half of An Accidental Meeting but I thought some of the developments were not very realistic (The Hursts; Wickham). Judge Darcy and his wife are definitely too good to be true but I liked them. I was disappointed when they slowly but surely faded in the background in the second half of the story. I confess I failed to appreciate the whole plot around the French cousins . I found Elizabeth's excitement about this particular mystery a bit overdone, childish, bordering on silly, not appealing, at least not to me. The end of the book felt rushed and I ended the book a bit disappointed. This variation is still worth a read though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
The premise of the book is excellent and the plot very well developed. I like that ODC wasn't interrupted while in Pemberly and could understand more of each other's feelings on that ground. The mistery around the plot is also amazing and very clever. If allowed, one suggestion I'd made would be to see more romantic scenes between ODC, especially during their courting period. In my opinion, they were lacking. Nonetheless, it doesn't take the greatness of the story, which is still deserving of 5 stars. Well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Accident
This story by Melanie Rachel was fantastic. An easy...no angst read. The story takes place in Pemberly, the first proposal has already happened and Darcy is set on changing his ways...never expecting to see Elizabeth again...but...an accident occurs that puts our couple once again in each others company...and what a sweet and sour accident.
Loved it...read it. You wont be dissapointed!
