A Court of Hearts and Hunger: A Wonderland Retelling (Wicked Darlings Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,281 ratings

Just as Clara and her sister are settling into their new life, Drosselmeyer sends a desperate message to the Seelie Court. With Lir and Louisa occupied elsewhere, Clara and Finias (the Sugarplum Faerie) have no choice but to respond and forge deep into Unseelie Territory, where a cruel Queen, known as the Eater of Hearts, has taken the throne. As they infiltrate the Court of Dread, Finias and Clara are forced to keep their relationship a secret. Meanwhile, the ravenous victims of the Queen, called the Heartless, turn the Unseelie kingdom into a far more dangerous place than usual.

Brimming with drama, horror, and spice, this sequel to "A Court of Sugar and Spice" brings back Clara and Finias, while introducing new characters like the fiendishly hot Cheshire Cat, the enigmatic Rabbit, the terrifying Queen, and more.

Clara and Finias become aware of a human girl, Alice, being taken by the White Rabbit to the Dread Court, an Unseelie city. They set out to save her but learn of a new threat and obstacle - the new Unseelie Queen, the Eater of Hearts. Guys, this book is so good! It has the usual characters from Alice in Wonderland - Alice, the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Caterpillar, and the Queen of Hearts. This story is so imaginative and dark and I loved it! Finias is still a treat and I can’t get enough of him. He shows his vulnerability and shares his past more in this book and it just makes me love him that much more. The White Rabbit and The Cheshire Cat. Wow! I never thought I would find myself attracted to a rabbit and cat, but here we are. IFKYK. ❤️💚

This book is an excellent follow up to book one with Clara.
It brings Alice and the rabbit into it along with the cat! Love the twists and turns and unexpectedness. The queen was perfect, and I loved how she was ended.

Just like everything else Iv read from Rebecca this book was absolute perfection ! Wonderland retelling while we still get characters from the first book !

    ** Check trigger warnings!!!
This book had some moments that might not be for everyone . Definitely a dark fantasy at moments

    *wonderland retelling
    *falling for your capture

    *multiple pov
    *🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I flew through this book . I was just completely consumed .

Alice finds herself taken to the fae realm. Where she’s to be tortured till the white rabbit can concoct the perfect spell to save all of fairie. But the longer she’s around the white rabbit and his cat friend she realizes there’s something between them . Can they come together and save the fae realm ?

As Clara and fin race into the unseelie court to save the human who was kidnapped Clara realizes there might be things about fins past that she doesn’t know about . But the must put everything they have into saving Alice from the unseelie who have captured here all while saving the kingdom from the unseelie queen .

The fact that book one was a nutcracker retelling and book 2 was wonderland was absolutely fantastic! I didn’t know how she was gonna make that work but my god she did . The fact we get fin and Clara in book two while also getting a whole new story in it as well was fantastic. Rebecca did an amazing job blending everything together .

And the spice !! Ohh man … perfect . Definitely some dark moments both spice and not spicy but it totally worked and added to the story . These twisted tales are truly amazing and can’t wait for book three .. oz retelling ? Hellz yeah !

I love these books so much. They have everything I love in a story, fantasy, spice, and plenty of darkness 🤌🏻 however any time I don’t do 5 stars it is usually because of the writing. And typically it’s spelling errors or plot holes but these books it was the lack of world building. It felt very rushed. I loved the amount of dialogue but I just felt like it was somewhat disjointed if that makes sense. Anyone else whose read it get me? In most parts there was some scene description but it was mostly dialogue back and forth without much explanation on what the character is doing and it all progressed so fast. Even the biggest part of the book (the beating of the villain) just feels so rushed. The first book was similar but was a little better in that context. But I will be reading more happily :) that’s just why it’s a 4 star for me

Rebecca knows how to bring the dark truth of the fairytales we grew up reading to light. Grimms Fairytales with a sprinkling of smut to make it even better.

I read this book a while ago, but a lot has happened over the last couple of weeks, so I am a bit late on my review 🙂 This book is a retelling on Alice in Wonderland. It is a unique perspective based in Fae, in the Unseelie Court. This book is beautifully written. I really love reading this author and look forward to reading more.

This book is number 2 in the Wicked Darlings series. You need to read book 1 before reading book 2. A couple of my favorite characters from the first book are some of the main side characters in A Court of Hearts and Hunger. I enjoy Clara and Fin (the Sugarplum Fairy) so much and I love how much they each grew in this story. I enjoyed meeting some new characters as well: Alice, Riordan (the White Rabbit), and Caer (The Cheshire Cat).

I pretty much read this book in one day, it is very hard to put down. This book does contain trigger warnings. It is a dark read and very spicy. I did end up giving this book 4 stars even though I really liked it. The reason for this is I am salty about the end of the book. I wont give it away. My hope is it resolves itself as part of book 3 🙂 So we shall see.

This book was better than I imagined, I absolutely devoured this one. I will say it was a bit frustrating to read about Clara and her Sugarplum but then divide it with Alice’s story. Every time I was getting hooked with each characters pov, it would change into a different one. And while I understand they were connected it still was difficult to interchange, at least for me. I loved this retelling, but I think there is on the market, I wish there was more to the story with the Queen, and the MMCs, but I get it was more about Clara, Sugarplum, and Alice. Hopefully the next book will provide a HEA instead of happy for now.
    Substance: 5/5
    Spice 2.5/5 🌶️(still good).
    Ending: Happy for now situation.

What a sequel. Loved it even more than the first. I need more about Alice, White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat. I really hope they get a Happy ending in the next book. This plot was much more compelling than the other one even though less spicy (still really 🔥) and I loved to read another side of Fin, the deepness of his self. The more I read this series the more I fall in love, wished it never ended.

This one took me a bit longer to get through than the first one, due to the whole cannibalism aspect, be warned, it’s a little gory at times. The storyline was exciting and frustrating in equal parts, with the introduction of some new characters. I could see at the end of this book how’ve they’ve alluded to the next instalment and I look forward to reading more. Please check your trigger warnings, happy reading!
