A Place to Call Home (Oregon Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 793 ratings

Together, Luke and Nora survived the hardships and dangers along the Oregon Trail in 1851. What started out as a marriage of convenience between a woman living as a man and a former prostitute slowly grew into love.

But now that they have arrived in Oregon City, the real adventure is just beginning. Winter is approaching, and they need to claim a piece of land and build a cabin, all while trying to establish their new roles as life partners and parents.

Will they find a place to call home and, more importantly, a way to grow as a couple?

“A Place to Call Home” is a lesbian historical romance short story that continues Jae’s award-winning Oregon series. It picks up directly after the end of Backwards to Oregon.

Jae is the author of twenty-six award-winning sapphic romances. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.

She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.

When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of sapphic books, indulges her ice cream and stationery addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.

First of all, JAE is a fantastic writer. And she has an incredible range of characters/times/locations for you to enjoy. I've read most of her work, but this series is still my favorite. The research she did to be sure she was accurate about the history and locales along the Oregon Trail is amazing. The story is one everyone should know, because it is true to stories of that time and today. Women have loved women forever. And many of them had to pass as men for centuries in order to survive without marrying a man. Those are just facts, folks, not "woke liberal theories"! If you can't handle the truth, don't read it. If you don't read it, don't review it.

This is such an excellent addition to the Backwards to Oregon series. I've read the entire series (2 full - long! - books and 3 shorter ones), more than once.

I was initially unsure about reading a historical lesbian fiction series, given that it would be so hard to be a lesbian "back then," but Jae makes this a very plausible way to be who you are and find happiness, without sugarcoating it. (And we all know of women who've disguised themselves as men to get ahead/along in the world.)

The love, the sacrifices, the warmth, all of it is so real it jumps off the page.

Luke and Nora face a number of challenges as they establish their new home for their little family, but as they learn to share the labor, their mutual trust proves to be the best foundation their simple log cabin could ever have.

A Place to Call Home is a warm, tender story about family, trust, and the power of a loving partnership. Luke and Nora are engaging characters made even more compelling against the backdrop of the wild and beautiful Oregon frontier.

A story of life on the Oregon Trail. The energy of the journey biding a life. A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me 'reading.

This book is so hard warming. It left me with such a good feeling. I really enjoyed the storyline and all of the great characters. When anyone has a dream a lot of times, the road is hard getting there. Just don't give up and keep on working until you get there.

Luke & Nora and their hard-earned life together continue in this story that picks up at the end to Backwards to Oregon. This is one of my favorite series and all are now a yearly reread. Gift yourself this year with Jae’s terrific historical depiction of sapphic love, struggle and triumph in a time when such a Union was forbidden. In fact, buy EVERYTHING JAE HAS WRITTEN! It is all 5 Star!!!

If I understand the opening this is a lesbian couple with one of the females posing as a male in the west. Sorry, not interested in reading any further.

Family-don’t all of us long for the continuous bedrock of love and respect? Love-the unselfish desire for those we care about to be happy, at times above our own needs and desires. Resolve-the constancy to keep going despite the slings and arrows. A Place to Call Home describes a beautiful family. Are the details of gender so jarring to accept? To me the principles - the actions and conduct of the person are important. Try to see love, even in a manner different than you are accustomed to seeing. There are loving Christian lgbtq people all around us.

was wonderful. I enjoyed the whole series and have just started the audio of book one.
Well done Jae for bringing the characters to life, loved them all (with the exception of the baddies), but you have to have some less than salubrious folk to make the stories tick along.
