4.6 out of 5 stars 44 ratings

A feel-good escapism romance that will whisk you away to the bustling central London hotel

Enjoy your stay at Hotel Mayfair…

Carrie loves her job as a patisserie chef at Lachlan McLeod’s castle, but she’s restless and feels suffocated by the remote location. She craves the excitement of London and wants a new adventure. So when Carrie’s offered a job at a five-star London hotel, she packs her bags and heads south for the summer.

Hotel Mayfair is at the heart of the bustling city. Carrie quickly forms friendships with the hotel’s eclectic group of staff. When the events planner quits, Carrie finds herself working closely with the hotel manager, Lucas. Neither of them can deny the spark between them, but Carrie’s only in London until the end of summer, and Lucas has commitments he can’t leave behind.

From tempting patisserie, good friends, and her new spring fling, Carrie finds herself caught up in the vibrancy of London, but is it all too much?

"I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic story set in...London. The glamour of beautiful wedding settings, scrumptious pastries, the contrast of the city and highlands of Scotland, all contributed to a wonderful feel-good escape." - Deborah Klee

I really enjoyed this one! Holland has a very Hallmark feel to her writing, which is great when you just want to relax and take a break with some sweet romance in fun settings. Loved the Down Syndrome rep with Lily, definitely not something you see a lot of in contemporary romance. And overall, just entertaining and easy to read. Perfect for fans of Susan Mallery.

Carrie is a skilled pastry chef who has a wonderful job working with dear friends in the Scottish Highlands. However, after a failed romance, she craves a change of scenery. She accepts a temporary position at the Mayfair Hotel in London, and almost immediately, sparks fly between herself and Lucas, the hotel manager and her boss. There is an endearing complication, Lucas's sister, Lily, who is under his care and who loves helping in the hotel's kitchen. This is a charming and satisfying romance that I recommend to all readers of the genre!

This book is a great read if you're looking for a feel-good romance with fun characters and friends who always have each other's backs.

The author has a fantastic writing style, and the book is edited well. There are many likeable characters and soooo many yummy desserts. My mouth was watering reading all the descriptions.

I was invested in the story and rooting for Carrie!

Well worth the purchase. I'll be on the lookout for other books by this author!

Note: This book would also make a great gift for someone who is embarking on a work trip or working vacation.

Spring Fling at the Mayfair Hotel
    Gets Five Stars
Ms Holland tugs at your heartstrings and will twist you into knots. This story of wanderlust, romance and tragic circumstances will take you from the wilds of the Scottish Highlands to the bustle of London’s Mayfair and back again.
After a brief romance in Scotland, Carrie seeks an adventure to satisfy her restless spirit. But the question is, does she play it safe and leave her friends Eve and Lachlan and their start-up hotel and restaurant and return to Lachlan’s five-star Michelin restaurant in London, or does she take a chance at a temporary position at the Mayfair Hotel as the Pâtissier?
Dtermine to strike out on her own, she rejects the safe option and accepts the position at the Mayfair.
On entering the posh Hotel, she is confronted by luxury she has never experienced before. And after the cool reception from the handsome manager Lucas, Carrie is unsure if she made the right choice. Coupled with being housed in a whole suite of rooms in the best part of the Hotel, sets of bells and whistles in Carrie’s brain as she discovers the secrets of the Mayfair. Will she run or stay?
As bizarre as the situation appears, it is nothing to the electric attraction she feels for the Hotel’s Manager. Yet it is her quirky yet loveable assistant with a fetish for sugary treats and a habit of disappearing at the most inopportune times to check in with the rest of the staff at the Mayfair that makes up her mind to stay.
However, when on an alcohol-fueled impulse Carrie makes, Carrie makes a pass at Lucas on a staff night out, it falls flat. Does she run or stay? From then on, Carrie and Lucas spend their free time avoiding each other or making awkward apologies.
Yet the attraction they feel is undeniable. Not until a crisis hits the Hotel and Carrie is forced to work closely with Lucas do they see what has been evident to everyone else. But life is never that straightforward, and Carrie’s dreams of Lucas are dashed as quickly as they bloomed.
This is a romance with several twists, both heart-rending and heartwarming.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone that enjoys a timeless love story.

I can’t begin to tell you how much love I have for this book. The romance made my heart burst. The character development had me hooked and from the moment the characters met I pinned all my hopes on their future together. I was hooked on the range of characters too, each fighting their own struggles but doing it in a realistic way. And the cakes! I’ve never wanted to eat cake more.

I can’t wait to read more of this author’s books and I’ve already downloaded more in giddy excitement. If you want something that incorporates fantastic narrative, brilliantly written scenes and locations and a love for the ages then this book is for you.

This is a gorgeous romance. I was looking for something cosy and heartwarming and this delivered on every level. I loved the interactions between patisserie chef Carrie and hotel manager Lucas, and the growing chemistry between them - made all the more bittersweet by the realities of life pushing in on all sides. This is a book that draws you in like a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate and I read it easily in a couple of sittings. I'm left with a huge craving for macarons and eclairs, and looking forward to the next book by this author! Highly recommend.

A wonderful new novel from Elizabeth Holland! Carrie is a pastry chef, a character originally in Holland's novel 'Merry Christmas, Eve'. (I recommend readers get this book, too, but this novel can easily be read as a stand-alone).

Although Carrie loves her home in Scotland, she longs for something new, so she takes a temporary job at Hotel Mayfair. She soon gets thrown in the deep end with seemingly stern hotel manager Lucas and wedding couples with ridiculous confectionary demands. Another wonderful character is Lily, Carrie's assistant who loves to sneak Carrie's creations.

A Spring Fling at Hotel Mayfair is a wonderfully written romance, with fantastic character development. I usually read historical fiction or fantasy, but whenever I fancy something contemporary, Holland's immersive description and unique characters never disappoints. So why not escape to Hotel Mayfair this summer?

If you ever want to read something you know will be comforting and entertaining with lots of lavish food descriptions then look no further than this series (a spring fling and the other book with some character overlap, a merry Christmas at the castle).
