4.8 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

In this stunning debut, Mili Fay brings the story of a child's first haircut to life. Taken to a hair salon by his mother, the little boy is the only one not startled by the sudden appearance of endangered animals tumbling from his overgrown mop of hair! This modern fairytale introduces numbers, colors, and some lesser known animals to the reader, while beautiful illustrations hide educational secrets and excite imagination.

Review

"This is a magnificently and richly illustrated picture book. The premise is simple, but the execution is divine. Each page is filled with gorgeous illustrations and imbued with concepts such as: counting, colors, and (both familiar and rare) animals. The pace of the story makes it impossible to put down. The tone makes it a joy to read. It is only full of fun and good things. This is probably one of my favorite picture books of all-time."

The idea of this story is so completely original it is impossible to not fall in love with it! And, as if that was not enough, Ms. Fay has graced every page with her completely original and beautiful artwork making this a treasure of treasures. No library is complete without this gem!

Mili Fay has created a charming story, with engagingly illustrated characters, and a clever eBook format.

I read "Animals In My Hair" from the perspective of a parent who has read a lot of books to her children when they were in their younger years, and as an expectant grandmother who is looking forward to reading this story to my grandchild.

This book is a treasure that will spoken of long after it is read.

The illustrations steal the show. It feels like a shy new friend in kindergarten is telling me a magical story about her first haircut. Also I'm almost 30 and I learnt 3 new animal names.

A simple story of a girl's first haircut takes on epic proportions as the barber pulls one animal after another out of her 'forest' of hair. Helps to teach numbers and colours to young readers along with well-known and little known domestic (Canadian) animals. The illustrations are detailed and rich, and this book is worth every penny just for the plentiful and gorgeous artwork in it. - Preston Squire, Author of Isecas The Dream Cat

While I have no little ones in my life to whom to read Animals in my Hair, I enjoyed reading every word myself while reveling in Mili Fay's incredible illustrations. I highly recommend this book to all, especially those who are facing their first haircut. Parents, I'm sure this story will make the experience easier for them and possibly you as well.
