The end was better
This book was redeemable for two reasons.
1) I really enjoyed the Leo/Chloe relationship. I found myself rooting for them.
2) The end was so much better than the rest of the book.
Let me say that I like the concept; there's something so warm and fuzzy about the fall-for-the-best-friend's-brother schtick. However, I felt the writing fell short. It was extremely exposition all and I found myself getting bored with the staccato, telling-not-showing writing. I felt like the book should have been limited to Leo's and Chloe's POVs as well. I see why the random POVs were included, but really, they were unnecessary.
I also thought that, while there was a lot of telling, there's wasn't much explaining. I get it, teenagers/young people don't always talk things out, but I feel like what happened between Chloe and Leo was sudden and confusing for me. On that vein, The author glided over years of story and it was off-putting. I think she could've started with the prologue about meeting the Mackeys and then jumping into Senior year where things really started to heat up.
I was annoyed by grammatical and punctuation errors ("moment" was always capitalized). Her beta readers or whoever she used to proofread fell short in many ways.
