A Prayer Before Killing: A twisted and disturbing murder mystery (The Colin Buxton Series Book 3) Kindle Edition
When Colin Buxton arrives in Glasgow to care for his gravely ill mother, he’s drawn into a perplexing mystery: how a bangle that once belonged to a murdered nun has inexplicably appeared on the wrist of a statue of the Virgin Mary. With a priest having been convicted of the crime, could someone be trying to signal that justice wasn’t served?
As Colin delves deeper, he uncovers a group of teenage boys whose unsettling connection to the young nun raises troubling questions about the original investigation. And then there’s the school itself, whose dubious past may be concealing the truth. What secrets is the Catholic church hiding, and how far will they go to protect their own?
In A Prayer Before Killing, the third gripping novel in CC Gilmartin's Colin Buxton Series, dark truths emerge as Colin navigates a web of deception and betrayal, challenging everything he thought he knew about faith, loyalty, and justice.
Perfect for fans of JM Dalgliesh, LJ Ross, Simon McCleave and Rachel McLean

- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2025You know a book is really good when you get to the end and there is a previewfor the next one and you'rejust crushed at now far away it is! I don't want time to fly by, but gah 2026! I need the next Colin Buxton book !
I'm pretty much always here for a mystery steeped deep in the church or a cult. If you can somehow combine the two? Even better! The three Colin Buxton books offer three very different reading experiences, and I love it so much! I think this one is by far my favorite, and it will be hard to top it for me because of the subject matter. But I still look forward to seeing the authors' attempt!
Colin is such a great head detective. He's not your typical noir hero. Without giving any spoilers, we learn a lot more backstory in this book that helps grow his character even more. This seems pretty typical of book 3 in a series and I'm so excited to see it. Being a young, gayex-cop is far from the Only thing that makes our lead detective so unique.
I also really enjoyed the "apostles" and Caroline, who all brought so much joy and entertainment to the school setting. seeing Colin's relationship with his Mom was enlightening as well.
I'm always a huge fan of a good series, and this one has been building quite well. I really can't wait to see where the characters go and now the revelations in this book feed into the larger story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2025Dark and moody, this third book in the Colin Buxton series features Colin’s examination of the murder of a nun and the Priest convicted. But did he do it? The mix of the detective work and Colin’s home life with his mother and sister was well executed and made for rich world building. Perfect for fans of ‘Vera’ or ‘Shetland’.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2025Ok so these books are quickly becoming a top favorite for me. This is book 3 in this series and while you don't have to read the others in this series you should because they are just as good. So we're back with Collin who is back in Scotland to take care of his sick mom. He gets a job at a Catholic school and he's got to uncover what's going on. I mean this book had everything and i absolutely loved every minute of this book. I seriously couldn't put this book down. I loved how I had no idea who done it!!! I seriously can't wait for book 4. I hope don't have to wait to long
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2025So grateful to have this among my ebook collection. CC Gilmartin managed to keep the vibe of the British whodunit (from what I know seeing on TV here in the US) and the flow is continuous from each book. While you might lose some background into Colin’s history, the main focus is what he’s there to investigate so you don't necessarily have to start at the beginning with book one. Highly recommend this for someone looking for a great read and escape.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024A Prayer Before Killing is the third installment in the Collin Buxton series. After his Berlin adventure. Collin returned to Scotland to look after his sick mother. He works in a Catholic school in Glasgow. Two years before there was a murder in this school. There are many secrets in this school.
I received an advanced copy of this book.
It’s an exciting book. With great characters. You can read it as a standalone, but you can also start from the beginning of the series: All Mine Series.
I can’t wait to know what will happen to Collin next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping mystery
Thoroughly enjoyed this 3rd outing of Colin Buxton. The main story was engrossing and the creeping dread of another plotline also kept me hooked. Read it over one weekend, finding it hard to put down. Bring on book 4!
